I don't know why people complain about opinions. Hockey isn't a religion that supposedly deals in absolute fact. It's one person's educated guess. It's easy to dump on something anonymously from behind a computer screen. If someone else has another opinion, they can state it. But getting all upset about a Power Ranking or a Mock Draft, which is fraught with subjectivity, is a bit silly. But hey, if it's entertaining, gets people talking and gets you ad revenue so you can make a living, everyone wins.

@HexagonalMan65 ай бұрын
And both of them have taken time to develop; Slafkvosky went from a 20 point pace last year to a 50 point season this year, and Shane Wright looked a lot better this year in the NHL games he played than last year. With centers, there is the thing that you basically have to draft your 1C and 2C. With D-men, the thing is that you can still draft good ones later in the draft. With goalies, it feels like you really should draft one in the top 100 every year.

If people complain with who their team drafts even if they are a highly regarded prospect, there is no way to win with them for mock drafts that don't mean anything. I wish people could just enjoy the speculation!
@benoitrobitaille52355 ай бұрын
I respectfully disagree, even if you pick a potentially better prospect defenseman, despite having enough already, you still end up with too many defensemen and gotta trade someone in the end. In the case of Montreal, there is already way way too many defensemen/defensive prospects so much so that trades are already needed, even before a potentially better D prospect can be taken at #5.

SJ fan here. Obviously Celebrini is going #1. As for pick #14, I’d like Solberg. For pick 33, I’d like Ej Emery hoping that he’s still there. If not I’m a fan of Dominik Badinka. Both D men are right handed shots which is sought after in the NHL. Nothing less, I’m excited going forward.
@adamn77775 ай бұрын
This draft in particular seems like the hardest one to predict with everything after Celebrini seemingly like a crapshoot. A lot seems to hinge on what direction Chicago goes with their pick as that can set off a chain reaction of picks and it seems to boil down to 2 guys they're choosing between, Demidov or Levshunov, so any mock draft is gonna go in wildly different directions based on what happens with Chicago and you had to pick one. I think they'd lean D this time because next year's draft is thin on D but rich on forwards but also they're probably not too keen to have the core of their offense coming from 2 sub 6 feet tall but I can see why you'd argue they take Demidov.
@GizmoBeach5 ай бұрын
I’ll throw in a sweetener: Buffalo gets SJ’s 1st pick, they get Clague AND a 2nd RD choice from Belarus. Eh, eh? 🤗 After Celebrini, it’s anyone’s guess. And whoever your team picks, will be second guessed to death until they produce serious results.

Mentioned in the video but the 2018 draft talking about Centers going higher than expected was a really good point. Barrett Hayton is fine, but prob not looking like a top 5 pick at this point. And so far he has panned out as the best center at that draft position until you reach down to like Velano at the end of the 1st or Drury in the 2nd. Just doesn't seem like a very good year for Centers. But if those guys just took best player available, there was a string of amazing defenseman in that top 10 range (Quinn Hughes, Dobson, and Bouchard.) Maybe Montreal in that same draft picked Kotkenami over Brady Tkachuk for the same reason.

Seems weird to jump all over someone for a "Mock Draft", as if there aren't 32 NHL GMs out there that have their own unique lists of what order they think guys are going to go in. Has there never been a draft where a team with the next pick has to quickly debate who they're taking because someone they thought would be gone was still available, or the guy they wanted was already taken earlier than they speculated? One guy, or even a handful of guys, are never going to be able to predict what 32 GMs & their respective group of scouts are going to do when it's their turn at the draft.

My only feedback is that I doubt Iginla lasts long enough to get grabbed by Calgary unless the Flames find a way to move up. @bradsmith48205 ай бұрын
I liked seeing your list, because it was kinda fresh and unique, but as a Flyers fan idk how you can take a right winger when you need defenders and centers. Even if we do end up trading TK we have Tippett, Foerster who has become a rookie to look out for and Hathway to fill the bottom 6 pairing. Drafting a right winger just pointless when we could draft a big defensemen like Yakemchuck to fill in the much needed D spaces or a decent centerman that could pair well with Michkov.

I think it's neat the ideal of a mock draft.. but I never have seen one even reach the 10th pick. Hell, then there are years like 2 years ago when Wright was the consensus #1 and he went 4th.. I'm also not good a knowing what teams are looking for or how they rate certain players then you get the trades that can really change the rules. I agree with scorecards.. call it 5 and 10 years in.. not a few minutes. You just have to look at the star players from late rounds to know that you can never tell.. (not to mention the busts)..

Most drafts the best player available is someone's opinion of who they like from the players available. Outside of the first overall pick (even that if you remember Wright) the gap between picks is not great. So at pick 10 your selection may be someone's 5 and another's 14, So the best player available can actually be the one that fills a gap in a team's prospect pool.
