Chris Penn gives such a good performance as Nice Guy Eddie in this, he was always a solid character actor.

It even seems like there’s some Joe Pesci in rant mode being channeled there, to excellent effect. Of course, Sean got the really big attention (and deservedly so), but Chris had great talent as well. I think he was overlooked too much, and that’s unfortunate.

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tarantino started his own cinematic universe. Vic Vega is Vincent Vega's brother. He even planned on making a prequel to Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction called Double V Vega, about Vincent and Vic's adventures in Amsterdam. Eventfully too much time passed and the actors got too old.

Mr. White’s ex-partner, Alabama, was also a character in the Tarantino-penned “True Romance”.

Agreed. The more I watch it the more iconic the dialog is.

Eddie Bunker (Mr. Blue) was a real-life criminal in his old life before he became an actor. He said that he never would have done this, working with a gang of other thieves he'd never met.

Fun fact: This movie takes a lot of inspiration from a Cantonese film, 'City on Fire' (1987) directed by Ringo Lam Ling-tung.

@26:19 Chris Penn (R.I.P.) is the brother of Sean Penn who stars in the movie, 'Colors', which I recommend for a future viewing. I'm not sure if you two are into gaming at all, but Chris Penn was also the voice actor for Officer Pulaski in GTA: San Andreas.

9:25 - Great observation, I never noticed that. This is why I love reaction videos, and ESPECIALLY when it's someone with a big brain and great eye like both of you have! What a debut movie, right? I saw this the week it came out because there was all this press about what a comeback it was for Harvey Keitel. I was an instant Tarantino fan! Yeah, Vic and Vincent Vega are supposed to be brothers! Vincent Vega was actually written FOR Michael Madsen, but he couldn't do it so Tarantino got Travolta./ Oh man, in the intro I heard....."Jackie Brown"......"True Romance". THANK YOU. Early Tarantino is where it's at, as far as I'm concerned. After "Jackie Brown", I still enjoy most of his movies but those early ones are his best. Definitely the most disciplined and tightest. I haven't loved any of his films the way I love his first three (and "True Romance" is a great script, even though he didn't direct it, and the script was changed. It's still one of the great 90s movies.

I would honestly love to see another version of the movie where Nice Guy does the more SENSIBLE thing and have White stay behind with Orange. He'd already been aware that White was "mr. compassion," so leaving him behind would have made more sense. Of course, then we wouldn't have THIS version of the story. But I wish there was a version that followed that plot deviation.

18:17 -- Bill Burr did a clip where he talks about actors who nail the one small piece of a scene that they're in. And Bill talked A LOT about the cop who says, "I will shoot you in the FACE.......if you don't put your hands on that fuckin dash."

Opening film credits have been a standard for most of film history. Oftentimes the credits are artfully designed by a different art director, and sometimes the credits are the most interesting and memorable aspect of a film. Also, it becomes a selling/promotional point for the film and the actors. Honestly, it’s weird to think that people think it’s a weird concept. You mentioned “Ocean’s Eleven”. Saul Bass famously did the opening animation/credits sequence for the original 1960 film.

pretty original for a tired genre. instead of making a heist movie about a heist, make a heist movie about the aftermath of the heist.

TIm Roth had a TV series that was pretty decent too called "Lie to Me". Another Tarentino film to see would be "The Hateful Eight"

The reason they didn't shoot the actual robbery is because this had a shoe-string budget. Initial budget was $30k. Then the producer's acting teacher's wife got the script in Keitel's hands and he loved it so much he increased the budget by almost a million and a half out of Keitel's own pocket.

I love pretty much all of Tarantino's films but I'm still not sure that any other has ever topped this one. And yes, it always seemed to me like it could be easily translated into a stage play.

Tarantino revisited the concept in "The Hateful Eight", that also takes place largely in one setting and could be translated to a stage-play. The difference is that there is a central female character in "Hateful Eight", and a racially diverse cast where the thematic idea is the reconciliation after the Civil War. All of Tarantino's films are so wildly different from one another, that it is extremely unfair to compare them. They are all masterpieces (so far), even the ones that are underappreciated, like "Death Proof".

"Natural Born Killers" is another Tarantino written film. He took his name off it because he didn't like the direction Oliver Stone went with it. Some of the same character names are used in it as well. This movie never gets old for me. At the end you suddenly realize how tense you've been for the last hour and a half.....

I think you'd both enjoy reacting to Hitchcock movies. Start anywhere really, but Rope is a quick way to get into him.
