Dude that motor is way more than 280 oz of Bud. More like 1200 Oz motor. It's probably between 1000 and 1200 Oz

@@drumhead14 how do you recommend I go about calculating how many watts I need from an amp for a given sub RMS rating? I've heard you should get a little more than RMS of the sub, and I've also heard you should get MORE than the peak power of the sub. Not sure what to do.

@@bailey2517 from what i was told if youre going for spl competition get an amp that makes the rms wattage at 4ohms. so if your sub is a 2000w rms wired down to 1ohm get an amp that makes 2000w at 4ohms so even with impedance rise youre still getting the rated rms. for a daily give yourself at least 500w headroom so if your sub is 2000w and wired to 1ohm get an amp that makes 2500w rms at 1ohm. you could match wattage but it seems like everyone likes to upgrade subs every few months

Yea if you're going bigger box don't go over rms, some of resilients subs are picky on that. Teams have alot more room just due to the fact how there built,but yea 5k rms you should be ok. I would personally go smaller and dump more power on it

Is just reconed a team 18 I ruined and the coil smells pretty easy but it’s stiff as hell it’s only ran about 6 hours. Is this normal? I have a jp 63 with lots of power going to it so no clipping and there’s clip detector on this amp. Is it normal to smell pretty easy? And is this cause the spiders are stiff and the coils struggling? Or is it just cause it’s new?

You need to let the woofer break in. You may have pushed it to hard and just started cooking the coil.

Yea 10s are nice but lack a tun of lowes. That a 15 and 18 can do, but they lack punch. Some really good 12s can get the best of both worlds.

@@drumhead14 lol I could do 12s at most. I'm also still into old school shit. I run ppi amp into jl audio 10wv2's. My head unit is an old school nakamichi. I have tried different amp and head unit but doesn't have the sound I like. My nakamichi is clean as fuk. Of course it's a dead head. And I have a McIntosh pushing my mids n highs. Clean as hell. Yeah I know class d shit has smaller amps with tons of power, but I don't like the sounds of them much.

@@rmh5102 yeah they say 1500 rms but you most definitely need to put a 3k on it if you got 1 but if you got 2 no less then a 5k but if you want them to move wire them to half ohm but you would need to have decent electrical plus your amp has to be able to support 0.5 ohms I got 3 on a bass 8 now I was thinking of doing 1 more but I decided to go with 6 all together and another bass 8 and I’m done!

@@drumhead14 that's a nice unit just needs some juice, I built a big ol 630oz 18 and unfortunately I used a D2 coil and my cab 45 just won't push it to it's potential at 1 ohm I can put it just shy of clipping and leave it there indefinitely, if I had used a D1 or D .5 it would have at half ohm I just built two D2 400oz 15s and that cab at . 5 makes some power. Some day I'll rebuild it I wish I had bought a 3"x3.6" D1 coil when it was available.

Typically, it's correct to quote the total motor wieght... Top plate + magnets+ bottom plate+ pole piece.... This looks around 100 pounds motor wieght.... very Sexy....

Yeah I think you're right 280 mmm sounds more like it more like a thousand to twelve hundred oz motor. When they give you the motor weight that's only the weight of the ferrite magnet. That doesn't account for the top and bottom plate or anything else. Like my soundqubed hdx3 they have 300 Oz Motors but I've had the motors off the basket and weighed them they are about 43 lb so basically the Oz measurement is is just the magnet weight because 300 Oz is basically what 18-19 pounds or so and the complete subwoofer weighs 50 pounds I'm just saying the parts besides the ferrite that makes up the motor is very heavy.
