Today is the start of our next big trip to save a bunch of forgotten airplanes! Our first stop is out in Minneapolis where we'll be rescuing a Piper 235 that has almost the same damage as our first 235 project so getting this one fixed up should be no problem! However, between the freezing cold and trying to correctly load the airplane onto a trailer, will we actually be able to get this one back to the Rescue Hangar? Find out in this episode!

Loved the Tim Horton's Canuck Coffee Grab ... that is SO typical of being a Canadian .... pity the coffee isnt as good as it was when it was OWNED by Tim ... the company now has destroyed the quality and raised the prices for crud in a cup and other junk Yolk of the day .... as they say happiness is the best medicine ... and of course 3 sunnyside with white toast and bacon and some strawberry jam ... dunk a slice and eat the eggs ... then jam on the toast left over add bacon and eat ... with a side of coffee ... That is breakfast wentworth ... 660 planes in 38 years or avg of 174 planes a year ... or 13 planes a MONTH tbh if youre going to be buying planes from all over ... BUY a C130 ... and get certified on it ... loads of room for planes ... and you can even hang hammocks in them to sleep ... add a kitchenette and composting toilet ... and you have a traveling flying camper ... with hauling capacity

Maybe the rush in the rebuilding process is the main cause of that tragic crash!!!! Maybe the uninspected gas tanks or the right gas cap caused the trouble! Gas tanks should gave been cleaned and the right gas cap should have been changed! It is too early to put it all on Sam with 1800 flight hours! Wait for the end of investigation! Pls RIP Sam! 🌺

Ultimately Sam is the pilot and is responsible for it no matter the outcome. It had water in the fuel and a compromised fuel system. And should not have been flown yet.

@007camera Make no mistake; I am so terribly heartbroken about this. They call it the Swiss Cheese effect. You only need one set of the holes to line up for an accident to happen. There will be a lot of self-blame and a lot of 'what if's', but we all have to face facts that ultimately Sam was in the left seat and made a judgement call that the plan was safe to fly, after that we will have to wait for the finale report for the most likely Probable Cause. Please R.I.P. Sam :(

@christophergagliano2051 3 ай бұрын
This is going to get interesting, hopefully the NTSB report will draw a clear picture of what went wrong. It could be that the annual inspection was incomplete to include either missing the fact that the fuel cap gasket was missing and or neither of the propeller feathering systems were properly checked. But it needs to be clear that failure of the engine alone did not cause the crash. By design this aircraft should have been able to climb @200 fpm if the failed engine's propeller was properly feathered.
@fumo7887
@fumo7887 3 ай бұрын
@@christophergagliano2051Unfortunately it’s on the inspection checklist, so it was clearly initialed even though it wasn’t present. There are usually multiple chained events that lead to things. And we’re already seeing some of it in the preliminary report. Gasket wasn’t installed, it should have been checked as a part of the annual, and the tanks weren’t sumped during preflight. It’s all devastatingly unfortunate, but it shows that checklists exist for a reason. In this case, the combination of the annual checklist and the preflight checklist led to a “Swiss cheese” alignment.

I’ve been watching you since you first tried to start the 401. This is my first comment. I just lost my wife of 49 years, 4 days before Christmas, and the pain is still raw. We watched your videos faithfully, together, and now I watch them alone. I’m in terrible pain because she meant so much to me. Isn’t it the same with Sam? If we walk into the pain, as you and your crew have, and I have, the pain eventually dissipates and we are left with fond memories. Please keep working on the 401, please take value from the pain, and please keep broadcasting. I’m a big fan and I believe in you. It’s apparent that Sam did as well.

When will you address the situation and explain to the 700,000 subscribers what occurred during the accident? It's time to fully disclose the circumstances surrounding how Sam tragically lost his life, as well as the significance of the Aviation Dirty Dozen. Joe is already aware of these details; however, Jason, it's unclear if you've recently become informed. There's a substantial difference between an automotive mechanic and an FAA-certified Airframe and Powerplant mechanic. Unlike with cars, you can't simply pull over while flying and wait for AAA to tow you to safety.

No, the 401 awaits parts, then inspections. Paperwork must be submitted and completed. It is a step by step process and parts are sometimes hard to get. Repairs are time consuming. Rushing through repairs and hastily returning planes to service is risky at best. You discovered the defective gas cap, promised its replacement but failed to do so. It seems exhaustive flight testing were not conducted, but even still a meticulous unrushed preflight most likely would have prevented Sam's death. Get thereitis, a tight sechule and expectations nothing can go wrong almost guarantees something will go wrong. Life & flying is a learning experience, ....slow down

But I expected Jason to be transparent about what happened but he said nothing nor has he reacted to ANY comments about what happened. I was at least expecting Jason to say that he can't comment on what happened due to the ongoing NTSB investigation. I think the videos that Juan Brown (Blancolirio Channel) did on the crash were interesting but I bet Jason didn't think so. Is the 401 project going to continue? Are they still going to try and quickly flip old aircraft to raise money for the 401? Does Jason and crew have to wait until the final NTSB report is in to see if they can continue on the 401 and flip old aircraft? Does Jason have to get an A&P? I guess we will find out at some point.

I suppose there is an investigation and you can't talk about it, maybe talking about that won't change anything. Moving on is fine, now finishing the 401 has become mandatory, and Sam is following them daily. These new projects can help, the Rockwell had a ventilation hose installed incorrectly and fell into a golf, and the pilot came out completely unharmed. The Piper Cherokee was on a training flight the instructor cut the engine to simulate a failure, and..., it went wrong. The crew members were also unharmed. I hope you join forces and keep going, see you next Saturday!

On top of that, this episode was terribly tone-deaf. I would have expected something darker. Especially when the missing gasket was probably partially their collective fault, due to a bad attitude.

It's unfortunate that they appear to have been putting "the show" before safety. Clearly in over their heads, yet they keep taking on more??? Tells you it's less about the planes and more about the views.

Those that have never made a mistake, broken a road rule or can see into the future, please take a bow. Was it the previous owner that needed a gasket or someone from where the plane sat for 2 years? That plane made the flight back to base without any problems. Should the refueller when they first flew have mentioned that there was no gasket or even the last refueller? Did the lack of the gasket cause the water/fuel mix or was there water in the refuelling truck? Make no mistake; I am so terribly heartbroken about this.

@@seppopakonen1269The episode was recorded before the accident. Pay attention. They made this clear with the opening to the last three episodes… and it seems they’ve done all they can to pay tribute and make those openings respectful.

@@seppopakonen1269perhaps so… it had just had its annual but by CERTIFIED mechanics. If you don’t like the pressures of filming and are worried - then don’t sign it off. Missing the “missing” gasket is not a good thing by whoever did the annual but like a a UK MOT - the inspection is only as good as the day it is done hence in our flying world me MUST follow our pre flight checks. We see stuff for YT world - not everything that actually gets done

Hey guys! Been following the 401 for some time and was awesome to meet you guys at Oshkosh. Hearing now that Sam died in an accident weighs even harder. I was talking with him about my checkride back in December because we were talking at Oshkosh. I'm saddened to hear that he passed but know that he will always be with you in spirit. Fly High Sam, you will be missed. For you guys, Jason and the crew, keep moving forward and I love that you guys shared scripture last video. The Lord is watching over you guys and I will be praying for you and Sam's family

Jason, man I just feel yalls sadness and I hope yall know most of us are with yall. I've read a lot of responses about blame and what yall should or shouldn't have done. Comments about your business model of fixing others to fund whats next. People really think money grows on trees, and you dont have to work hard for things. I hope you and your team dont take these things to heart. Stay positive, keep moving forward. Its all you really can do!

Winters and summers both have their brutal periods here in Minnesota. We can get to 100ºF with 90% humidity on some days. THAT is when the A/C turns from luxury to necessity. Although all the swimming holes and public pools help, too. If I'd have known you were going to be in the area, I would have recommended some places for you, like Buca di Beppo in downtown Minneapolis - great Italian-American menu, the chicken marsala is especially good, and the cannolis are worth fighting over. There's Famous Dave's if you want decent barbecue, with the All-American Feast being the best bang for your buck. And if you want a slice of home, there's Cecil's deli in St. Paul, where all the sandwiches are good, and you don't want to skip the blintzes.

I found your channel thanks to the first video on the 401. The best way to keep Sam's memory alive is to make sure the Phoenix is fully restored and returns to flying angel flight missions as he once did with it. Sam will be forever missed in the RR community and hopefully other pilots and aspiring pilots can learn from this tragic accident to prevent it in the future.

I have been watching since the beginning and I have been patiently waiting to watch Sam fly "his" plane again. Heart breaking to know this isn't going to happen now but he was such a great part of your team. As far as the direction you guy should go there is only one answer... up! This old girl needs to get back in the air where she belongs and there she will reunite with Sam.

Loss is never easy, and the pain never totally goes away, and for a time you are numb and the best way to honor them is to put one foot in front of the other and carry on. My wife's best friend of many years shared a house with us and our children. Every morning we would jockey for position to use the bathroom and laugh and say goodbye. One morning I was in a hurry and didn't say goodbye, she was killed instantly in a car accident less than an hour later on her way to work. The hardest part was telling the kids, but I like to think she is still watching over us.

The Rebuild Rescue crew were within 10 minutes of where I live in Minnesota, it was fun to see all the familiar sights. Though I am confused about the cold and snow. We haven't had snow on the ground in Minneapolis in Jan/Feb for more than a week at a time and the temps have been 20 - 40 F. There was like two days in mid January where it would have been -11 windchill, so the crew managed to visit Minnesota at the absolute perfect time! MSP is considered in the top 5 of airports in the US. This video was likely filmed before the accident. Tough to watch and my heart goes out to all of you.

One of the things which You guys have only mentioned a few times, because most of your videos are rebuild videos, but like Jimmy has said frequently, the most dangerous time to fly a plane, is just after it has had some major repair work done. Having seen the NTSB review of the incident, Sam did make a mistake. That was to schedule his return flight as a priority, over taking the time to do a proper pre-flight walk-around. Having been in the US Navy, I know that many Policies and Procedures are written in blood. Take your time to do inspections properly when they are required. Take your time and do the repairs in Accordance with the manual.
