The crusty things on her legs are called a chestnut :) it's a left over evolutionary bit, now serving the only purpose of being McNasty. The eggs on her legs are likely bot fly eggs (these flies may be from the kill pen or your lot), they can be a health risk to the horse. You can remove them with a Bot Fly Knife; found online or at any equestrian/farm store! Hope you see this and it helps!

I used to ride a horse that age. They can be quite fun and are usually good for learning how to ride. They have a lot of experience with different people and situations which makes them less jittery. The one I rode, however, was super smart and only experienced riders could handle her. If she thought you didn't know what you were doing, she would run off with you and all you could do was hold on. She was awesome and very comfortable to ride. Horses can live into their 30s, by the way.

Hey Uncle Ben, thanks for the video. Thought u should know that those are not flea eggs or lice, they are actually botfly eggs. It's something a lot of horses get and it's not, necessarily bad for the horse at first, but, if the horse licks the eggs and digests them then they hatch inside the horse's stomach and... birth out the butthole. Anyway, hope that helps with the treatment! They are VERY annoying to remove.

My mom and I adopted a rescue horse who was rescued from a kill auction. He has a dent on his face from a kick to the face from his younger years. They said he was starved and is a Pure straight bay Egyptian Arabian named Hal. He was docile in the beginning, but now he is frisky and gets in trouble a lot. He and I have bonded and has gained trust to where if he gets scared he just does dances around us instead of panicking. We also play a game called “are you ready” where we both take off running down or up the hills in the pastures. He has a heart of gold and shows it. Nothing more precious then rescue animals

PS - Those callous-type things on the inside of her legs are called chestnuts. They also have smaller ones called ergot's on the heel end of their fetlocks. They aren't wounds, as long as you keep them from becoming overgrown they aren't anything to worry about.

Even though Arthur is 25 which is old for a horse, you can see she has the will to recover and definitely feels safe there. Keep doing what your doing Uncle Ben :)

Hello Uncle B. As other commenters have said, the bits on the horse’s legs are called chestnuts, and pretty much take care of themselves, but if the get pretty built up and come away easily with your hands, you can pull the excess off every once in a while. Also, the eggs on her legs are bot fly eggs, and you will want to get a bot knife from your local farm supply store and gently scrape them off. If they’re ingested, she can get bots in her stomach.

Hope you're feeling better, Uncle Ben. Everything is looking so awesome. Hope you all are staying warm down there. It's Monday as I type this. My porch is completely frozen over but thankfully no snow. Unfortunately, it's drizzling. So sleet on the streets. Stay safe!

A solution to your mosquito problem: Go get these things called mosquito dunks. Around here we put them in ponds and stuff. They are all natural and have a bacteria that kills the mosquito larva. Also use it for getting rid of fungus gnats. It’s safe for dogs and such so I don’t see why your big and smol beans would be harmed from them. It’ll work(Don’t hate me) love the vids man!!
