One of our family cars was an olive green 4dr 1970 Fury III with a 318. One of the coolest things it had from a 12yo perspective was the 'light package' which included the hood mounted turn signals, the mini light that lit up the key starter on the steering column, and of course, engine,trunk AND glove box light. The rear window defogger was cool as it was just a fan that moved air from the seat shelf, and the off set trunk key lock that 'made it easier to unlock the trunk from the side of your parked car" Yeah,,,, they had me. Hours spent laying on my back staring at the torsion bar suspension wondering why it didnt slip and lose strength. Stupid rear end leaf springs were soft as hell so the car would droop when loaded and under "acceleration' from what the 318 would give. That gave way to many falling asleep trips from the Grandparents home, and waking up in the driveway after what seemed like a 15 minute 200 mile long trip. Showing my age here. Sorry for the ramble.

I had a 1970 fury 3 from 1976 to 1980. It ended up with about 300 thousand miles on it with the most serious thing that happened to it was the teeth on the flywheel for about 3 inches got shaved badly. Lost reverse. I'm 72 this month.

I have basically the same car, 1970 Chrysler 300 Convertible. Great car, comfy, pretty quick 440, 375 hp) and handles suprisingly well. Fix it up, I think you'll love it.

I LOVE it. Please keep this one as original as possible. They're only that way once, and this one is so very complete. I grew up around Mom and Dad's 1970 Fury Suburban with a 318, so I know how they can scoot. I have belonged to a 1970 Fury III convertible in FF4 Lime Green Metallic with a 383 for over 25 years.

My convertible's replacement transmission has the part-throttle kickdown that the original didn't have, and it was a major improvement in drivability.

From looking at the tag by the radiator, it seems to have had a repaint. That's normal because 1970 EB3 Ice Blue Met. from the factory generally turned to garbage by 1977. Repaints were common on EB3 cars.

Sorry to disappoint, but there's ZERO WAY we're keeping this lazy pig stock. It is an absolute dog and that is in no way acceptable for us. The 318/904 with be thoroughly destroyed (we're thinking A LOT OF NITROUS) not before we build a warmed over 440 and a stronger automatic. Oh, she'll LOOK pretty original (interior, paint, metalwork, etc.) but she'll have some added oomph.

@@moparconnection I saw on FB how the 318 was running on 5/8. Classic Mopar = running badly longer than other engines run at all. I hope that it's less lazy now after the valve job. Since I'm new to the party, I'll have to poke around your web site to see if you've covered adding oomph in a 318 or other LA. Am I correct in thinking that Marsha has a 2.76 rear? What's your plan for brakes?

She's running a lot stronger but still can't chirp the tire (only one). And yes, I believe it's a 2.76. Currently, the manual drums work INCREDIBLY well (almost better than the Baer discs we put on the Charger). So until she starts making a lot more power, I'll keep the current setup.

I would build a 383 for it. Nothing crazy. That’s a big car for a small block to pull around, especially with 5 people in it. Those C bodies are fantastic to cruise around in 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Job well done. Narration was excellant. Whenever I try to start up engines that have been sitting, I fill the fuel bowl of the carburetor with gas. Maybe one shot of starting fluid spray and fires right up. It's much easier on the starter.

Yeah filling the float bowl on the carb through the bowl vent is the best thing to do that way it will run longer then just a short second with the spray and it will give the fuel pump a chance to pump fuel into the carb. That's if the fuel pump is good but cars sitting the fuel pump is usually garbage even if it works it don't pump the fuel like a good one would

I sell Auto/Truck parts for one of the top old-school parts companies. All the 70's era Cars, Trucks, Vans, RVs, and Motorcycles are like Gold being 50 years old or close. LOL, I have suggestions. Clean it up, if it still has points go to HEI, look for a 94-95 518A from a Ram and bolt in overdrive and at some point change the gears from the likely gearing that is likely under 3.0. There is a guy in Lebanon that parts out those model Rams, I got my 518A from him, find him on CraigsList. Then just clean it up and cruise. Old car looks really straight and while those cars didn't corner like a sports car they sure did ride good, cars don't float like that on the highway any more. Everything feels European. I also see it is a factory A/C, that also is a bonus. Great score, Kevin.

Oh my gosh, yes! Spraying brake cleaner down an old engine is MURDER. Just a little pre-mix will help from killing your rings.

I would of put a heater under that sump to heat that old oil up before you drained it . Start it on 2 stroke it help lubricant on start up . 👍🏻🇦🇺💯⛽️.

We had a 1971 sport fury 3/ 2 door hardtop that had a 383 engine .Ours had front seats that seemed like they had taller headrests . Ours had fender skirts too. I regret selling it to buy a VW Rabbit diesel . I had an auto paper route that was 25 miles long and the gas was pricey and cutting in to my profits. The last time I saw the car someone had removed the trunk lid and made it to a poor man`s pic up truck to carry around gardening tools and even small trees in the massive trunk space.

You spraying just a little spray in the carb is not going to turn the engine over much you need to use gasoline and fill the float bowl on the carb with gas that way it will run longer then 2 seconds and help not burn up the starter

@@moparconnection Rare to get an unmolested two door anything. If you're keeping it, I would go small block stroker with low torque in mind or later magnum efi AC and 4 speed auto swap for great cruising with friends or gear to nationals.

🇺🇸👍 keep in stock trim other then the 3 speed 727 auto replace with a ( I believe it’s 80-85 ) 4 speed automatic with overdrive. All is neede is install a toggle switch for turning the overdrive on or off. Now you can get some much better MPG. You have AC a better insulated top would be nice , and you have a great family car that will not cost you and and arm and leg to operate. 👍🥩🥔🌽🍪🍪🥛💤

If you are going to buy old cars then fix them properly or you are just another flipper head. They need to be seen on the road so young ones can see how things were and lets admit it, no matter the brand or style driving one you get thumbs up for kids to older folks.

The Fury is getting put back on the road. We've already finished the brakes, pulled out the shag house carpet and got the electric top working. (All of that in Episode 2) And if I choose to sell it, it'll be listed first in the C-body community so a diehard C-body guy will own it. I'm NO flipper.

Turned out to be the last ever full-sized Plymouth "soft-top". Poor restructuring by Mopar bosses meant no more full-sized Plymouths would be turned out after 1981.

What are you talking about?! The battery was fresh, pulled out of my '69 Charger. We used starting fluid and later pre-mix instead of brake clean like so many hacks on KZbin, so we didn't hurt the rings or glaze the cylinders. And we ran fresh rubber hose from the factory fuel pump (which didn't work, and later replaced with a new one) into a clean 5gal. tank. We did everything PERFECT.

No, I got it running with the new fuel pump (and that filter was brand new) just after the sun went down. It wasn’t that late - I still have neighbors. And obviously I wasn’t going to leave the Charger’s battery in it, would I? It would get its own battery. So yeah it got a new one. And no, trying to drag race a convertible C-body is not where we’re going with this one. See the updates on this build. It’s in paint currently.
