Thank you for continuing to discuss this shady IP lawsuit stuff! It’s so hard explain to people who don’t know about them, and you do a wonderful job! One of these suits costs me thousands of dollars and incredible stress last year. To even find a lawyer who understood the lawsuit was a daunting task. They can seize your bank account, and it was all over a toy AMAZON was selling that I received in a returned items lot. Apparently these companies who engage in these suits pick on the little guys like us instead of handling the problem. My lawyer said that he would guess the companies would prefer NOT to stop the actual problem so they can keep mass suing people like us. There was nearly 200 sellers in my case. Multiply that by what I paid to drop the suit and these companies are making millions by extorting resellers.

I was sued about 2 years ago by a trademark troll company that own trademarks for a certain character whose likeness is in the public domain for selling one lighter I bought at a thrift store and sold for $35 dollars not even knowing a trademark existed for the lighter name. I was served via an email I don’t check regularly because it was only used for eBay. I received a default judgment and didn’t even realize I had been sued and found liable until eBay suspended my account, but by the time that happened, the time to appeal had lapsed, so I was on the hook for a $100K default judgment with absolutely zero recourse. The lawsuit came out of the US District Court of Northern Illinois and was part of a Schedule A lawsuit. Currently I haven’t heard anything from the law firm or company in terms of collections, but I told myself if they ever tried to collect, I was going to come after the judge and lawyers and make an example out of them for the racket they are running because I don’t have the money to fight the courts. I am certain the judges in that court are being paid kickbacks for issuing these judgements.

I hope not but I listen to my intuition and my records. Very interesting what is to come. All we can do is just keep pushing forward.

Kind of funny that people think reselling is over or that the good times were 3 or 4 years ago. For me the good times were the early 2000s. However that's mostly because I had very little responsibility & it was just me and my friends. We are just emerging from a bubble in online selling and those whose businesses were not fundamentally sound will fail. I believe those are the ones we are hearing the most from when it comes to dark Days ahead for reselling.

Anyone who unsubs is just being unreasonable... nothing incendiary about that at all. I also don't think we'll see mass tariffs - I think it'll be more targeted for negotiating leverage. Yep. We saw the inflation coming for sure! Put money into some home repairs right away instead of waiting and made a down payment on a trip we wanted to take a couple of years out. But I KNEW that if we didn’t lock the price in, we wouldn’t have been able to take it for several more years. You are right. When the government was spending crazy money, inflation had to follow. Anyway, another reason to keep debt to a minimum if not zero. And as always, like American Arbitrage would say, we need to be able to adapt to whatever comes. We’ll be ok.

@@commonwealthflipper For far too long the "Tow the party line" took place and the citizens got hoodwinked. It took on new orders of magnitude around the Reagan times with the strong radio and TV pundits. GOP pundits convinced rural America that their wealth was being stripped and given to inner city social program mechanisms and they were not necessarily wrong and that created a unity within the GOP that truly made it "The Grand Old Party" like a country club. You were either a member as a legislator or candidate or you were some form of external fungus. The Dem's were usurped by The Progressives which as you are aware Kevin has rose and fell several times in US History. The "New Progressives" if you will use the term "Progressive" hoodwinking folks into thinking, "Oh yeah! I'm all for progress." The reality is its progression of governance over the masses, over being the keyword. THus social programs and the opposition deeming them socialists. The very reason Dem administrations holding the reigns of government costs so dang much is its all factions and those factions want their bread and butter to bring home to constituents... So pork gets added in to essentially buy votes for legislative passage. Meanwhile over time both sides have sequestered huge portions of the voting public the Dem's by social programs, the GOP via wealthy and the rural folks who literally have no other place to turn. Now we've elections won or lost by what amounts to a minority slice of states and counties in the nation. The truly odd thing about to me are the 50 year old roots of civil rights. When families could have two working parents and make real gains. Credit abounded and was used and could be paid but the GOP and much academia saw it as unsustainable. That's IMHO what set off the fireworks of control. The GOP came with Trickle Down Economics which would NEVER have been bought by American's if it were called "Trickle Down Lifestyles" which is what it is. The Dem's see control as social programs controlling the bees via deeper government interventions. Both really the same goals but very differing ideas of how to get there. There is just so much wrong. I lobbied crazy like on Social Media in 2020 to get legislators to speak about campaign finance issues. Online I can gift money to candidates or incumbents where you live Kevin. I am not a constituent of theirs yet I and a thousand like me can donate. If you look at some of these folks districts there is simply NO WAY they could raise the money they raise pounding the pavement nor even online from their potential constituents. So those politicians or candidates seek to nationalize their presence and persona because that brings home the bacon from citizens all over the country. THIS IS SO VERY VERY VERY wrong and strikes at the very foundations of our election system. I asked over 60 politicians both incumbent and candidates to denounce it, bring it to the forefront of the conversation. NOT ONE REPLY. NOT A ONE and I kept pushing it. Other citizens pushed it too once they saw me do so... NOT A WORD.

I believe most people don't know much about tariffs, its similar to Ebay categories, where you have sub category to a sub category and each of those sub categories have their own tariff code, you can put a percent fee on each code level at different rates. So you have many different levers you can play with. I was part of department of a large retailer that would audit and update those tariffs on the PO's, companies will show the tariff at a line item level, so they can be tracked and analyzed based on business needs. Like you said Kevin it will not be across the board it will need to be used as a U.S. comprehensive strategy.

I can't tell you how things will go. Most economists I have listened to say if he does what he says he will, then the economy will get worse. I don't think he will do half the things he says he will (what President does? Not everything is their choice) I do know my sales have gone down since the election. But I don't have a lot of impulse buy items. People aren't just going out and buying now the election is over. Some are, thinking the economy will get better, others are hording their money because they are even more worried than ever about the economy. I can't say what direction the second hand market will go. I find this to be too up in the air to guess. I think most people assume what they want to believe, not using any actual data or anything. It is sad that so many companies are already having to do things like cut Christmas bonuses and reduce work force to brace themselves if those promised across the board tariffs do happen. They can't just wait and see what happens, they have to prepare now. People tend to look at the side they want, not both sides. I things will depend on what things actually happen in the government versus what the plan is at the moment. 🤷♀️

The boom was during the pandemic with most everyone home and some free government checks in their pockets. Reselling will be steady, IF you buy quality items to flip. That will always sell. We still have to buy low and sell high due to the increasing fees on the platforms and with shipping. I also think in general the economy will be better. I don't think it can get much worse. We'll have to see what happens with the tariffs in relation to costs for some goods, but only time will tell.

There will always be opportunities appearing and disappearing. Whether or not you adapt is the key factor to your success. For decades, people have continued to claim that "so and so is dying" whether it's a card game, a MMORPG, or a reselling platform. But while some cry wolf, others are finding ways to thrive. A lot of people are about to have buyer's remorse after voting in a POTUS that has made it no secret that he's going to increase the prices of imported goods, and the price of groceries too. Yes that's going to be a reality if he plans on deporting all of the farm workers who help keep the cost of labor low. FAFO.

Two things: you can be political without being partisan. Most of what you were talking about was politics, it just wasn’t partisan. Second, “inflation” is not a synonym for price increases, and it isn’t caused by spending. We have fiat currently. Inflation is caused by printing and digitally adding zeros to the left of decimal. They do this continuously, they just upped the rate significantly.
@commonwealthflipperКүн бұрын
Partly correct. But spending more money than the government takes in is actually increasing the money supply by borrowing money. So while you are correct it is done as a result of overspending. The other was is through the fed. Both can be results of overspending but one certainly is every time.

The inflation was global. You’re exactly right. The economists warned that it was coming. It was pretty much guaranteed after the pandemic. The US actually faired better than most of the world. However, the corporations made a lot of money off of increasing prices. That’s just a fact. Corporate profits are way up. The middle class tax cuts have already expired. The expiring tax cuts they are worried about are for the Uber wealthy. And overall energy costs won’t go down because normal people will have to spend much more on keeping a home cool as the planet gets hotter and hotter. Most people cannot afford solar, especially because those tax credits for solar are going to disappear. Just like most renewable energy projects will disappear in favor of more oil pipelines and fracking. Tell me I’m wrong in a year.
@commonwealthflipper3 күн бұрын

The tariffs will drive prices for new goods up. Hilariously, the tariffs put in place by his first administration were largely kept in place and part of the reason for price increases. But people like to forget that part. Do I blame Biden for that? Yes, because he could have removed them and he didn’t. However, the president doesn’t actually have that much control over prices overall beyond adding to them through tariffs. The tariffs WILL increase prices. It will be a good thing for resellers selling basic needs, but it’ll drive more newcomers into the reseller game and people will complain about that. My financial planner, and 80% of economists, are predicting a recession if he implements the tariffs he promised. But we’ve entered the FAFO stage now. So enjoy the ride folks. I’d put cash away now.

People aren’t going to be buying essentials on eBay lmao
@mspaula05093 күн бұрын
People buy essentials on eBay ALL the time. Clothes, makeup (essential for some, not for me), home repair items (used drills, drill bits). Basically the only things you don't buy on eBay is food. But unless you live in a nudist society (i ain't judging)---clothing and shoes are essential and probably the most selling items on ebay.

@ hmm most people I know don’t buy their clothes on eBay. Amazon, department stores, malls maybe. Clothing on eBay is usually more of a vintage or niche type market. My opinion is that I’ve heard several resellers on KZbin recently state that the economy is so bad and inflation so high that people are buying their essentials secondhand on eBay. I really doubt that. For clothing and other essentials it’s usually much cheaper to buy on Amazon if you have prime or to buy in person

Interesting you mention subscriber loss. I watch another KZbinr ENTIRELY different content-he just mentioned Loss of 3-4K of subs- all at once or within days. I. Wonder if it’s a glitch or being done on purpose to content makers. It’s just too strange , can’t be real subscriber dis-interest. ?!

This is actually spot on. And we all dodged a massive bullet in regards to these next 4 years... in regards to reselling is what I'm talking about. But to be honest, we dodged a massive bullet for the sake of our country. I, for one, am glad to still be able to call this the United States! It was looking iffy there for awhile! ❤ Love your show.

You did try not to be too political; I'm not sure you succeeded, and I almost turned the vid off at one point, but you tried so hard not to take sides that i stuck with it. One thing I've noticed is that some people complain and moan and groan (not you, Kevin)...but those people really should realize that's not good for your business. It's really not. So much of reselling involves the customer's perception. Staying positive not only helps your own mental environment, but people would rather shop with vendors that make them feel better, not people that are such downers. MPO - there will always be a place for reselling. The types of goods that sell, and the way we sell them, may have to change with the winds of the economy and the political scene, but there will always be people who love to find treasures (or bargains, or whathaveyou), and there will always be people who will buy them.

Well. We can agree on the positivity. I don’t know many successful business who spend their time complaining

Inflation has robbed my family 20% or more of our purchasing power over the last 4 1/2 years. I totally agree that inflation is caused directly by government over-spending. The one bright spot for me is that I have increased my sales by an average of 15% year over year for 9 years in a row. So reselling has allowed us to maintain our standard of living on a fixed income teacher retirement pension. I too am BULLISH on the future of reselling. More and More people are going to want my new and good used items at a discount so they may also stretch their precious funds.
@commonwealthflipper3 күн бұрын
I might add one thing to this however. It's not necessarily government spending alone that drives inflation, and all government spending isn't a driver of inflation. It is over spending revenues collected that is the problem. Whether that is through Quantitative easing or through acquiring more debt. That is the overspending that exapands the money supply and causes excessive inflation. I know you well enough to know that you know this already. Just making the point.

you've had like 20 videos in the last 2 months talking about how your going to lose subscribers and why reselling is ending...why do you keep doing the same stuff
@commonwealthflipper2 күн бұрын
I've had two in the last 3 months and I've never said reselling is ending. I just react to people who do. Also I only make 8 videos a month.

Since the election, my views and sales have tripled and quadrupled. I have actually sold more in the 3 weeks since than past 5 months. Had one live auction and many items sold higher than eBay comps. Most all buyers said they feel safer about spending so take it how you perceive it but I’m glad the result was what it was.
@jennifercarney17624 күн бұрын
I’ve had lots of doom spending going on too. People buying goods now while they can. We’ll see what happens once the tariffs get slapped in place and there’s nobody to pick the agricultural crops. You wanna talk about expensive food? Just wait and see.
