Resident Evil 4 on iPhone 15 Pro Max & iOS FPS Meter! FPS, GPU/CPU Usuage, & More!

Now that we finally have Resident Evil 4 released, we can test yet again another PC game ported specifically to iOS! As usual I will test in 25c ambient temps. On another note, for this test I will max out both brightness and volume to push this phone to its limits since I will only be testing for about 25 minutes. Okay, before diving into this test, I do also want to talk about FPS and graphic settings. As many of you know by now, Capcom has not only locked-in graphic settings on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but the devs have also locked in the FPS to 30. Unlike Resident Evil Village, you cannot adjust graphics or increase FPS to 60. Henceforth, after this test we will look into GPU and CPU usage and see if this is the reason why. I still strongly recommended recording these gameplay videos with a capture card. I use Elgato capture cards, 4K60 Pro and HD60. Better image and audio quality and compared to screen recording it will barely (if at all) impact on the performance of the phone. Or with your camera shoot closer into the screen. Just my two cents. Written: January 12, 2024 While what you say is true, RE8 uses the same RE Engine as RE4R, meaning it gave the iPhone future proof gaming options for stronger iPhones/IPads and adding graphic options doesn’t hurt anything. Simply put, their is zero reason why Capcom didn’t include all the changeable graphic options and frame rates in the RE4R considering those crashes the iPhone 15 pro experienced on higher settings on RE8 were due to the player cranking them beyond the recommended settings. Although once you see the RE4R is 31GB on iOS and RE8 at max graphics only took 15.8GB of the 16GB iPad then you can see Capcom likely couldn’t add the graphic settings to iOS RE4R since RE8 at max was 15.8 which means the graphics could be added to RE8 as RE4R is double the storage size of RE8. Still, I hope as iPads get more Ram then those graphic settings can be enabled for RE4R as graphic options allow for freedom to customize your game and it made RE8 like the PC version as a direct port Good video, Dame Tech and Happy New Year

Most impressive. 😉 I’ve seen a few people saying “wow, now imagine, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is gonna beat this” but I doubt it: yes it has slightly higher raw GPU performance but slightly lower raw CPU performance, and this game seems to really like CPU as most games do these days (CPU bottlenecks GPU, the GPU isn’t even fully maxed and CPU getting hammered). Even if this wasn’t the case for this game, remember that the SD8G3 has serious throttling problems and can’t even beat the 8G2 in some tests. EDIT: These are my thought but of course I don’t know everything. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

I think the iPhone 16, 17, etc. are going to be legit gaming phones. I also think these games won’t come to Android, because of how easy it is to pirate and sideload apps. If capcom stays exclusively on iOS they make profit

Apple has exclusive access to Ubisoft, Capcom, 505, and a few others. Because of this contract, these games will not release on Android. Another thing is these devs are porting to iOS because they are already bringing these games to MacOS. Both MacOS and iOS use metal, so it's easy to port between devices. Plus, devs make more money as they can market off both Mac and iOS users. This is a big reason why Qualcomm is pushing to make their chips for Laptops/PCs. Hence, as devs start natively or porting games to PCs with Qualcomm chips these same games can be ported to smartphones with similar chipsets.

That seems odd compared to a lot of the other mobile games you've tested on this channel. Yeah Re: Village seems to be more optimized for iOS and uses more CPU, while RE4 Remake seems to be less optimized and just ported from PC; hence, the the priority of GPU. I think SD8G3 will definitely run this game better due to the better raw GPU performance; unless, metal is easier to code and translate from PC to iOS/MacOS. Also yes, you can switch up the touchscreen icons to match either Playstation, switch, or Xbox controller.

Even running with low graphics that is still unbelievable. Google should do a partnership to bring PC games for Android. Snapdragon 8Gen 2 above is extremely powerful as well so I think it would run smoothly too.

Jut one problem there, they are not unified, even Samsung will use their own Exynos in S24 again, so the Snapdragon sales will be lowered again with a pretty noticeable amount (and also their sales are also not that great, Apple alone selling more premium/capable phone like the whole Android market together, and developers will not make a game just for the 3% of app store), so on Android side the capable devices are way lower, also way more fragmanted (for example on display size, but the most important part here is the OS, they are running different Android, not just their looks but in lot of cases even the base Android version is different, what makes a lot of problem for the devs too) Basically they need to work way more for the way less reachable profit, just because of the huge fragmantation, and the lower percent of flagship sales. And nobody like to work for almost nothing (even with 2x more users in Google Playstore, their sales are still only half of the Apple sales, the Apple app store earn doubled amount of profit per year, what us the 15-30% cut off from the purchases).

@@TamasKiss-yk4st In my opinion, the only problem about Android ecosystem isn't the android itself, but the GPU API which lacks a lot of extensions or good drivers ( Both Vulkan and Opengl), the Metal is much better than the android API when it comes to extensions. The fragmentation or screen size/resolution isn't the problem because games are set to work in HD or full hd resolutions by default or depending on the game settings

I wonder if there’s any head room to at least increase texture quality a tad or resolution, and keep the frame rate at 30, I feel resident evil 8 could get a lot sharper. I’ve been playing the game and I’d say outside of textures and metal fx killing the sharpness, the preset graphics are actually pretty descent, a lot of settings from the pc version were turned on that I didn’t except to see running on this version

The frame pacing issues at later stages in the game make this borderline unplayable on the 15 pro. Fps dips to low 20s if not lower. Its a good showcase of technology but this isnt nearly good enough of an experience; where youd wanna finish the game on this. Also battery life isnt all that impressive either gaming on this which is surprising given its apple but then again not really since we know the power hungry nature of the a17 pro. Around 2.5 hrs of playtime is subpar imo.

I am getting around 2.5 hours with max brightness and around 3 hours on 60% brightness. Mind you, still impressive when compared to my steamdeck or ROG ally that gets roughly 1.3 hours at 15 watt performance. As for AAA titles coming to android, I do believe we will eventually see games ported to android but it will also most likely come to iOS due to iOS bringing in more revenue for devs. As for iOS exclusive AAA PC ports, I don't see these games coming to android in a very long time. Apple has an exclusive partnership with Ubisoft, Capcom, 505, and a few others. Hence, like Playstation exclusive games vs xbox, iOS will now have exclusive ports compared to android.

Remember Switch is streaming from cloud and not natively running on the Switch. The switch doesn't have the hardware to run RE4 Remake or RE Village natively unlike, the iPhone 15 Pro max here. In fact, the switch is running the original RE4 and not the RE4 remake that has been ported to iOS
