It's nice to see someone that's just starting out in SQ! I'm sort of in the same boat, there's so much to learn that I don't even know where to start. Any essential "fundamentals" or "basics" references I should look out for? Also, where can I find SQ comps in the northern California (Sacramento) area?

Being in California, you probably have the strongest competition scene out there. Go on facebook and follow the Papasin Sound page. For resources, there are plenty all over the ResoNix Blog on the website :)
