Working out how to signal to police that you are not the threat is a recurring issue. In the shown video it was best case as LEOs already made contact with the civilians that provided aid. Things get dicey if responding LEOs are not immediately aware of civilian support. The unfortunate shooting of Johnny Hurley in Arvada Colorado(2021) who ended a mass shooting spree by responding police exemplifies how sketchy initial contact can be between parties that would be in support of each other if they both knew of each other.
@alexjacobs8399
@alexjacobs8399 9 ай бұрын
@sacced is spot on! The incident shown is about the best scenario that could have been. You have a single, identified shooter in a contained position. The responding officers are aware of who's are the good guys (neighbors). But in just about any other situation - a shopping mall, gas station - a man or woman with a gun is not identifiable. Question: how does one identify oneself as a good guy/gal?

@@iceberg0311 as a cop do you actively refuse to carry out unconstitutional orders? If not you're not a cop or veteran I would want to associate with. Your anecdotal experience and opinion on character mean nothing. When we have cops that act like they're entering an enemy territory and are more concerned with their "safety" than the Rights of the people, there's a problem... Oh and I'm a Marine vet as well. This boils down to a principles and values problem. Zero accountability for law enforcement. If they want to act like military police I think the UCMJ should apply.

@@gridtac2911 I replied, but I don't know what happened to it. I haven't had the opportunity, but I absolutely would refuse unconstitutional orders; Not sure why you're acting like I wouldn't. My anecdotal experience and opinion mean just as much as the OP's, but on a similar note, I don't have to rely on anecdote to point out that he's making a statement that impugns an entire group of people and THAT is something for which anecdote is not sufficient. Those cops you're talking about are statistically small in number. The principles and values to which cops are held are determined by the people who live where those cops are employed. So no, there's not zero accountability for law enforcement on the whole because it's not true where I live. Also, I fully support criminal and civil consequences for cops and departments when rights are violated when appropriate. Our rights, protected by the Constitution and given by God, are supreme.

Totally feel where you’re coming from brother! And your comment after this one is spot on! What I’m saying here isn’t directed anywhere but relevant because so many are in the “few resources, little xtra money” category. I don’t hear anyone cover the reality of a lot of this. That reality is a lot of people ALOT as in way more than you’d believe, have a hero complex mentality when it comes to this space. The Truth is most think they’re an asset but haven’t got past the how not to be a liability part. The not cool part. EDC is important. A sidearm helps a lot of defensive situations. Most won’t encounter it. Few carry essentials for situations they’re likely to encounter. Med bag essentials, xtra water for 3-4 people. Food for 12-24 hours and essential clothes, Warmer jacket and boots. Most people prepare based on “I can swing into gas station and get water but not my gun attitude” I get it! What I’m saying is if things are bad past 12 hrs 99.9% of people are a liability and not an asset. So even with zero extra money and resources, what 99.9% CAN do is work on not being a liability first. The things to just take care of and defend YOUR 10’ circle. Then when they have that down 95% worry about the rest! That’s my take on it. And Gif Bless you brother! Be safe

9:18 I can shed some light on why the deputy is asking seemingly dumb questions. For context, this event took place in the state of Washington and I am also a LEO in Washington. Threatening to kill someone in Washington is a crime called felony harassment. An element of the crime is the victim needs to feel fear that the suspect would actually carry out the threat. Even though it's obvious, you should never assume and ask the question so the victims response is recorded. This lessens the chance some defense lawyer will get the suspect off on a technicality because the victim never actually said they believed the suspect would carry out their threats.

The old adage; “better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it”, or as Mike says, Be Prepared. It’s all a balancing act, but the “community” concept puts that balance in your favor, squads, platoons, take your pick, you might not be carrying it but some one else will be, same for families inside the community with regards to kit. Stand together, know and trust each other. They trained us all to live this way, go with it. Be Safe Out There

This is a special time A time our country has never experienced We don’t have twenty years of veterans. We get that every twenty years What we do have is 20 years of COMBAT veterans Extremely capable individuals They should not be pushed aside or devalued I served for ten years Deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan Had the privilege to get some basic training from the SF while stationed at Ft Carson There are so many with knowledge and capabilities above me within our country Probably in your town city possibly your neighbors We don’t want to fight but damn if we don’t know how

I have been inside the survivalist/'prepper' sphere since the 1980's, while inside the Marine Corps and out. I will pass on the most important lesson that I have learned: When dealing with Skeptics (capitalization intentional), the first and most vital truth is that the Skeptic has to be right every single time...but the 'prepper' only needs to be right once. That is as true in 'every day carry' as it is when "Apocalypse X" drops.

These citizens are awesome. And since you mentioned Mark Lamb I'll say this and def stand behind it...every town in this country would be much safer and people would be much nicer to the cops with a man like that in charge. Not only is he just an overall badass but more importantly he is fair, caring and he empowers and inspiring the officers that work for him. If youre reading rhis and you do not know who he is you should google him and check out some of the KZbin videos he is in. As always Mike, thanks for all you do.

Sarcasm alert: But we are merely non-professionals without the blessing of the overlords. All jokes aside, having many interactions with my local LEO’s, it’s easy to see that those still in it had this dream as a kid an not much more. Proficiency is limited to a service pistol, and not even strong with that. No time to train because of less than 60% staffed. Never carry when off duty. Generally overweight and underpaid. It’s a shame!
