RESOLVE 17 - NEW WAY TO SYNC TO AUDIO IN FUSION! - DaVinci Resolve 17 New Features Tutorial

Here's something that we've been talking about for a while now: How to Sync to Audio in Fusion!
In the past many of you, myself included, have struggled with being able to sync up fusion graphics with your edit. Not being able to see your audio, or having any indication of when sounds happen, led us to find work-arounds which weren't too friendly.
Well today's a new day!
The new release of Resolve 17 has delivered, and today we'll look at just how well they've implemented audio into Fusion, and maybe even a better way to deal with syncing!

To bring audio into fusion, just add a MediaIN node. It will load the audio from the timeline and it will work as an audio placeholder.

Itll bring up the audio waveforms in Fusion if you 1st make a compound clip in Edit

If you're hell bent on not using markers, you can always just take your fusion comp, right click, and create new fusion clip. You'll have to unlink the MediaIn and MediaOut, which is kinda jank, but hey it's a thing I guess lol

If you use an external audio, davinci is so poor... You can't sync and external audio with video. Forexample, you want to make a music video and sync. with different performances. An album version of song and live performances of the same song. Live performances are in different tempos (that's normal) but you cant match these videos and audio file. No way... Also checked premiere and couldn't find a way. In davinci, I want to move video left / right.. It moves frame by frame... In Vegas, there is a solution for this; disable "Quantize to Frames" I'm using davinci only creating text files ad coloring. Edit page is useless..

That little arrow for MediaIn1 so I can hear the audiowave form isnt there for me! I still can't hear any audio! Why is this even a thing?! It should be easy to hear our audio in the fusion page.. why disable audio in the first place!? I'm so confused!

Go to your timeline view options and make sure that the audio wave forms is selected. If you still can't see it, go down to track height and raise the audio. That worked for me.

Casey, i am really enjoying 17 Beta so far but noticed my renders for my youtube channel don't look as crisp as they did before the new beta. In watching your video today, i noticed the same type of "anomalies" in your screen capture of Resolve. I capture my desktop in OBS with quality set to "indistinguishable." Did something change? Any words of wisdom for improving my render quality? thanks for your videos, by the way! You inspired me to start my channel showing quick tips and tricks for using Reaper!

0:52 ... no I have overlaying picture over part of video feed placing the playhead opens picture and not total videoOUT I only si in videOUT the picture.Plus when I sync graphic to audio and picture ... back in Edit page the audio is out of sync ... any idea what to do ? The music in fusion keyfreame is OUT OF Sync to the music and clip position in EDIT PAGE It was in sync than my Davinci Forceclosed and from that point I did everything it is out of sync in fusion page, deleted recreated pulled data in again it alwazs recreates the composition out of sync to the original EDIT PAGE

This is great - but how do we deal with the audio playback delay in fusion? It's like 1.5 seconds behind consistently.

This is ot. I decided do to full out and ordered the studio. A couple of days later... CRAP. The studio AND speed editor for the same price as the studio. 50% off. Luckily they were accepted a treturn and promised to send the speed editor and studio when they were in stock. Happy days.

In 17.0B BUILD 13 I dropped MediaIn node inside of a clean fusion comp, clicked on the "audio" button (not sure if it was necessary) and sound starts to play

Nope, everything it's included on the free version. Only a few functionalities from fusion aren't present in the free version.

I guess that they will later realize the true advantage if the audio and add audio spectrum effect, audio channels splitter, or even audio reactor for a better use for audio Note: The audio spectrum thing doesn't have to be a plugin based feature more than to be a built in effect, which will make even more popular

Adding a marker while the media is playing will really make it a lot more natural for syncing up Audio and effects

I installed 17 on my windows 7 64x... but its not opening. I tried to rename the opencl.dll file, but still its not working. Can you help me Casey?

Which CPU do you use? My Phenom II wouldn't even run Resolve 16 because of missing AVX command extension. It would also crash silently.

@@FutureChaosTV It's an assembled PC... Intel Core i5 4440... and 16 is running fine in my system... I only have problem with 17. It's actually the same problem which 16 has, which gets resolved after I change the opencl.dll file name... it starts... but if I try the same with 17... its wont open.

I tried downloading the free version, took hours-internet is satellite-to do it, went to unzip it, double clicked on the file_zilch. Not sure if it's my computer, a windows thing or it never actually finished downloading.. Did you have issues like that?
