I'm playing through most (if not all) of the Resident Evil franchise and giving my opinion on the music, mechanics, story, gameplay, enemy , art design and everything else in each game for most of April. Trying to get hype for RE8 :) I'm not going to be uploading the Chris playthrough to youtube because I don't want to clutter my uploads too much! Enjoy :D

The save theme if this game is the only thing that makes me feel hope, calmness, dread, and anxiety all at the same time. It really screw's with my head. I miss those days on my n64 sneaking staying up past my bed time trying to beat this with my little brother.

Well, according to a Reddit poll I Googled up, RE2 has 38% of the votes, followed by REmake's 18%, 2 remake, 3 and 4's 8%, 5 and 6's 6%, Revelations and "I haven't played them all"'s 4% and 7's 0%. Clearly the majority very much agrees with Mr. Blake, but opinions, especially regarding music are objective, so one cannot be "wrong" as long as the source material follows the accepted criteria for its category (like if it didn't relate to the situation, was off tempo/key, was just random SFX, etc.). There must be a better use of my time than refuting KZbin comments with run-on sentences.

When I played this game when it first came out, all of my friends saw Marvin and said "Hey it's Will Smith!" 20 years later, I learn through this stream that multiple generations of gamers all feel the same way.

The window in the first floor east side stairway wasn't smashed in the original game. This is an aesthetic change only introduced via seemless HD mod of RE2 as like an easter egg. in the original game it was just a closed window.

Yes because re3 didnt exist back then. This is a call back to RE3, since nemesis happens before and after the events of re2. Its a really nice touch.

@@fittpappa687 Yep, that's what I meant. The modders added it as a homage to RE3. Since part of RE3 happens before Leon and Claire arrives it's really thoughtful of the modders. I only brought it up because bawk brought up the window in tandem with criticizing how RE2 Remake handled references to RE3 Remake. Meanwhile, modders were able to change one little thing in the background of one room in RE2 and the context for it is really vast.

My mother bought me this when it came out on ps1 (I was 11 I think) and I was so impressed by the intro. Unfortunately, I didn’t realise the point where you take over control wasn’t also a cutscene and like a complete cabbage, sat and watched Leon get eaten about a dozen times in a row... Utterly perplexed, I just happened to nudge the up arrow and finally realised that I was supposed to play.

I remember watching these cutscenes and thinking "man, when the in game graphics look like this, that'll be amazing!" Now we play a game with graphics that are incredibly, vastly beyond these and we're like "meh, the animation is a little clunky when they enter ADS".

Gamers are unbelievably spoiled myself included but I think it's a good thing in some aspects. Always pushing the envelope is why we have such amazing graphics now and that's a good thing. Can't wait for RE4 Remake and what it has to offer.

that window isnt actually broken in the OG gamecube release. Had to boot up the gamecube to double check.

Ive been rewatching some of your older playthroughs and i noticed how kendos cut completely changed the game. You just cant hear his lines and not laugh nowadays but in these BK (before kendo) videos, noone bats an eye. Its amazing how much one "tiny bit of a meme mod" can do for a community

One thing I've noticed recently is that pretty much the entire RE2 soundtrack has some part of Birkin's theme in it; or it sounds familiar, alike. It seems that was already planned since 1.5, with the unused track of what was supposed to be the safe room theme. And I just love that, it does truly feel like the music is accompanying you while you uncover the horrible mysteries of the G virus. Resident Evil 2 (1998, the one and only and the best) might be old and difficult to play by today's standards; it might have tank controls and fixed cameras, the game might be way too bright and clean to be an apocalyptic city (something they fixed in RE2make, with other changes, some good, others not so much...) But, at the same time, RE2make doesn't have what this game has, and that's what makes it so unique and special. The scenario system, the complete story of both characters piecing it together like a puzzle, the music (chef's kiss) , the characters (I love that they had quirks; that Leon had drunk himself to sleep the night before after breaking up with his girlfriend and that's what made him late to his first day, Claire's unshakable faith & bond w/Chris, that both Claire and Ada pretty much ignore Leon, the voice of reason, every time and he goes "why does noone ever listen to me!?", Claire being a savage but being absolute soft & protective with Sherry, Leon actually having some character in him and getting mad or being sassy af... Those quirks made them more real), the scenes, (god I love all the scenes in this game: the intros, when Hunk retrieves the G-virus sample, the endings...), the scenarios, the villains (I love Irons in this game; creepy, unstable and absolutely confident as he had his fucking butcher dungeon on the fucking police station), the monsters... Everything this game has, I love it. I could talk about this game for hours and I wouldn't get tired of it.

Same here man, best game ever, masterpiece. And I'm saying this as an old fart, 42 almost. Played it thousends of times, sometimes for records, sometimes for relax, also got the soundtrack CD in original which helps me getting to sleep. Some people could find it funny but without RE2 my life would have been much more poor experience. Greetings from Poland man, really appreciate your comment.

I just played the original dual shock claire A and leon B and that is hands down the greatest horror storyline of all time. The remake was great but they could have really remade it and made a terrific horror masterpiece. Imagine sherry seeing williams deformed face within G2's torso peaking from the shadows. "Daddy is that you?". I plan on making a fully revamped re2 ps1 mod with a transformed sherry, new enemies and areas.

I think I was 8 when I found this game on a demo disc with a few others. Took me a long time but eventually figured out the controls and made my way to the police station. Saved up for an eternity and bought it the day it came out. I have so much nostalgia towards this game

The sewer intruder /w the C4 was chief irons. It's implied that he's a serial killer in a note in one of the other games and his MO is luring women into the sewers and then hunting them for sport. R2Remake's C4 note seemingly being written from Irons' perspective reinforces this imo.

Something I really missed from RE2make were the journals and environmental details you'd come across upon interaction in RE2. Without them the game felt a little too sterile even though RE2make did a much better job creating a gritty atmosphere.

One of my favorite little details from this game is how some zombies just keep twitching when they're on the ground, even if you "kill" them. Like they're technically not dead and you just broke their bodies enough that they can't move anymore, but they're still trying. It really sells how unnatural the situation is and I wish that was something they kept in later games (don't remember if they do the same in 3 original).

Bawk mentioned not streaming old rpgs because of all the text reading. There is one good old rpg with almost full voice acting, Valkyrie Profile. The only problem with it is that the first half hour is all introduction that you can't skip (and you have to mash x to proceed). Not a problem if you want to watch it, but each time you want to replay it...
