Dude you have thoroughly used that trailer beyond what I thought it was capable of. I think Springdale should sponsor you a new trailer. I hope your adventures are going well. Sweetie sure is a sweetie

Honestly I didn't think this trailer would hold up as well as it has either! I've taken it up and down mountains, way out into baren deserts, and as far down any forest road I possibly could. She's taken everything I've thrown at her and is practically begging me to push the envelope even further. I love this trailer.

I would recommend staying with the heavy duty door hinges. We put 4 of them on our bed and it’s held up great 👍. The problem with piano hinges is that the screw holes are too close to the edge and can pull through the wood especially if you have a strong struts to hold up the mattress.
@FateUnbound6 күн бұрын
Thank you for this comment, I had the exact same concern with piano hinges also. The door hinges I chose have the screw holes far into the wood.

David, been watching since you two started in PA near Kinzua. Watched with my husband until he passed. He called you all, "The Kids". He'd say, "How are those kids in the Springdale doing?" Appreciate your videos.

That's so cool! Wow you really have been with us since the beginning! And that's so sweet about your husband, I'm sorry he's no longer with you.

Thanks! I'm so surprised I've been able to get this Springdale to last so long, especially considering all the off roading I've done with it. Kudos to Keystone

As for the bed platform, higher end trailer use long heavy "piano" hinges the width of the platform instead of just two small 3" hinges. Also, the bed platforms really need the outer skins to be glued and not just stapled to the framing for long term durability. We also always add an inner skin of 5mm revolutionply from Lowes so if things slide they won't be pushing on the outer skin that isn't typically attached very well.

Reframe and use a piano hinge that goes all the way across keeps it from bending and pinching as it stabilizes the lid from twisting.

We built our own compost toilet using a kit that came with a fan and urine diverter. Its essentially a bucket we put a garbage bag in with cedar shavings. We have to dump it 1 or 2 times a week with 2 of us full time. Best decision ever for boondocking.

David, if you can use bolts instead of screws on the hinges that may be a good idea, especially you can use some fender washers on the other side. Keep the good stuff coming and say hey to Roe.

I was wondering how the truck is holding up as it ages David? Being a long time subscriber, I've seen a few issues you've had over the years, but I haven't seen too much recently, so you must be doing a great job at maintaining it! I remember you and your dad working on it as well some time ago, so it's good to see you still working it! Thanks for the video, we have two of the fans in our Class A DP and the one in the kitchen is used daily, helping to keep the fresh air moving!

David, as always enjoyed the video. Could not agree more about the nature's head composting toilet. Our friends have one and it's an absolute nightmare to clean. We love our C- head. Unfortunately the company went out of Business so can't find them anymore. It's funny you mention the no-seums screen because we've had installed them in ours based on your video many many years ago and had the exact same experience. They tear super easy with cats and could never keep them clean. We actually just replaced all of ours including the one that we did on the door with regular screen and it's much much better. Hope all is well with you and the entire family. Safe travels. Wander on Kyle and Michelle

Hey guys! I just removed the spindle from my Nature's Head from some comments on this video recommending I do so. Sometimes the obvious answer is hidden right in front of you 🤦 And sorry to lead you guys in the wrong direction with the noseeum screens. I'm looking forward to replacing mine too! Safe and happy travels you two, I always love seeing your comments!

David, your composting toilet why not just remove the spindle. Then use something like JB Weld to close up the holes. Based on your tinkering skills I’m sure you could engineer a solution. Just remove it so you don’t have to buy a new one.
@FateUnbound6 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for this comment. Sometimes the obvious answer is hiding right in front of you. I just removed the spindle and am in the process of cleaning it all out. I'll plug up the holes and put a bag inside just like what I've always wanted out of a composting toilet 👍

To clean your screens, use a source of blowing air, such as a tie inflator or canned air used on a computer. Then, reverse the blow to clean the screens. I do it with filters, and I think it would work as well.

We did the same thing in our fifth wheel; after upgrading to a heavier mattress, we upgraded the bed lift struts but never thought about the hinges. We weren't near any place convenient when the hinge broke (of course lol). We didn't consider a piano hinge but if it breaks again, that's what we'll do. As always, great video!
@Joe-fj9kw5bg1v8 күн бұрын
My keystone came with those gas charged struts so my hinge is already stronger I put a memory foam mattress on it and it is a lot heaver than an rv mattress it was like laying on a board so I also reinforced by frame to support the struts pushing on them with the old struts were 40 pound I put 60 pounds and it pulled the staples out of the frame so I reinforced the frame

remove the agitator, place carriage bolts in the holes (smooth side Inside), and use thick trash bags. dump in a bit of core after each use. i use a small steel trash can and small pet bedding/wood "dust" for mine. with bio degradable Thick trash bags works well. but i also double up incase of leaks and change before Necessary.
@FateUnbound6 күн бұрын
You know what, I think I'm going to do this exactly! Thank you for this comment!

@ be sure to tell us about it and a review after some use 😉
@m.gardner61735 күн бұрын
@ oh, I did find bio degradable bags Are less tolerant. So you might need to use normal plastic trash bags. (But only if you want to have the extra security or have issues with the bio ones. I found them only Sometimes annoying)
