I love how all the bats remain so calm when you're caring for them. They're so sweet. Im so happy there are people around to take care of these beautiful bats. Thank you for caring, and sharing your experiences ❤
@Megabattie9 ай бұрын
They're not all calm; many of them swear and scream at me and are monumentally cranky; I usually ignore this. If a bat is really calm you can bet your boopity that they have significantly rung their bell (rattled their brain). Juveniles and babies, on the other hand, are often quite paralysed by fear of the unknown and the situation in which they've found themselves. They are passive and terrified on top of probably mild (or more) concussion. Hecate crash landed in an atrium and was stuck; she was kidnapped by a furless human and dumped into a laundry basket, then further kidnapped by another furless human who subjected her to further indignities. It didn't help that I thought she was female and she actually had a hidden penis in her fur which I hadn't noticed...

It's easier if you just weigh the cloth first and tare it (make the scales go back to zero); that way you don't have to do maths or subtract either the bowl weight or the cloth from the tally. But I do have the weights on most of the cloths so I can always subtract it from the tally

Cute little boy, hope he is doing okey🦇💚. Sad they do those kind of trap buildings😢
@Megabattie10 ай бұрын
I think it's a fairly standard building design, however not every country which does this kind of building has flying-foxes whose flight is limited by their inability to take off from the ground or a surface because they can't stand up and get a wingstroke in; they also have a wingspan of nearly 1/2 to 3/4 even when they're a juvenile. It's a trap for flying-foxes but only an awkwardness for birds who may find their way in and not be able to find their way out easily, but also who didn't crash land and hit their head during their little mishap.

I like doing this Laszlo; it makes me feel right with myself. Hecate/Hector went on to be released. Welcome to Megabattie, I'm Meg I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care. There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies. You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow. There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions. I put up videos from Mandi and my rescue and care videos, so look to the title or description to figure out the context of the vids. Mandi doesn't rescue but she does a huge amount of rehabbing and has a lot of permanent care bats unable to be released for various reasons. She sends me the most amazing videos of her old retired bats in care; they've all got individual personalities and adorable quirks. Mandi lives 1200 kms away from me so I don't get to visit there often. I raise money for her on the videos. The rescue vids from my point of view are all mine, and if you hear me talking and see my hands in the videos doing bat care, then that's me too.

Nice apt complex.
@Megabattie10 ай бұрын
I think it's excruciatingly awful. Boxy rooms, tacky foyer decor, overpriced and poorly built. It's been open for not quite a year, and it's showing signs of decay already. I can't stand high-rise complexes; I live in a boutique apartment block and that's close enough for me; only 12 apartments and even then it's nearly impossible to get consensus at meetings for things needing doing. My next place will be a house again I think/hope. What I really liked best about my current place was the amount of light; the balcony doors are one entire wall. I liked that my first glimpse was of reddish floorboards and cobalt kitchen cupboards. Of course there was the obligatory neutral paint job, with common property paint the colour of all the other paints all just mixed together into an unappealing beige. The first thing I did when I moved in was to add colour, to get rid of the vertical blinds, and to create a jewelled oasis of light. Also added security fly screens and aircon. And while I was at it I changed pretty much everything so it was how I wanted it and not a generic box.

He’s a cute little guy. Did you decide on `Wizard’ as his name? Somehow, I knew that was the reveal for the name change. He must have been very dehydrated, and too young to be stinky. That skylight is badly designed, and those yellow fake flowers belong in a preschool, not a condominium. The MOP was nice. She even took the time to video the spot where he was found. Yay for another two survivors. Why did Maggie fly to India?
@Megabattie10 ай бұрын
No, not Wizard; you'll get to find his new name in the next vid with him in it; maybe in 2 days. She/he was going to be Hecate because of the street being Heggarty Lane behind the apartment block; I thought witches and wizards but I came up with a better name. Even though I love yellow as a colour, those flowers are fugly as, and don't belong in that style of architecture. It's a light well, not so much a skylight; an atrium, but a third of the glass panels have been left open for ventilation, creating a place for them to crash land; even if they glassed in the entire ceiling, the bats will still get stuck there but above the glass which would be an order more difficult for me to rescue, with poles and nets, or having to get an abseiler in. Maggie likes to travel; I don't. She's doing India for a few weeks; sooner her than me.

@Megabattie10 ай бұрын
Sometimes the batty self removes it (Tinuviel chewed hers off and ate the dressing), sometimes you take it off when it gets too disgusting or before. It depends on the wound. The dressing absorbs moisture so it gets all goopy; it also keeps the healing goop in with all the white cells doing their job breaking down any infection and cleaning up the inflammation. What do you give them for pain?
@Megabattie10 ай бұрын
Hi Shirley; I don't discuss analgesia on the channel, other than it is prescribed by the vet for our bats. Analgesia is a can of worms amongst bat people, mostly the carers whose vets don't believe it's necessary, so they can't access decent analgesia. I am lucky to have enlightened vets, so I don't discuss analgesia specifics on the channel. My channel and videos aren't a "how to" tutorial on batty rescue and care, so discussing analgesia is moot. If you're a rescuer, you can consult your coordinator and your vets for how to manage pain within the framework of your organisation requirements and the attitude of your vets.

everything is a controversial can of worms with wildlife people with nobody agreeing with anyone else and everyone trying to control what other people are doing. I don't advise people not in my group or area or under my aegis, and I only work with people I can trust.
