I''m a feral colony caretaker here in South Africa. I have been watching your channel a while and when I discovered some cats in the mall where I work, I knew I would take care of them and take responsibility for them. I've learned a lot from your channel and have harassed people endlessly and eventually got help sterilising 15 cats so far. Two kittens were young enough to be fostered and adopted. So many people don't care about cats and some even have silly superstitions regarding cats and witchcraft, but honestly, taking care of these cats has made my life better and I love them so much. I have never had a cat but I love these cats like they are my own. I will keep fighting for them and for their sterilisation, which is so important. Thank you so much for what you do - I know it's hard and it takes a toll, especially because people can be so heartless. You are an inspiration to me.

I was able to save a cat from a negligent owner. The cat was a 7 yr old male that is declawed and the owner would leave him outside even in cold and rainy weather. We would open our doors for him. Unfortunately, even after telling the owner the cat kept coming so we figured he was still left outside and unable to defend himself. We called a cat rescue org and they took him away to a new responsible owner who keeps him inside. Now he is enjoying a warm house. The owner called us a week later asking if we found him. We told the owner… we don’t know. Actually, that cat was such a loving cat. Very friendly and playful unfortunately we are allergic.

I know neutering is the most important thing, the second most important has to be getting your cat chipped and keeping the information up to date. The first cat probably had someone missing her. We have several charities in the U.K. that pay for or towards neutering if anyone can't afford it. Please don’t take advantage of this if you can afford it, that money could go to helping others. As always a brilliant video, your narration is second to none.

You’re coming at this from a British perspective. Most cats in the US don’t go outside, especially not in cities. It’s not only highly likely that she was abandoned, but it’s surprising that you’d imply that FC wouldn’t have done their research first and know from their community links that this cat doesn’t belong to anyone 🤷🏼♀️
@markharrisllb2 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethhutchin788 Wow, how to get so much wrong in one statement. Our cats are house cats and they chipped 'just in case' they get out as they are far more likely to get lost than cats that have always gone out. The first cat was highly socialised, it has obviously had a lot of human interaction which makes me wonder if it was abandoned or it’s lost. Also chipping cats as kittens allows the cruel people who abandon cats to be traced. Finally, if I’m assuming the cat wasn’t chipped how on Earth is that implying no research was done? Surely it implies the exact opposite, they need some research just to find that out. I’m not coming from it from any other perspective than that of a responsible cat owner. You are incredibly rude and badly informed, don’t expect any more replies.
@elisabubbles2 жыл бұрын
Bless, because you can’t actually read a comment, you’ve gone on the offensive. There, there. I made no commentary on the practice of microchipping, which I think is a good idea; my 2 cats are chipped. So your mid-comment rant really makes no sense, anyhoo. My point remains that you have made an assumption that FC irresponsibly lifted an owned cat from the street. As to not replying to me again? I’m crushed. SHAKEN TO THE CORE 🤣
@damicamarshall52552 жыл бұрын
@@elisabubbles I don’t think they implied that at all. I think they’re just making a general statement that chopping cats is important. Also, you originally said that cats in the us don’t go outside which is just wrong. They can get outside just as easily as cats everywhere else. Whether or not it’s the owners fault varies, but there’s no way of knowing for sure whether a car was abandoned or just lost.

When I lived in Denver, I found an organization that spayed/neutered cats for free. I took almost all stray cats from my neighborhood to them and they’re wonderful. The cats also got vaccinated. Every time I was there, there were lines of people. People would spay/neuter their pets if they could afford it.

Not even exaggerated when he says the saved one are the truely lucky ones. It breaks my heart knowing all the ones that can't be helped bc of diseases, accidents, and just unbearable conditions that shouldn't even be lived in. They [cats] are only doing the best they can in the circumstances they are born into ,abandoned, or lost outside. It's up to us to be their voices and advocates!! Even being able to utilize TNR in one colony is making a bit of a difference. It's crazy to think of the math and numbers of just one liter being born. Each female can start to have a liter as young as six months so in general, a cat can have up to four litters of kittens per year, with an average of four kittens per litter, although litter size can range from one to twelve kittens. Just using the average number, means that unchecked, a cat can have 15- 20 kittens per year. Such an eye opener!
@SKinSKorea2 жыл бұрын
It’s not just New York!! I TNR in Cheongju and Jochiwon. Most municipalities in Korea have some government funded TNR, but at my local colony- I’m a one woman show! The Korean cat moms feed the cats, but I’m the only one providing medical, making winter shelters (the colony is in a local community center /119 - Korea’s 911- and the emergency services people let me place winter shelters near their buildings where people wouldn’t approach them.). When I moved here, I vet-shopped. I get a very slight discount and also don’t pay for pre surgery blood tests etc. I give all my TNRs a round of vaccines. I pay about $110 for a make and $250 for a female. As a teacher, it’s a stretch and I can only afford about one a month. I am one cat over my personal limit (I have three 9 year olds- a bonded pair who were rehomed to me when their human left Korea, and the 3rd cat I didn’t know I wanted- an abandoned guy I’d feed by a local convenience store. A cold winter’s day 2017 I was on my bike and he was sick and chased me pleading. The next day I went back with a carrier s d he jumped in. Needless to say J now have 3 cats- all black and white Korean shorthairs! Valjean, my former street kitty has had dental extractions and just had his 4 fangs, but he’s my sweetheart. Suzy and Woosi don’t appreciate the life I provide as much, as they have never lived outdoors! Feral cats are a world wide problem, and each of us can be part of the solution.

The program "Spay and neuter " is the better solution 😸😸😸 No more kittens dying of hunger, cold, disease, or killed in accidents... But also those who adopt a young cat, dog or other pet must be aware of the responsibility of adopt a living being who deserves respect, affection and care. At home in Belgium (Europe) we have also set up this program for a few years. It takes time, there is progress, it's encouraging. But how long will it take to change mentalities ? Too many people, all over the world are not respectful of animal life, alas ! Let's continue to be vigilant, we cannot afford to give up: so many lives need all humans of good will. I wish you much courage, victories and happiness in your courageous action. Friendships from Belgium!

She an older cat (~10 at the time) who was clearly dumped on the street during early pandemic (April/May) and not able to fend for herself or figure out where to get food. Thankfully her friendly nature got the attention of some good samaritans who dropped her off at the shelter I got her from. My heart is massive for adopting cats with those kinds of back stories... The problem is not only to spay and neuter feral cats, the problem is people abandoning their cats. In the past 12 to 14 years we have seen an endless amount of cats hiding under cars, so frightened they would not even eat the food placed near them. A couple of my neighbors and me have taken in an abandoned cat. We feed the feral cats and my neighbor purchased a heated house where a couple of feral cats lived for years. Educating people about dumping their cats and the cruelty of their abandonment is part of the answer. My sweet girl would have never survived in the streets. She had a microchip so I found out the person who adopted her (and lived quite a distance from me) had moved and her phone and email were disconnected. So ads from ASPCA and Animal Control educating people about the cruelty of abandonment and the suffering their cats will endure may help save the lives of these cats.

I live in a rural area. Both the spca and local rescue provide low cost spay and neuter but some people are resistant. They allow cats to breed in order to ensure there is a supply of mousers... or they don’t want to invest the dollars because hey they are just cats. It’s hard to address these attitudes.
@kiemgallagher96702 жыл бұрын
Two of our local rescue organizations collaborate at times and they have this scheme where you can "sponsor" a kitten/cat without committing to foster/adopt it. We were terrible fosters because we couldn't give them up... we ended up with 4 cats. And because we have 4 cats we cannot adopt anymore but we sponsored 2 kittens and an elderly cat last year and 1 adult cat so far this year, we plan on keep sponsoring too! There are two types of sponsorships, the basic one covers basic expenses like formula/quality food and deworming plus vaccinations and the premium one covers all basic expenses plus spay/neuter. As a sponsor you get to witness your sponsored kitten's/cat's journey from rescue to adoption (via photos/videos and written updates from rescue/foster). We wish we could afford to sponsor more kittens/cats but I share this idea because it really does help... it frees up the rescue org's resources for other things like medical treatments and surgeries for kittens/cats that are found in bad shape and also it helps them pay for maintenance and spay/neuter programs for colony cats.

Getting the message out that cats who've been family members DO NOT naturally know how to survive on their own and that if circumstances force people to give up pets there are a number of much better options than dumping them on the street.

Quote of the year....."The warmth of a cold wet nose" So glad you're getting the media attention to further bring awareness to the cat overpopulation and the need for affordable spay & neuter. You are truly an amazing person! Thank you.

After two years of being closed our county shelter has finally been able to restart their free spay/neuter program. I am thrilled for them and for the community cats in my county. I’m also thankful to KZbinrs sharing information about TNR because it’s taken off like wildfire. TNR programs are popping up everywhere in my region.

Thank you for the hard work, I've been trying my best up here in Buffalo to help the homeless, feral and lost kitties in my neighborhood. I know truly how heart-wrenching it is. Hope you get my donation I made today.
