This is when a lot of Sony games started to become very hand hold-y, to make the game more cinematic.

The multi-player was where it was at! 30 v 30 pure chaos was awesome! Still remember flanking around the big fire fights and tossing a hedgehog in a big group of baddies from behind and getting several kills. So satisfying :D

Despite being a Bungie Halo fan, I agree that it was a bad decision to add its two weapon limit to Resistance 2. They should've kept the weapon wheel/arsenal of the 1st game. I did like Resistance 2, but Fall of Man was better. At least 2 remained in the science fiction military genre unlike Resistance 3. Killzone 2 and 3 were better than both Resistance sequels in my opinion. Shame neither franchise is around today.

I loved the lessons they learned from this when it came to making resistance 3. Limited color pallete does not make a game ugly and scaling down a games plot doesnt make it any less enjoyable. I dont play games for story but admittedly the payoffs were dissapointing. However the world building was top notch and very much show dont tell. So many new elements like wild widowmakers, the corpse of a kraken, and finding another srpa(?) member. Good enemy encounters in decent arenas are better than any scripted boss fight(although we still got cave satan) brawlers were fun to fight, the first encounter with a stalker was awesome. Levels often time gave you the opportunity to have the upper hand. My nemory is foggy but the encounter where your defending the remnants from a siege of Chimera, when you take revenge on the wardens with the new green goo gun, all the new york levels felt different everytime I played them because of the arena designs that allowed a bit more freedom of movement and different tactics. While not exactly Doom Eternal I felt by bringing back a weapon wheel made the devs design the guns to work more harmoniously with eachother. Often times Id mix and match the effects of weapons like ice and sledge hammer or green goo gun and flame shotgun. For once, aside from Halo, I really thought they made a decent console shooter that could be as fun as the shooters we had on pc. Also does anyone have experience emulating this game on pc?

Resistance 1 was... it wasn't great, but it was good. I didn't come to appreciate it until my second playthrough, but I came out of it with good memories. Resistance 2 was a miserable trainwreck. I hated it. I even beat it twice just to see if maybe it gets better once you know what to expect, but it never does. Resistance 3 was alright. 'snot as good as 1. Nowhere near as bad as 2. IMO the best game in the series is actually the portable third-person shooter spinoff Resistance Retribution. It has all the stylistic trappings of R1, what's with the British chick narrating stuff over stills and the WW2 aesthetic being present (y'know, the aesthetic that's completely gone in R2 and R3), but it also has the more "in the moment" cinematic cutscenes as well, like R2 and R3, and yet unlike R2 and R3, the main character actually has a memorable enough personality. IMO Retribution is where it's at.

All of the critiquing of the campaign, while in some cases just and accurate, melt away if you had ever gotten a chance to play Cooperative. Over 8 completely different levels, 3 different classes, Medic, Soldier and Spec Ops, all truly supporting one another and always requiring a healthy mix of the classes, made the Cooperative mode incredibly fun. Each of the 3 classes could be leveled up to level 30 with different abilities and benefits as you went. Medics healed, Soldiers through up their shields and laid waste, all the while the Spec ops throwing ammo to soldiers to keep shields up and medics powered up for healing. It was a blast! Spec Ops could even ride the plasma shot from the marksmen to different, not normally accessible parts of different boards. It was so much fun! Then when you wanted something different, you could jump into PVP. With all of PVPs faults, you could at least engage in 30 on 30 PVP battles and not just in Team Death Match. It was a far, FAR better game that it's recognized as. OH and "F" Killzone.....one more time!

I'd say this series goes 1>3>2 for me (if I forget my memories of R2's co-op, haha). Resistance 1 is excellent. The Chimera are bulky and intimidating, it's the most creepy and grim (there's some good body horror with the conversion process) and it uses the alternative history theme really well. It's conceptually the best - it's WW2 with grotesque aliens. The soldiers charging towards the Chimera to their deaths sells that this is probably it for humanity. I really do love the increased scale of 2 though and the amount of enemies that could be on screen (the 8 player co-op mode, the Chicago level and 60 player mp were just amazing). It hyped the pure Chimera (more like the main villain Daedalus) coming to Earth and Resistance 3 just kind of threw that away. The flaws pointed out in the video like the 2 weapon limit, some poor boss fights and cheap deaths, and the more COD-like scripted scenes do detract from the experience a lot though. 3 has great shooting (it's very polished), brought back the weapon wheel, and the R&C-style weapon upgrade system was really fun ... but they reduced the scale of battles a bit too much not just from 2 but also 1. The snow level towards the end was the most fun part because it brought back those large firefights. 3 has the least effective horror as well. The level where you fight through grims in an abandoned town isn't scary or tense, and I think it was a missed opportunity. It's also only around 7 hours long so it ends just as it starts to get really good. As a series, it's a bit disjointed but I did love it and its crazy weapons, and would like to see it return.

@idakev2 жыл бұрын
@@datamanmachine lol. He enjoyed a game that you didn't - such is life. Resistance 2 was actually the best reviewed game in the series because it went above and beyond. The 8 player co-op mode was better than most dedicated co-op games and was very fleshed out (loads of maps and the map layout and the order of objectives was always different). The 60 player multiplayer was legendary. And while not perfect, the campaign is a lot of fun and has great weapons and high stakes. The Chicago level is probably the best level in the series.

@@datamanmachinedidn’t care much for the first or third. R2 was by far one of the best games made I mean just look at Metacritic. The only people who didn’t like it was the core fans of the first resistance which isn’t what this is about. It’s simply about if the game is fun or not and he basically said the zombies killed him to much so he didn’t like them

I played the online co-op with a friend back in the day, I loved playing the medic class, it was the first time I played a game where a healing class was an offensive one since they gave you a weapon that leached enemy health then you could could lob a blast at your allies that healed in a AOE, from then on Healing classes that have any degree of combat mindset to it are instantly my go to class, I never owned either but when I played a friends copy of TF2 and Overwatch you can bet I gravitated tword the Medic and Lucio respectively

Good video, but I really didn't like this game... Maybe I would've enjoyed it more if it was my first contact with the series, but after beating Fall of Man, 2 just felt miserable. Terrible FOV, highly contrasted and saturated visuals that make things hard to see, the stupid two weapon limit,... And enemies are still very much bullet sponges, specially the many mini bosses scattered around a very basic and kinda forgettable campaign.
