After watching your last episode, I saw the news about the closure of the park and wondered what it was going to do to your employment window there. But although this video turned out not to be about that, these were great stories. I've always known that you are a fantastic dude, so your heroism and character don't surprise me one bit.

Spent some time growing up in a tourist area. Situations like these happen more than most would think. A weird one was a teenage girl had her toe bit off by a Musky while dangling her feet in the water while her father drove the pontoon boat.

We recently purchased a Jackery Explorer 2000 and extra battery with 2 solar panels. It took 2 days to charge both. It took only 1.2 hours running the A/C to drain the batteries.

Nice job on the rescue's. Long term boater here with several of rescues. I'm 110% sure the grandmother & grandson were elated to see you and the ride quality had very litle to do with just you coming to the rescue. Quite often the distressed swimmer / capsized canoe, will panic when they see you and end up trying to board your small boat and capsize you.
@paulg5493 ай бұрын
Yeah I'd be up for more strange stories. This one was interesting.
@johnnylightning14913 ай бұрын
Dave, a couple of things. First if you can get people to come over the bow or the stern of the boat it greatly reduces the risk of capsizing, but that's not always an option. It works best on a jon boat. As far as getting the water out of the canoe, if you turn it over in the lake and then one person picks it up on each end you leave all of the water in the lake and only have to lift the weight of the canoe. All that said, you saved them so I've gotta say "good job". Keep the good stuff coming.

Just a thought…put a few PFD’s in the new rescue boat’s. Also a rope to throw them and/or tow the boat back. This will happen again 😂. Trust me. Glad it worked out for everyone.

The US coast guard require a life jacket be available for every person on a boat! Why didn’t the canoers not have them?
@stevemcbride26853 ай бұрын
I don’t think they’re required on private property, but if you can’t swim why would you not have one available, or wearing one. I go out on the boat quite often on the Colorado river here in Arizona. I can swim like a fish, but I still wear a life jacket because if something happens medically or I fall overboard and get injured no matter how good of swimmer you are, you’re not gonna be able to.
@xmavrick3 ай бұрын
@@stevemcbride2685 If you read the USCG regulations they make no exception for private owner or their property! I believe the requirements are there to save lives, but you have to wonder why someone who could not swim would go out in a canoe without a PFD. They got luck this time but a lot of people don’t end up this lucky.

Because the coast guard was not there.

As a after action suggestion, It maybe a good idea to have extra life jackets available to give to people who have found themselves out of their boat with less than full size life jackets. The pone-tune boat will have several life Jackets on board. In strong winds it maybe safer to tow disabled boats with the wind even if it puts you farther away from your ultimate destination. Once you get to shore you can more easily follow the shoreline back to the dock. Talk to you local fire rescue for classes and ideas.

I'm on a small lake in Montana. There is a boat launch with a small dock and it has a sign: "no jumping off the dock." So yes, someone jumped off the dock, two years ago, and ended up with a compound fracture. Early in the season, this year, we had a guy fall off his roof camper and he ended up with a leg fracture that required surgery and pins. The nearest hospital is on a two-lane highway and it's 50 miles, one way, to that hospital. Oh great so one of them didn't know how to swim and neither had PFDs. Typical.

@kimlittleton49432 ай бұрын
Lordy why would anyone be out there without a life jacket???? We kayak a lot.....my boyfriend is a previous Navy rescue swimmer.....we never go without our life jackets (even if we are in 2 foot of water). Wow....good job getting them back into land. But people take too many risks, as well as risking your safety as well.

Why didn’t you get the old lady in your fishing boat? Her safety in the most important! The younger guy can swim so not as priority. then the canoe sits higher and you and the younger guy, can bale the water out of the canoe and the drag it back to the dock.
