I watched your video on the Resident Evil 3 Remake to which I fully agree. I might even be more critical. I watched your addendum to it and still feel you went easy on that "game". Watching this; I got to the part you say "maybe Resident Evil 2 is more famous and maybe Nemesis for the more passionate fanbase which I'm in." I loved hearing that and had to comment and hope you see. I am exactly the same way. Resident Evil 3 is MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE GAME, Above 2, above the remake(RE1), above Super smash bros Melee, Above titanfall 2...Above RE4. Does anyone actually prefer CVX??? lol The remake (RE3) was awful and made me cry a little bit to how frustrating, lacking, and insulting I found it to be. I found the RE2 remake was good for 2-6 playthroughs but to be never played again. In comparison I playthrough (fully unlock all things) the old games once every 2 years. I feel no need to ever play RE2 remake again and you would have to pay me to play RE3 remake again. Why the hell can't they get a decent battle-mode or mini game anymore??? Prices have become ridiculous and DLC is a cash grab with very little enjoyment and something that should have been unlockable to begin with. Thanks for the content and for refuting the doofus class who now enjoy video games that play themselves while the user eats doritos and watches. Also not knocking doritos...

For me fixed camera is bullshit. Creating frustrating and insufferable navigation. While over the should both making navigation a lot better and creating ONE SHOT CINEMATIC.
@AnoNymous-gn6tl Жыл бұрын
@@thanhvunhat6995 I find that the fixed camera/tank-controls are a part of the charm and difficulty of the old survival horror games: great for the creators to set up jump-scares, and let the players enjoy literal works of art that our characters traverse through, along with the challenge of limited space and inventory management. Third person, specifically over-the-shoulder, aiming and navigation is far more intuitive and easier, far more aligned for a game with a focus on action (e.g. Resident Evil 6, Gears of War, Army of Two, Max Payne, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 3, 4, etc.). So, while I agree in terms of having comfortable controls, I find the cumbersome fixed-camera and 'tanky' controls actually lends itself well to building a slower survival horror atmosphere, where resources are limited, and every enemy encounter needs to be weighed as a fight-or-flight situation, to conserve whatever health/ammo you have. I wouldn't want to just rush through the RPD station or a nice quiet typewriter room and miss out on that unique ambient experience. P.S. I will say that even almost thirty years later, I am somewhat miffed that the post-game rewards for most survival horror games tend to reward players for speed-running a game, which feels counter-intuitive if you actually want to enjoy the experience. Still, blurring through the Resident Evil 1 gamecube remake in under 3 hours is an interesting challenge, but I prefer to take my time to savor it.

I've been binging through a ton of old RE games over the last few weeks, so I played both the original PS1 game and this remake, and another amazing thing about it is how it twists your expectations if you have played the original. I'll never forget how creeped out I was with the empty and eerie police station. The music and atmosphere was stellar. This goes to your point about cinematography, the angles were either towering over you making you're character seem small and insignificant, or they were from the ground looking up, making you feel small. and the janky tank controls made encounters more intense due to the limited movement. I remember how I had to build up a lot of courage to enter that one hallway after you first see the licker crawl across the window. great times, it'd be awesome if they brought back tank controls with the camera angles. While I loved the RE 2 remake, it will never capture the atmosphere of the original.

RE2 Remake and REmake probably have my favorite zombies in the series, REmake's while exploitable help compliment the navigation and planning the game emphasizes perfectly with their Crimson Head mechanic adding onto a player's decisions when confronting them and making them think beyond either risking ammo or health, meanwhile the unpredictable nature of the RE2 Remake zombies from their movements, speed, and health always makes encounters with them very trivial since anything could happen with them, it compliments the more expansive combat the game emphasizes along while still being major obstacles to consider in navigating, I think it's very commendable for both of these games making me feel that these basic and normal enemies are probably the biggest threats in the game, more so than the likes of Hunters and Lickers imo
@markcobuzzi8263 жыл бұрын
Speaking of Crimson Heads, I imagine that the RE2 Remake could have incorporated them into its gameplay with these changes below. I am curious to know what you would think of them: 1.) Remove the knife fragility mechanic completely and make all knives unbreakable. However, make finding additional knives extremely rare, so there is more pressure to reclaim an embedded knife. Plus, have knives not be able to dismember zombies, as another counterbalance. 2.) Program zombies so that, once they are unconscious, the only additional damage they can take is specifically dismemberment, decapitation, and incineration. That way, players need to expend ammo for that peace of mind. 3.) Because there are far more zombies in the RE2 Remakd, have it be the result of random chance, whether an unconscious-but-intact zombie will rise back up as a Crimson Head. Rather than it being inevitable for certain zombies to become Crimson Heads, like in RE1 Remake, players would need to decide whether it is worth spending ammo to prevent the mere possibility of that zombie getting back up. 4.) Make it possible for zombies to become Crimson Heads, even if they are missing a limb or more. This could be a callback to the Regeneradores in RE4, which even tried to leap at Leon, when a leg was destroyed. 5.) Retcon the lore so that William Birkin’s strain of the T-Virus still makes zombies become Crimson Heads, as a temporary intermediate stage before they fully grow into Lickers.
@viewtiful1doubleokamihand2534 жыл бұрын
I am currently replaying it again on my Switch. This game... is pure brilliance of survival horror game design. I am mostly talking about the Spencer Mansion map layout and the lovely ways shortcuts and enemies are utilized, turning the game into a game of pure tactical planning. Unlike most other Resident Evil games beyond REmake there is so much more thought put into how the player has to move, which doors are unlocked from which side, which one lacks a doorknob, which one's doorknob is breakable if you overuse it... All of it makes so much sense and if you are not smart you will have to make much more trips through corridors that now might have Crimson Heads in them instead of regular zombies... At some point you realize that survival horror is about management, not just about raw scares, boss battles or even the puzzles. Love it. No clue why CAPCOM hasn't still made a Resident Evil roguelike game. Seriously ! It is a game that craves and deserves to be made.

All you have to do is drop the items you want to keep track of in a type writer save room just like you would do with the item box. There's a limit to how many items you can drop per room but it's relatively high. I actually prefer being able to drop items for a key item and be able to come back for it later instead of discarded items just disappearing in to thin air for no reason. They should have had the item box though with the ability to drop and recollect items wherever though. I get having to sacrifice a item to make room for a key item can potentially add to the horror survival factor but in reality most of the time you just have to run all the way back across the map to the item box then come all the way back. I try to keep my items at about 4-5 maximum so I always have several open slots. One firearm, ammo for it, the knife to save bullets and a healing item or a stronger weapon instead of a healing item. The more powerful weapon will protect you from damage but if you're out of shotgun shells, take an herb mix. This should leave you with a few spaces at all times.

You actually can't, because you can consume ammo, herbs, and ink ribbons to free a slot. Hypothetically, the closest you can get for Chris is Blue Gem, Wooden Crest, Knife, Pistol, and then the other two slots can contain large stacks of valuable resources to waste (handgun clips, ink ribbons). This assuming you're playing on a fresh playthrough, and not carrying any bonus unlocks like the infinite ammo handgun, which sort of moots the point of picking up the handgun clips anyway. (Side note: daggers/grenades do not take up inventory space) But I will still acknowledge that the Ink Ribbon and Wood Crest are literally two of the first items you can pick up and potentially waste/clog your inventory with. I wouldn't say that's a 'bad' thing, it teaches that you have limited inventory, limited resources, and that zombies can kill you very quickly, all in under the first hour of the game--and also that you don't need to pick up every single item you see in your first trip through a room, if it's not critical to expanding the amount of area you have to explore and advance the game state. (Edit): Actually, come to think of it, you 'could' soft lock the game as Chris, if you crammed the handgun, knife, blue gemstone, wood emblem, shotgun shells, and an infinite ammo weapon from the bonus playthroughs into your inventory--but you'd have to either be 'trying', and already have beaten the game at least once, or else be playing on the save file of someone who has.

The resident evil 2 remake is really good, but I am still disappointed that it didn't become the definitive version like the resident evil 1 remake did for the original. Perfection.

Same. I enjoyed it a lot and the only real gripes I have is that collectibles for 100% completion are kind of a chore, the fact they toned some areas down like the lab (it's pretty anemic compared to the original) and the way B scenario barely even matters unlike the original. They added their own new material so it's forgivable but it wasn't straight upgrades. It was 2 steps forward, 1 back instead of 3 steps forward like the first REmake

I recently played through 4 for the first time, and I enjoyed it but couldn’t understand why everybody said it was the best. So why do you think so?
@BigBossHayabusa4 жыл бұрын
Lycanthrope2333 that’s a complicated question to answer. First of all, the “sit and hit” people like to hate on is one of the most genius things about the game. Enemies can surround you and creates tons of intensity when enemies are coming from multiple sides. The level design also pushes this concept all the time. The sheer amount of set-pieces to change up gameplay, the quiet sections that let the player explore, collect items, and break up the pace extremely well, how the game continues to vary the environments, enemy types, bosses, puzzles, and set-pieces throughout the entire 15-20 hour game is absolutely unbelievable. The soundtrack is also fantastic and all of the extra modes and unlockables? It’s such a complete package. In short, that’s why I think it’s the greatest game ever made.

@markcobuzzi8264 жыл бұрын
As for RE0, I think The Sphere Hunter’s review does a good job at breaking down its strengths and weaknesses for you to judge. From what I myself recall, I would probably rate my own experience with RE0 an 8/10, while the RE1 Remake gave me a 10/10 experience. If you would like to read my own mini-review below... One on hand, RE0’s general visuals and atmosphere were on par with the RE1 Remake’s presentation, in my opinion. There was a lot of great puzzles and soundtracks in it. I especially loved the inventory controls in that game, with RE Revelations 2’s being the only one that comes close to RE0’s versatility with the inventory. Also like RE Revelations 2, I found the partner zapping system to be an interesting experiment, which allowed some decent creativity with the level design. As far as new monsters go, I especially like the “Mimicry Marcus” leech monsters and the strategies needed to fight them. However, my main issues personally were the lack of convenient item boxes to save time (I agree with Sphere Hunter that the option to either place an item on the ground or put it in a universal item box would be perfect), certain aspects of the story, and the caliber of monsters compared to RE1/RE2/RE3. *spoiler alert below, if you care* I think I would have preferred if James Marcus came back after Spencer’s assassination attempt, because he specifically implanted himself with a Nemesis Alpha Parasite. I would rather have this, than a “Queen Leech” monster just happening to crawl down his throat, which also just happens to have that same ability to duplicate a person’s intellect for no clear reason. That way, it would tie in with RE3, offer a new meaning to those parasites being named after the Greek goddess of divine vengeance, give Marcus a reason to have tentacle attacks in his first form, and make those Nemesis Parasites feel more integrated into the RE lore, rather than the game throwing in “magic leeches”. Granted, I still loved the Mimicry Marcus monsters, more so than Sphere Hunter apparently did. I think they could have still worked beautifully, as monsters that James Marcus unleashes and controls more indirectly, making him a “Queen Leech” in a more figurative rather than literal sense. Speaking of the plot, it kind of creates this gaping continuity problem, unless you go with a canon, in which Rebecca Chambers never met with Chris Redfield early on in the Arklay Mansion. Sphere Hunter complained about Rebecca Chambers being so vulnerable in RE1, after she would have supposedly taken on monsters like a Proto-Tyrant by herself. But that did not bother me much, since I can believe that sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and compounding psychological trauma from the previous 24 hours could weaken her in the short term. But what I do have trouble believing is why Rebecca would not immediately catch Chris up to speed upon meeting him, since she should now know about the Umbrella Corporation and its monsters. RE1 acts like she is just as unsure about the monsters as Chris/Jill. Regarding the variety of monsters, I feel that too many of the bosses not only felt like simple enlarged animals, but more specifically feel like enlarged common backyard pests. That contributed to the variety feeling narrower. I know the RE1 Remake had a few simple enlarged animal mutants as bosses, but it at least had Plant 42, Lisa Trevor, and the Elder Crimson Head (if you count that as a boss) to keep things varied. Plus, one of those three enlarged animal bosses was the Mother Neptune, a mutated shark, which is not exactly a backyard pest. The Proto-Tyrant is literally a failed weaker equivalent to the T-002 Tyrant in RE1, and if it was portrayed as a recurring heavyweight enemy rather than a boss, then it would at least have a more distinct niche. I already alluded to how I would have preferred Marcus being a uniquely grotesque zombie-like mutant, with a Nemesis Alpha Parasite preserving his speech/consciousness and being the source of his tentacle attacks, rather than a Queen Leech impersonating him. To finally talk about the other enemies, that was a mixed bag. The iconic Cerberus, Infected Crows, and Giant Spiders do make a return, but only in a few short segments. The zombies cannot turn into Crimson Heads, which may be a relieving or disappointing thing for some players. The Hunter Alphas from RE1 come back and appear a decent amount of times, which was nice. I loved the Mimicry Marcus and thought the Plague Crawlers were a decent new enemy. However, the Eliminator monkeys were a bit annoying with their attack patterns and had a ridiculous amount of health for something so small. The Lurker frogs just feel like a much more generic equivalent to the RE3 Remake’s reimagined Hunter Gammas, they only seem to appear once or twice, and they feel like yet another big backyard animal.

That is only one of the reasons but true. These days they make games based on what you mentioned, based on what's in trend for the twitch and the few people who are "celebrities" mainly in that platform and what's the political social norms, in sort they don't give a shit about the story nor they have the same passion as the older teams had about the games they made which is the main reason the games are being made. It's really sad that many companies more or less forced the older teams to retire from the gaming industries and even more for pretty much "exiling" specific teams from the titles they have created.

I never understood why people had a hard time with tank controls. Has no one ever used a remote control car before?
@Fedor_Kisliakov4 жыл бұрын
People should really learn to appreciate this cinematic style. Tank controls are actually super intuitive in classic RE. It's funny when people complain about them, yet RE4 is their favourite game that has the same fucking controls, just with a different camera. And there they actually are a handicap. This remake is just amazing. The Crimson Heads were such an ingenious idea. It made even a single zombie a legitimate threat. I assume this footage is from PC? Character models aside, it looks like a modern AAA title. This and OG RE3 are my favourites.

Awesome summary of the experience. This game is my 2nd favorite RE right after OG RE2's perfect blend of horror, action and variety. Either way I went through 15 runs+ with both due to their replayability. Remake 1 is much better than the OG RE1 in every way with the exception of the changes in arrange mode and it's costumes. Also it's not quite as challenging as the original as the enemies were much more aggressive. Also mayo if you like a full blown RE dedicated channel you should check out the LTRE podcast guys they've been around for about a decade but just recently gained some popularity. The blend of 3D and prerendered 2D is absolutely perfect. You totally forget you are playing a game. Instead you are immersed in the most terrifying and oppressive horror from start to finish. Even to this day, I still think this is one of the most artistically beautiful games ever made. It just goes to show that human artistry and ingenuity is what makes a game or any visual work look amazing, not necessarily the technology.
