Sounds like he handled the whole process of saving, raising and rehabilitating her very well. If she's not dependent on him for food and shelter but chooses to visit him because of their bond, together they have the best of both worlds.

I had a similar experience with a fawn. It was lying on the off ramp of the highway I was driving, on my way to work. I stopped, and after I had called animal services thinking it was dead, I walked over to it. When I touched it ( i really shouldn't have) it sprang into life but it was limping wildly and I thought it had a broken leg. I didn't want it to spring out into traffic so I tried my best to hold it down. A city policeman showed up and positioned his car so that vehicles exiting the ramp wouldn't collide with me as I was holding the deer. It took over an hour of me holding the deer and I was getting cramps in my legs. Finally, a nice lady came from Hope for WIldlife where she and her daughter took the fawn where it recuperated and was eventually introduced to a herd that adopted it.

"For most people, this isn’t a decision that they will ever have to make." I think often people just don't look hard enough. People in cities tend not to pay much attention to whatever birds, rodents and other animals around them are doing. 2 years ago a friend and I found a rabbit dying of myxomatosis and got the RSPCA to sort out euthanasia (sad, but better than leaving it to die slowly), and just a few months ago I helped out a young starling by picking it up out of a recycling bin that it had fallen into while trying to learn to fly. Both of these were in York - there's green space in parks and gardens, but it's nowhere near rural. Even in cities there are animals that need help.

Now, this is what I call a REAL man; kind, caring, compassionate, and self-sacrificing. I can't tell you how much respect I have for this complete stranger, but I know one thing for sure: we need LOTS more real men like this gentleman to make the world a better place to live in. Thank you for sharing this story. It has helped restore my faith in men; I'm so tired of petty, selfish, gouging, bloodsuckers and sociopaths who call themselves political leaders and businessmen when they are actually closet pedophiles. I'm only sorry the whole world wasn't full of men like this gentleman here in this story; he's exactly what we need.

Oh my goodness what a lovely post! Gives one hope in our very troubled world thank you that made my day. One of my favorite movies is The Diary Of Anne Frank while watching this it reminded me of a line she spoke in the movie. Taken out of context it was something like this "I truly believe that after all is said and done that people really are good" or words to that affect. This most certainly proves it what a compassionate man and the moose knew it.
