A group of Dutch Asharis, along with their "Ustaadh," made a response video that was filled with strawman arguments, misrepresentations, and false accusations against us. Ironically, they accused us of the same, lying, and "cherry-picking". In this new video series by Ustaadh Ramzan Al-Hanbali , we will address and debunk each of their false claims, this is part 1.

At minute 11:47, I used the wrong cover for Sahih Bukhari (it's Sahih Muslim). Some of the books the Ustaadh used in the video have editions that are not available online. I worked at night on this video and accidentally used the wrong cover. However, everything referenced in the video is from the books the Ustaadh mentions. Baraka Allah feekum.

I dont know how anyone who reads these statements and ahadith could be an ashari. May Allah guide them they took the khalaf over the salaf.

The meaning of Imam Malik's famous statement in light of the early scholars of the madhhab: ‘Abdullah ibn Nafi’ reported: Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about the saying of Allah ta’ala “al-Rahman rose above the Throne,” The man said, “How is istiwaa‘?” Malik said, “al-’istiwaa‘ is acknowledged, its modality is unknown, and asking about it is an innovation. I see you are a man who intended evil with this question.” The teacher of Imam Malik, Rabi’ah ibn Abi ‘Abd al-Rahman (also known as Rabi’ah al-Ra’yy) held this same view as Imam Malik, al-Dhahabi in his al-‘Uluww and ibn Taymiyyah in Fatwa al-Kubra mentions an authentic athar of him saying such: سُئل ربيعة بن أبي عبد الرحمن عن قوله تعالى: {الرَّحْمَنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى} ، كيف استوى؟ قال: الاستواء غير مجهول، والكيف غير معقول، ومن الله الرسالة، وعلى الرسول البلاغ المبين، وعلينا التصديق وهذا الكلام مروي عن مالك بن أنس تلميذ ربيعة من He said: “Rabi’ah ibn Abi ‘Abd al-Rahman was asked about the Almighty’s saying: {The Most Gracious rose over the throne [Taha: 5]} , how was His istiwaa‘? He said: “al-Istiwaa’ is not unknown (ghayr majhul), and the modality is inconceivable/incomprehensible (unknown - ghayr ma’qul). From Allah is the message, and it is upon the messenger to spread the message clearly and it is upon us to affirm it. Ibn Taymiyyah says this speech is narrated om the authority of Malik ibn ’Anas, the student of Rabi’ah. shamela.ws/book/18381/129#p1 Now, the Ashaa’irah and Maturidiyyah reach and do extreme tahrif of this athar, but what did the early Malikiyyah believe? Abu Muhammad ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani affirms in his Risalah that Allah is above the throne with His essence. multiple manuscripts and contemporary references at the time refer to this citation and thus attest it. It's impossible for this to have been an addition as some Ashaa'irah claim: Ibn Hajr al-Haytami mentions ‘Izz al-Din ibn ‘Abd al-Salam was asked about what might've been meant by Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani's statement and whether it was kufr or not, ‘Izz al-Din ibn ‘Abd al-Salam was honest and said the apparent was that he affirmed direction (jihah) for Allah with it and said that his ithbat of jihah doesn't imply kufr, although interestingly enough ibn Hajr mentions some of them disputed this and claimed that his (ibn Abi Zayd) kufr was qat’i, a’udhubillah. Lets move unto Qadi Abu Muhammad ‘Abd al-Wahhab al-Maliki, the great Maliki scholar and a student of al-Baqillani who wrote one of the first shuruh of al-Risalah, agreed with ibn Abi Zayd and he too affirmed Allah was above the throne with His essence; (فوق العرش المجيد بذاتة). Interestingly enough the well-known al-Qurtubi also affirms this view for Qadi ‘Abd al-Wahhab, Ibn Abi Zayd, Ibn ‘Abd il-Barr, Abu ’Umar al-Talamanki, al-Khattabi and even Ibn Fawrak whom is from the mu'tamideen of the Ashaa'irah and one of their early scholars. Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Muwwahib al-Maliki, a student of ibn Abi Zayd explains the statement of his teacher from a linguistic perspective (the meaning in light of the Arabs and their language and that it is ma’ruf) he explains that Allah's exaltedness above the throne is by His essence (not merely by status) distinct from creation, that He's everywhere with His knowledge and not everywhere with His essence contained. Abu ‘Umar al-Talamanki, another student of ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani states in his al-Wusul illaa Ma’rifat al-Usul as mentioned by ibn Taymiyyah that Allah is above the heavens with His essence on His throne as He wills. shamela.ws/book/2864/186#p2 As a last hit from him: al-Qurtubi al-Ash'ari also mentions in his tafsir that none of the Salaf (لا أحد من السلف) believed God wasn't above the throne in reality (حقيقي) and he then quotes the famous narration of Malik on the issue. Ibn Juzayy al-Ash'ari says in his tafsir of the verse that some scholars, including ibn Abi Zayd took this verse upon the dhahir. ﴿ٱستوىٰ على ٱلعرش﴾ حيث وقع حمله قوم على ظاهره منهم ابن أبي زيد وغيره tafsir.app/7/54 Makki ibn Abi Talib another student of Ibn Abi Zayd in his tafsir of the verse "الرحمن على العرش استوى" ("The Most Gracious rose over the throne"), he says istiwaa‘ means irtafa’a and ‘ala. Then he lists three views of the Mufassirun. 1. Abu ‘Ubaydah said: ‘Ala (علا - to ascend, to rise) 2. Ibn Qutaybah al-Qutbi said: استقر (Istiqrar - settledness, settlement over the throne) 3. And some said: Istawla (to subjugate, subjugation/to take over or to conquer the throne) (the view of the Jahmiyyah and some mu’awillah like them) He says the most authentic view is "علا" (indicating the ma’ani are ma’ruf, as you cannot affirm synonyms to words of which their meanings are unknown) and that it's the view of Ahl al-Sunnah and he then ascribes this view to his shaykh Abu Muhammad ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani and on the page after he mentions the narration of Imam Malik on istiwaa‘. (Istiqarra is also a correct meaning of istiwaa’). So the Ashaa'irah cope and demand that we use the shuruh of the Malikiyyah to understand the statement of Malik, although what they actually mean is that we use baseless explanations from the Ash'ari mutta'akhireen among the the Malikiyyah. 6:33 SubhanAllah it’s so clear!. Let’s say it’s a metaphor and that it means Allah will have earth under his control. Does it then not mean that Allah did not always have it under control? It’s "on that day". What abt before that? The earth was just floating without anyone controlling it? No rather it’s literal Ustadh, if i’m wrong just correct me 😅

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. There are a few mistakes the brother fell into that needs to be addressed, I hope this can be forwarded to him in sha allah. At 6:25 he quotes a hadith where it is said that Allah will grip the earth, he then proceeded to clench his hand in the manner that he did. And at 14:34 he quotes the hadith where Allah will place the creation on his fingers, the brother then proceeded to extend his fingers either out of demonstration mistakenly or counting, whatever the case, he shouldn’t as it could come across as likening Allah to the creation. I remembered what I had read of ibn uthaymeens sharh of arba’een an-nawawiyyah He said whilst speaking about the names and attributes of Allah: وجاء اخرون فقالوا: قلوب بني آدم بين أصبعين من اصابع الرحمن، وأمسك المسواك وقال: بين أصبعين من اصابع الرحمن. [قطع الله هاتين الاصبعين]. فهل يحل هذا؟ الجواب لا يحل. اولا: هل تعلم ان اصابع الله تعالى خمسة؟ يقول آخرون في قول الله تعالى (والأرض جميعا قبضته يوم القيامة) فيشير بيده قابضا على شيء - أعوذ بالله فعلى كل حال أكرر: احذروا في باب الصفات أن تخوضوا في شيء لم يتكلم فيه السلف الصالح. ص/٤٨،٤٩ Although the first example of the sheikh isn’t exactly what the brother did, however I’m highlighting the danger in giving physical demonstrations of Allahs actions.

I hope the brother takes this advice for the sake of Allah, rectifies and clarifies his mistake. I know he wouldn’t intentionally intend to liken allah to his creation subhanallah, however it’s obvious he fell into this mistake unknowingly and it’s upon us to address it for his benefit and so others don’t fall into it. May allah forgive us and make us sincere.

Wa aleikum assalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh akhil faadil! May Allah reward and bless you. With regards to these two gestures, the qabd of the hand while reciting that specific verse was narrated by the prophet sallAllaahu aleihi wa sallam. So following his example, it is allowed to do so on the condition that tamtheel or tashbish is not intended. With regards to the gesture with the fingers when reciting the hadith of Bukhari, then the evidence for this is the iqraar of the prophet when the jewish rabbi did this. What imam ibn Uthaymeen is talking about is doing these types of gestures when the prophet has not done them, or if there is a danger of people misunderstanding it to be tashbih. So to summarize: making gestures is only allowed IF the prophet did it or the sahaabah and if there is no risk of people misunderstanding it. One could say that doing it in a public video as this one could lead to misunderstanding, but I have repeated numerous times that we do not compare Allahs attributes with His creation. However I didn’t see in the hadith of the rabbi any indication of gesturing with the fingers. I understand and accept what you’ve said. The scholars have mentioned one should only gesture depending on the audience he’s speaking to. personally I would refrain from doing it as common people are able to come across this video and possibly be confused. May Allah reward you and keep you steadfast. Wa alaikum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

It’s authenticity is indeed disputed, its weakness seems to be the opinion of most scholars. Those same words from Rabee’ah and Malik are authentic however. BaarakAllaahu feek

Whether or not you said this (or even whether or not the clip is a clip of you) is not clear since your the voice in the clip was hard to detect. I request that you clarify this to us so this issue can be addressed, barak Allahu feek.

This is brother One Dawah’s innovation (im kidding) With regards to that issue, I’ve never called ibn Hajr a jahmi. Its not even in that clip. Sadly these are the tactics the ashairah have to use to spread their deviance. @masonjar9751 - tafwid leaves door open to tahrif, both are forms of denial of Attributes with no evidence like the Qadriya you follow for foreign bias. Nothing is equal to Allah, so repent.

Quran 67. 15. Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall. 16. And the heaven will be rent asunder, for that Day it (the heaven) will be frail and torn up. 17. And the angels will be on its sides, **and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them.** 18. That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. Quran 2.210. Do they then wait for anything other than that Allah should come to them in the shadows of the clouds and the angels? (Then) the case would be already judged. And to Allah return all matters (for decision). Quran 6. 158. Do they then wait for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord (Allah) should come, or that some of the Signs of your Lord should come (i.e. portents of the Hour e.g., rising of the sun from the west)! The day that some of the Signs of your Lord do come, no good will it do to a person to believe then, if he believed not before, nor earned good (by performing deeds of righteousness) through his Faith. Say: "Wait you! we (too) are waiting."
