I've been using my CPAP machine for 5 years and the only instructions I got was to use distilled water and change the filter every three months. I don't use distilled water only boiled water left in the fridge overnight and it has worked fine for me. However thank you for showing how to thoroughly clean the actual machine I feel as if It's fresh air now.🤩

I am using my same mask/seal and tubing for over 4-years now. They are holding up just fine. I change my filter about every 6 months with some felt type material from Michaels that cost me about $1, and I can cut about 20 filters for it! My machine is now about 5-years old and works beautifully. It's obvious the manufacturer is telling us to change our parts frequently so they can capitalize on it... Just keep your AirSense 10 clean and it should be trouble-free.

Same ... I've been sleeping with a CPAP machine for 2 years. Initially, I bought-into the replacement schedule and so I have a collection of masks, two sets of tubing, and two humidifier chambers, but haven't purchased anything for about 18 months. I decided to gamble once and put my nasal pillows in the dishwasher (without dirty dishes) in the silverware basket. I used Cascade and ran it on its most gentle cycle with heated dry off. It works! They come out spotless and without damage. I also bought two dishwasher safe humidifier tubs. This stuff does NOT wear out! I just make sure I regularly clean everything.

I just started CPAP for the second time in several years. This is great information. I’m a Disabled Veteran, so the VA supplies me with all the CPAP supplies I might need. It’s one thing the VA does quite well!!! They told me I stop breathing 92 times an hour and for them to count it, I have to stop for at least 10 seconds. Yeah right!!! Whatever. If that were true, I’d think I should be dead!!!! How did I ever manage to wake up without a CPAP????🤔

I love this video, you explained it in great detail the maintenance of the machine; however, you forgot to mention to use distilled water instead of tap water, filtered water or spring water to clean the equipment. The minerals deposit (e.g. calcium) of this type water will accumulate in the reservoir and tubing. I don't clean it every day like the manufacture suggest, I do it maybe twice a month and the filter once a month.

This is an excellent video explaining how to clean the machine. I've struggled with the cleaning of the tank for years. I was always told not to use tap water to clean it because it would cause a calcium build up in the tank when you used the machine. I've come to realize that 2 of the places I used to buy my machines and supplies from were not only clueless but down right dangerous. One of them sold me a fisher price (paskal) machine. Burnt out in the second month of use and apparently there was no warranty on the machine. $1500 for just the machine down the drain. I'll never make that mistake again. Another one, when I booked an appointment the respiratory therapist never showed up for the appointment (left me sitting in my car outside their locked office for a couple of hours before I got ticked off and left) unless it was to sell me supplies and then compared to the place I deal with now they sold me the supplies at a severely over inflated price. The fisher price machine cost me almost double what I payed for my last Resmed machine. Fisher Price machine, hose and mask $1900. My recent Resmed Airsense 10 with the machine, tube, mask and filters just over $800. I also asked both of them how to clean the mask, tube, water tank and machine. You would not believe the bull they tried to feed me. Then I came across this video some time back and your other one about cleaning the tube. They blew my mind. I contacted the respiratory therapist I see now and she explained it all to me. I even bought the brush kit for cleaning the tube. She never mentioned it because she thought I already had the brush kit and knew how to clean everything. She was stunned to find out that the other 2 knew nothing about cleaning anything. Now she takes nothing for granted. You would not believe the crap that came out of the tube the first time I cleaned it. Also the elbow piece that connects the tube to the mask was clogged with mold. I never though to ask her what to use to clean the tank. That was my bad. Now, after watching this video, I know. For that I thank you very much. Your videos are very very informative. I've bookmarked several of them for future reference. Now I know I can find any info on my machine online on your channel and I can trust that info to be correct. I also don't have to spend time on the phone bothering my respiratory therapist. I think that if she knew I said I was bothering her she would kick my ......butt all the way across the parking lot. LOL Again, I thank you very much. Take care and be safe.

What about cleaning after covid??
@Sleeplayground2 жыл бұрын
Hello turbokidtb, Thanks for the question! Best practices for cleaning CPAP equipment Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation for cleaning. Read the fine print in the manual that came with the equipment. Every product is a little different, and the manufacturers test their equipment to know what might be harmful to its integrity. Most CPAP equipment cannot go into the dishwasher or the dryer, but some products can. The manual has that guidance. Some products are listed as dishwasher safe, but the fine print says it’s only ok to use the dishwasher once a week. If the manual or package inserts are long gone, no worries! RespShop has the manuals for most items available for download on the product page of each product. The manufacturers also keep them on their product pages. Establish a ritual. Clean those parts that need daily cleaning as soon as possible after you get up to keep mold and bacteria from growing in the moist environment. Even if you do not use a humidifier, your exhaled breaths create a damp environment in the mask and tubing that is very inviting to mold and germs. Dump the water out of the humidifier right away, rinse it with some distilled water, and let it start to air dry. The equipment needs to be dry before you use it again, so it is also essential to allow for enough time for air drying to occur. Create a clean start with a clean finish. Clean the container you soak your equipment in before you start. Soaking in the sink is possible, but ideally, get a plastic bucket or bin that you can wipe clean before and after each use with bleach wipes, Lysol wipes, etc. Any of those products on the CDC list are excellent choices for cleaning your container. Dry parts on clean surfaces. Draping the tubing over the shower with the ports pointing downwards is an efficient way to air dry it. Lay the mask and associated parts on a clean towel while it air-dries. Sunlight is damaging to the plastics, so do not place pieces near a window to dry. If you are using a water/vinegar mixture, replace it with each cleaning session. After everything is set aside to dry, clean your soaking container again and the surfaces of the space you cleaned in. Bleach wipes, hydrogen peroxide products, and Lysol products are all excellent choices. Next, WASH YOUR HANDS with soap and water. Say the alphabet twice in your head while you scrub your hands. Then get on with your day! Washing your hands at the end of your routine protects you, your family, and your friends.

Hi, Thanks for reaching out! The manufacturer recommends Check air tubing and remove any blockages. Press dial to clear message. Allow sensor to dry and recalibrate and test device. If that does not work they say to replace the mother board. As far as the pressure goes. The machines lose calibration after years of use, there is nothing you can really do about that one. Thank you for asking!! Yes, at times the loss of water in the chamber is due to the mask leaking excessively. I would go to your provider and get a mask refit to make sure you have the correct mask or the one you have fits properly. As far the cold air goes, you can adjust the humidity settings yourself if you were shown. If not while at your provider have them show you how you can adjust the humidity for future reference..

Yes, good question. We'll if you would rather pour purified or distilled water into a bucket or container that may be better for you. But your not going to get all the water out. So after you let it drip dry from a railing or shower rod. I suggest to patient's in my office, don't laugh to go outside and kind of lasso swinging it around to get as much water as able. Also you cold connect the rubber end to the machine and turn machine on and let blow if another suggestion. Hopefully one of those works for you. But yeah you are not going to get all the water out and once you use it is going to accumulate once again.

The SoClean might be a nice option for you as you can connect the cleaner straight into the humidifier. The SoClean can also clean CPAP supplies inside the machine.
@MrMikesMondoVideo Жыл бұрын
DO NOT USE SoClean. Notwithstanding the current lawsuit, no one in this industry should have ever recommended that device or any other like it. It was disturbing enough that providers ever sold these devices, And far more disturbing that they still are. Both UV and ozone will destroy parts in these machines including the sound insulating foam (see the Philips recall). After a period of time those items will break down and you will be breathing into your lungs that particulate matter.

Yes the Airsense 10 is the CPAP and the Aircurve 10 is the BIPAP, just to advise! Not sure have you ran the machine without water in the chamber sometimes that causes it to get stuck. But if you grab the top and bottom of the chamber and wiggle front and back, not up and down. It should dislodge from the machine, let me know if that workes.

Over the last couple of weeks, regardless of a clean tank,hose and mask, and using distilled water, the water becomes cloudy overnight. And there is an reoccurring odour from the air in the mask as well. What would cause this? Thanks for your time!
@Sleeplayground Жыл бұрын
Yeah this is what I found. Because other than that if you weren't using distilled it would be from the calcium deposit I would say. One possibility is mineral deposits from the water you're using. If these deposits aren't cleaned out on a regular basis, they can build up and create a film over the humidifier's water chamber.
@sheldonnorton9035 Жыл бұрын
@@Sleeplayground Thanks for that! I have since done the extra steps of cleaning the accessible area of the machine itself and the removable pathway part I didn’t know about. That seems to have done it. I’m sure it’s not recommended but I use diluted CLR which is of course really thorough.

Is there any way to clean the interior working parts of the AirSense 10? I clean my machine and accessories religiously. Mask, Tube, reservoir, and all the easily accessible surfaces of the machine itself, but I still have a foul odor emanating from the interior working parts of the machine, behind that seal you said was non-removable. Presumably this is where the actual air pump itself is. Is there any way to clean inside there?

Hi, Thank for reaching out! You can wipe around the outlets where the chamber gets pushed in. Also take take out the gasket where the hose connects. I would not recommend pulling it apart and cleaning. Mask, Tubing, Water chamber weekly and check the filters.

How do I clean the inside of the machine e itself
@Sleeplayground Жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for reaching out! CPAP equipment manufacturers recommend regular cleanings. They advise washing out the mask, tubing and CPAP humidifier chamber at least once a week. Rinsing the mask and hose daily is also a good practice that helps keep them clean in the interim. Experts also recommend washing the parts out daily if you are sick.

I have used alcohol wipes to clean my mask and water chamber for over 10 years and never damaged anything. Alcohol can damage some, but not all plastics, will not damage silicone, and is the most common method of cleaning medical grade silicone. You replace cushions every month and everything else in 3 or 6 months anyway, right? Replacement supplies are covered by insurance and medicare, so what is the worry anyway? A lot of advice is given by people that have never owned or used a CPAP machine. The disassembly procedure shown for the machine is good.
@Sleeplayground2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. Not everyone is purchasing their CPAP machine or supplies with insurance so maintenance of these items is important. Our respiratory therapist has been doing his job for 15 years and he is a CPAP user so I am confident he knows what he is talking about.

You distilled water for the reservoir and to clean it; you don't want to use tap water, filtered water or spring water. The minerals deposit will accumulate and create mold faster.

One thing I've been wondering about above & beyond what cleaning tasks were mentioned here is: Does dust build up INSIDE the machine (Airsense10) ? If dust builds up inside, would it be safe to blow some compressed air into all the openings on the unit? Like "Air in a can". I could imagine if one wasn't careful, you could damage something inside, just be careful with it...?
