Animal rescuers in Ukraine made a dangerous trip to the frontline near Donetsk, as the sound of shelling is heard in the distance, to rescue pets that were left behind during the war.

@margotconway8605 No, you don't. Russian and Ukrainian don't have direct articles. There is no word for "the" in Ukrainian. From Wikipedia, "US ambassador William Taylor said that using "the Ukraine" implies disregard for Ukrainian sovereignty. The official Ukrainian position is that "the Ukraine" is both grammatically and politically incorrect." In other words, someone who is from Ukraine would never refer to it as such, contrary to how someone native to the USA would call it "the US" or "the USA", because in this case "the" is part of the country name, ie "The United States of America". I bet you walk around saying "Slava Ukraine" even though that's half English and half Ukrainian. It's actually "slava Ukraini" (Слава Україні) because it's in the dative case.

For me, animals and children are the saddest victims of war. They had no control over what's going on and don't understand it, they're totally innocent. It's just grown men who can't behave and are allowing their issues to affect everyone else around them.

Such a weird way of viewing people, but you aren't the only one. Everyone always says "oh the women and children". What about the thousands of innocent guys that get caught up in these conflicts? In this context, when they are able to understand what's going on and why. (The control part doesn't factor in since most people don't have control over war.) Saying that children and animals are the "saddest" to me doesn't mean that other victims aren't sad, just like saying that the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world doesn't mean that other skyscrapers aren't tall. I'm sure there are plenty of civilians of all ages that have been killed or had family killed that are of all ages that have cried out "Why". There’s not many willing or able to just uproot from family and everything.. every simple pleasure we have, every form of communication we know to go over there. This isn’t like making to the uk or Canada where you kinda know half what you need. Let’s take something simple like driving… gas sold in a different currency, every button on the car in at the very least a different language or maybe even in different places, filled up by entirely different amount, and knowledge of how far it would take you in a different form.
