There seems to be a pretty big diff between her in RE1 and 3, the outfit itself definitely isn't anything that crazy. But it felt like (to me at least) that the actual look all round was designed to make Jill more 'attractive'. Hence what I mean by sexualized, don't think it's too much of a stretch given the way Lara Croft was smashing through games during the same period lol.

If you want to say realistic then the reason for her outfit would be realistic because its an unexpected event that happen while she was in civilian clothing off duty. But if you want to argue that its unrealistic for her to wear it then you can argue that the entire game is unrealistic for the fact she can carry a last gun twice her size. So its stupid reason to drop her classic costume to begin with. But we now know the reason now. The designer recently admitted in an interview that they wanted to remove her sex appeal so she can be taken seriously. So wait, you mean the fan base behind Jill never took her seriously? So a woman isn't taken seriously if she have an ounce of sex appeal to her? Thats an insult and there are female gamers who feel insulted by that statement. Jill has been kicking since RE1 that's why people love her.

My favorite design will always be the RE1 remake! She looked exactly how I imagined the original Jill in RE1 and 3 looked if they were “real” if that makes sense. She didn’t look different to me, just her with more realistic looking high quality graphics.

My problem with the new design is that it feels derivative to a lot of modern female character design. She is a bit to similar to Lara Croft of the remakes. Like even if Claire's outfit in the past remakes still seemed too unispired (I feel that giving color to her Jacket logo would had help her pop out a bit) She feels at least separate from that design trend up until she takes out the jacket and is left with tank top and jeans going back to the same look like the rest.

The bottoms are anither thing I don't have much problems with the jeans per se tho something with more of a military style would make more sense. At this point I just want some variety in charecter design, it's the whole white military guy with short/shaved hair version for female characters, it's ok to use it every once in a while but overuse it and characters start to feel the same as a whole. At the very least they need to understand that there are more types of tops than tanktops

I don't like her new outfit in RE3 remake. It's way too much like one of the new Lara croft's outfits it's a costume that doesn't feels like a "Jill valentine exclusive look". Example: If a cosplayer wears this outfit in a convention you only can tell if it is a Lara or Jill cosplay just by looking the cosplayer hairstyle, thats how bland the new costume is.

@Oscar Coello Yes, I remember perfectly Lara´s classic outfit from tomb raider 1,2 & 3 (1996). If you put side by side lara from 1,2 & 3 and Jill from RE (1999), people can tell which character is who, even witout seeing both of their faces, here is no longer the case. In reality the new outfit is so unimaginative that just by adding a ponytail hairstyle to jill (like the one she uses in revelations) turns her 90% in lara croft. Just watch the ouffit from tomb raider 2013 and watch RE3 remake Jill outfit, swaping the characters heads barely do any change.

It's bold of you to assume that this is just petty nitpicking due to quarantine. The new Jill costume is pretty bland in my opinion as well because its just not "Jill" for me. I am not against new inventions or designs but the tank top is the most basic of the basic designs and it isn't anything interesting. Maybe the only different thing about it would be the white shirt underneath but imo, it serves little purpose to present this design as something new or innovative. If they were going for something more 'relatable' well, a tank top is not the only option. I will not say that if we swap Lara Croft with Jill, it would be the same. I disagree in that. But I will say that the tank top reminded me of Lara Croft as well because playing both games, the tank top has sort of become Lara Croft's identity now. She is among the most famous characters in the gaming world that wears it and it's like her signature look. That does not mean other game characters cannot wear a tank top but that does not mean it will not remind others of Lara Croft. Comparisons will be made and from a creative perspective, it can look bland to others. If some gamers want Jill to have her own new innovative costume (or the classic one) and if some gamers think this tank top is just not for her, what's so wrong about that? If I made up my mind to play this remake, I don't expect it to be just a copy-paste from the classic but I also don't expect it to be 'different' with the most basic stuff. For a remake like this, I will not only consider the gameplay/graphics/etc but also the visual designs of each character. So, give me something more broader than a tank top or just give me the old outfit. And thankfully, Capcom did give us the old outfit through DLC so I was glad about it. You like the new design? That's fantastic. You do you! However, I don't think there is anything wrong for not liking it at all. In the end, we can agree to disagree.

My favorite Jill design is her BSAA uniform in RE5's Lost In Nightmares mode. She looks older and more experienced, like she knows exactly what she's doing thanks to her experience in Raccoon City. Also, I love how it borrows some things from the STARS uniform from RE1, while still feeling unique.

I’m mixed on Jill’s new current model, her face is what is making me mixed but I like her outfit a lot. my favourite design of Jill is her RE1 remake. I personally love the MVC2 design the most. It was my first introduction to Jill and it’s been the one I think of when I think Jill for years. I just love how expressive she is, she’s afraid when she summons the zombies, she’s relaxed when she’s won, she’s holding on for dear life when she used the bazooka! It’s all there and so fun, and personally I adore the cheesy voice lines in the game that don’t really fit lol. Second favorite would actually be the RE5 DLC look. I think it’s an updated take on what her job and seeing as she’s become less of a military cop and works in the shadows chasing after Wesker it makes sense that she would look more sleek.

RE1 remake Jill is still my personal favourite. The outfit is so iconic, and the actual character itself is perfection. Cute, smart and sleek, the perfect counterpart to the Shonen manga hero that is Chris Redfield. For the face design, I do feel like Julia Voth really has that quintessential late 90s to early 2000s pin-up look to her, which is exactly how Jill Valentine should be. And as a side note, they also share the same initials

1999 RE3 design for sure~ personality wise they really do a good job with progressing her being a very heartfelt character that sees umbrella as monsters for doing this to the ppl of raccoon city. ok so back when the game was new I was 12, I questioned her outfit choice too. but it makes sense back then a friend told me look at what the zombies are wearing its probably very hot. and it makes more sense as i've gotten older shes a 23,24 year old woman, just because shes a badass stars operative doesn't mean that it has to overwrite her wanting to be sheek, she was probably getting dirt on Umbrella as the city went to shit so it would make sense that she would try to blend in, operation racoon city jill looks pretty too. What Jill wears in Resident Evil 3 is supposed to be impractical though...she's not on duty and has to suddenly escape. Given her design in re1, I think it's fair to say she generally cares about looking good. Her stars uniform isn't out of place, but stands out as being a bit more fashion-y than the others and reflects her personality. Her wearing normal clothes in resident evil 3 gives this extra sense of dread and reminds you the entire time that the player/Jill is not really prepared or equipped for this. It's reminds you that the events are messing with her life. The outfit isn't out of the ordinary either. Like I said she clearly cares a bit more about fashion, and what she wears is just generally slightly fashion-y and trendy for the time

Jill’s re3 outfit was completely practical. She wasn’t expecting the zombie outbreak to happen as fast as it did, she was in more casual clothing because of this. Once Jill noticed zombies had started taking over it was too late. She had to leave her apartment RIGHT AWAY. She didn’t have time “oh what’s practical for me to wear right now” zombies took over her apartment and like I said she had to GO. So storyline wise the outfit completely makes sense regardless of your personal feelings towards the outfit. And in remake the outfit also would’ve made complete sense as well because close to the original it happens literally in the blink of an eye with a twist this time nemesis showing up to her apartment. That design is iconic.

The toilet paper joke omg. Those are my thoughts about few of Jill Valentine's characters designs. First, her S.T.A.R uniform from RE. It's simple yet practical. While it not realistically militar as you mentioned, I think the color gaves flavor to her design, since blue is a color usually connected with the police. And the remaster, just made it better. Second, her outfit from RE3. It's impractical. However, it adds charm to her design and highlights to her feminity. Her RE: Revelations outfit looks like an entire suit. However, it reminds more of a spy aesthetic than an actual soldier. And finally the RE3 Remake design. Her outfit still retains the famous blue, however, it's practical, simple and suits better for the situation. On few occasions, I noticed that Jill's short hairstyle tends to change from left to right. It doesn't add more significance, it's only a little detail that I wanted to point out. Otherwise, either short or long hair suits her anyways.

I honestly think that the arguments about practicality are a bit silly. Especially in a game where people survive impossible to survive things in cutscenes ( which makes it canon ) and it's not like it's a medieval setting where people fight with swords in armor xD. I can understand that it doesn't fit her character in the remake, but I mean Ada is wearing a dress and heels in RE2R. The fact that Ada wears heels alone ( and her dress is quite tight too ) is actually genuinely impractical and unrealistic. But it didn't make it any worse or Ada a weaker character, if anything I think that it just added to her character and the fact that it was impractical doesn't really matter. And it does make arguments about what is and isn't practical or impractical come across as a bit silly to me, because it clearly doesn't matter in this series. The only way in which Jill's original outfit in RE3 is really impractical tho is that there would be a lot of upskirts going on with the different camera angles and it doesn't fit the tone of the character ( it still works with Ada tho ). I dunno tho, it kinda just annoys me when people talk about practicality in a way. Because I think that this excessive obsession with '' practicality '' leads to very boring and samey character designs in games with realistic graphics. Ada's design would be way less interesting if she had to be wearing '' practical '' clothes. Sometimes style over function is just more interesting, and ultimately it's a video game meant for entertainment and not a simulator or real life. I get what a lot of people are saying about the tone and Jill as a character specifically, but every time I hear the word '' impractical '' I can't help but to think that people don't actually care about it for real. Because if they did they'd be going on about it with Ada but everyone seems to have totally forgotten about her and never talked about her wearing heels at all. But suddenly now it's a subject people are talking about? It just seems insanely selective to me, and I don't think that an outfit being '' practical '' or not makes it inherently better or worse in a game. It has no impact on aesthetics imo.

I think her original costume fits better for Jill. She's a feminine woman who shows it through her appearance and has always had a motherly sense of attitude and personality. While her remake appearance also fits well and was still caught off guard when she was off duty from work, and had no issues with looking pretty and beautiful. Now in the remake it just looks like they gave her the Lara Croft remake treatment.

Why people try to say "RE3 original Jill's costume is impractical and weird", from the original and remake of RE3, you can see that everything is happened by surprise. Jill should not suppose to prepare for the outbreak and still rest in her apartment. It should be in comfortable outfit and she need to remove her outer vest to move comfortable. I hate the "make sense" outfit since no one will sleep when wear the jeans. so tank top with outer clot, short/skirt are making sense more than wear 2 shirt with jeans when rest in the apartment Also, the original blue RE1 cloth is great since she is a police not soldier so keep the blue colour design is great.

Best version Remake Jill (Julia Voth face). My second favorite is Revelations ( that wet suit is so good). I didn't like that new desing. I really didn't understand how it looks worse than that actual face model. And costume is generic as hell. I didn't understand these practical or realistic arguments. It is a video game about zombies and creatures, who really cares about realistic look. Just desing something creative. Was Ada's RE4 costume practical or realistic? No way. Was original RE3 Jill outfit practical or realistic? No way. But they were creative, good looking and turned iconic now.

Sad thing is, with few modification, the original re 3 costume can be modified to look more practical without changing its original look. Keep the blue crop top, change skirt into skort or shorts, keep the boots, add a little bit of armor and gear like in re1 alternate costume, Julia Voth face, done. They should do that instead of changing entirely.

I like her new outfit because it's practical but I'm a bit unsettled with her face. Capcom really was trying to feature its face capturing technology here but atleast they could have kept a few features of jill from past games. One thing i kinda hoped from her face design is an emphasis on her Jap/French features. Most of her designs are all Caucasian but no Asian whatsoever.

There was a big change to her facial features for the Gamecube remake that I really didn't like. Her face went from narrow, petite, and almost cat-like, to this broader, more square-jawed, and in my view less attractive model. I actually really like her model in Operation Raccoon City and I'm not thrilled with the remake version's hair. I always saw Jill as being quite straight laced, confident, and refined, but her latest portrayal is more rebellious, punk rock, and rough 'n' ready.

I understand that jeans and a tank top are more practical in a situation like this... but she looks like a side character in a COD game, she just looks really generic imo. Not to mention that this is like the third time Capcom has added a girl with jeans and a tank top in the new RE games. Can the RE Engine not handle *any* other type of clothes? Both the female protagonists in RE7 wore tank tops and jeans, see what I mean? The best character models for Jill are probably Revelations and the HD remake of RE1 in my honest opinion. The RE 5 dlc outfit it's by far the best one. I can't help but think of Julianne Moore's character in _Next_ . That outfit really sells the explosives expert turned anti-BOWs activist persona. And just in case you didn't know, none of her outfits "sexualises" her, and even it did, there's nothing wrong with sexualizing her. Nothing a man likes is wrong. Feminism bad, men good 👍
