Happy Yule to all the northern hemisphere witches! It's always a little strange seeing you guys celebrating and preparing for winter when it's summer for those of us in the southern hemisphere.

oh yeah, I know what you mean! In our area we celebrate 'Christmas in July' with the coldest time in July :) But growing up in the Northern Hemisphere, there is still the feeling of 'winter season' in my heart, so I decorate accordingly 🎄❄🎄 Do you celebrate Litha instead of Yule? Wishing you a happy solstice from Australia ☀

I live in the Canadian Rockies, so it's full winter here. My house is in the forest, so I like to gather branches of spruce, pine, and juniper to keep in a vase on both my altar and in my bedroom. The beautiful scent makes it feel like I am sleeping deep in the forest. Now that the bears are hibernating, we feed the birds. Raw, shelled peanuts for the chickadees (we get black-capped, boreal, and mountain), woodpeckers, and flickers. Cat food for the whiskeyjacks (grey jays) and Steve the red squirrel. All the birds will perch on our hands to eat. Indeed, one mountain chickadee (the cheekiest species!) tried to climb into my husband's pocket. Merry Yule to one and all! 🎄

I love this!! I already dried some oranges alongside baking ginger and pecan butterball cookies with my mom, my best friend, my grandmother, and my bestie and i's kiddos. We decorated the oranges with Star anise, cinnamon sugar, and whole cloves. They smell amazing! I plan on drying more and making garlands and hanging decorations using them, some simple oranges without that extra stuff, cranberries, and maybe some cinnamon sticks and ribbon. I like hanging them in my tree in front of the Christmas lights, because they glow so beautifully! My husband, kids, and I also make some more complex decorations with the fancy dried oranges using cinnamon sticks, juniper and pine sprigs, pinecones, bees wax as glue, and sometimes ribbon or twine. It's become a Yule season craft family tradition that I really look forward to. I adore your videos, Annie. They give me so much peace and inspiration. Sometimes I forget to check your channels for a while, and then you appear on my feed like a gift sent just for my mental health and encouragement. Never stop doing this beautiful work that you do. ✨💗🪴🎄

This year, I made some orange slices and dried rosehips into sun-catchers for friends! I tied pieces of sea glass and shells to the bottoms, and enchanted them a little before sending them on their way. My sister loved hers, and I think I'll keep it up next year!

Not a garland idea, but I'm definitely putting a clove-studded orange pomander on my altar for the season. I've been obsessed with orange and cinnamon essential oils since the weather turned here in the PNW, so a pomander feels on point as an altar item 😊

Thank you for such a relaxing video with so many beautiful settings. A few years ago, I started the tradition to make an 'Adventkalender' by adding everyday something which reflects this season, eg: cutting papersnowflakes from scrap paper I collected over the year and hanging them in the windows. I love to bake, but this can be challenging with the heat we experience in the southern hemisphere (yesterday it was 38degree C which is 100 degree Farenheit) Living in the Southern Hemisphere I celebrate 'solstice' with a reflection of Yule and Litha as well. Both being connected with the sun, I like to light yellow or beeswax candles. ☀ Happy witchy solstice ☀

Is a witches calendar different than a regular calendar and if so, can you explain?
@alwayscuriousalwayslearnin
@alwayscuriousalwayslearnin 6 күн бұрын
I am going to say this I am by no means a witch, I do practice many different belief systems that I combined and use what works for me and have discarded the rest , but am like my name says. I do know something that my grandmother taught me as a child that is the few times I as with her and she wouldn't have considered herself a witch but many of the things I have noticed that are called witchcraft my grandmother used to do (this was in the early mid 1970s). Well as for days of the calendars are the same, at least in the calenders I have bought and the notes that my grandmother has passed on, but some of the witches calenders I also have the moon phases and some speak of people during some parts of the year like mine for December has a little write-up about Issobell Smyth, last month for November it had a little rite up about November Moon of Loss, but like I mentioned has moon phases certain flowers colours plants . but I think that there are many different types of Witch calendars out there from different parts of the world, from what I have learned is that Different parts of the world witchcraft can be different because it works with the spirits in the area and plants and also ,the seasons are different south they are approaching spring and summer up here where I live in Canada its Fall Winter.

Look into the wheel of the year, there is a lot of information about that, both in books and on the internet But if your commenting on the fact that it's officially still fall: I'm quite sure that for Annie living with the seasons means living and working with the changes and cycles in nature, not being stuck to a static date on a calender.

@@maggienotastationWinter solstice is not the start of winter, it is midwinter, just as summer solstice is midsummer. There is a traditional Christmas hymn called “In the Bleak Midwinter,” which refers to the solstice/Christmas time of year. The people who created the wheel of the year based it on Northern European/British seasons, which may not coincide with the weather in other parts of the world.

Hate to tell you, it is still Fall. December 21 is the beginning of winter. Still. You’re in Washington State. So, I understand how you may feel it’s already winter. It’s the best time of the year, no matter where you are. Merry Xmas to all.

Hate to tell you, but winter solstice is midwinter (just like summer solstice is midsummer), hence the traditional Christmas hymn, “In the Bleak Midwinter.” The wheel of the year is based on Northern European and British seasonal shifts. Winter was Samhain to Imbolc. Spring was Imbolc to Bealtaine. Summer was Bealtaine to Lughnasadh/Lammas. Autumn was Lammas to Samhain.
