It's the end of Club Penguin's fan revival, Club Penguin Rewritten. Disney has asked the admins of the game to shut everything down. Police are now investigating Rewritten. This is a disappointing blow in efforts to keep Club Penguin alive, leaving little hope for the future.
When Disney decided to shut down Club Penguin back in 2017, fans came forward to reveal CLUB PENGUIN REWRITTEN, which faithfully recreated a golden era of the game. Millions of users joined as the years went on, but it looks like Disney isn't interested in ignoring Club Penguin Rewritten any longer. What happens now? Will we ever see Club Penguin return?

Me too. I never got to experience club penguin before.... rewritten was my first time,and it was really cool. My first party was the noir party from last year in March. It's what got me playing,but I eventually stopped. Disney. You own the rights to this ip. But you've done nothing with it for years,and fans just want their old times with them again. Just saying that it's yours is just like a toddler arguing not giving sharing their toys to others;childish. You people at Disney up there may refuse to listen to us little people,but we just wanted a way to have our nostalgia,that you gave us. I read somewhere that the nature of CPR changed, that the devs got “greedy”. They added optional ads for items/ coins. Heard they even bought a house with their ad revenue. That is naturally wrong as it’s not their license to profit off of- let alone bank on it. I mean Disney has waited until they added the optional ads to take severe action. Overall, I believe the devs greed ruined it for everyone.

I’m honestly going to miss Club Penguin Rewritten. You know, I started playing Club Penguin way back in mid-2011, and after it was shut down in 2017, I was happy to see it come back in the form of Club Penguin Rewritten. My childhood had finally come back from the dead. The free membership was also nice. When we were locked inside in 2020, Club Penguin Rewritten was there for me and brought me joy during dark times, especially since they still did April Fools’ parties. But nothing can last forever, and it was only a matter of time before Disney shut Club Penguin Rewritten down. It’s been five years since the original Club Penguin shut down, and I would just like to say thank you to the Club Penguin Rewritten dev team for bringing everyone’s childhoods back.

The CPR devs/mods got greedy. They decided to put ads into the game. Ads = revenue, revenue from a property they do not own. Toon Town Rewritten is still alive and well.

The worst part is that CPR contains original assets and the entire HTML5 codebase was written specifically by CPR staff. Disney may own the IP, but they can't claim rights to the code or the custom items designed by the CPR team. This is definitely grounds for a legal battle, and I really hope CPR has the resources to go up to bat for it. Disney shouldn't be able to get away with this. It sets a dangerous precedent for abandonware and internet preservation projects as a whole.

I've been a member of this amazing community for 2 1/2 years and seeing it go honestly really sucks. I would spend hours grinding gold in the mines, finding secrets in the catalogs, using CPR Cheats discord to find mascots, and do everything I could in their monthly parties (yes just like the OG they did a party every single month). But if you played the game you know exactly why it got shutdown, Rockhopper's Treasures. Basically if you watched an ad (which gives the team money) you get accessories for your penguin.

I’m sorry for saying this, but I think the reason why “Club Penguin” will never come back might be because Bob Iger, the former CEO of Disney back in 2019, said “We’re good at making movies and television shows and theme parks and cruise ships and the like. We’ve just never managed to demonstrate much skill on the publishing side of games.” Yeah, they’re not interested in making games anymore, ever since the failure of “Disney Infinity” and the shut down of Disney Interactive. That and Flash died back in the end of 2020. Even though cartoons are still animated with Flash (now known as Adobe Animate), games made by Flash are forever gone. Think about that before you sleep.

I mean.. just to toss this out here. Blizzard entertainment shut down (copyrighted) a world of warcraft private server which was widely popular because it recreated the game before the release of its first expansion so it had a huge population of original players.. and this was shut down yeeears after it launched. I bring this up, because after it had shut down.. blizzard stayed quiet as to why they suddenly decided to shut down this private server. Until a few months later, they came out and announced "World of Warcraft: Classic" basically giving the players the same exact thing that they took away. Its a huge maybe.. but possibly we might see club penguin return.

Unfortunately, the devs added ads into the site, where there was a feature added where you could watch an ad to get in game rewards, so by now suddenly gaining a profit off of Disney's properties, that probably put them on Disney's watch. Compare it to toontown rewritten, also originally from Disney, but they don't run ads and are still up and running.

@@TheWandererGhost it's very likely. Toontown rewritten pays for its servers out of pocket, and removed the Disney character NPCS (like Mickey and Donald etc) and haven't had any heat from Disney. It's also been said that the team investigating usually investigated illegal advertising so we have to wait and see 😔

RIP club penguin. You were a huge part of my childhood. I will always remember you, and all the fun I had. I will always remember the three puffles I had, one rainbow, one purple, and one blue. I will always remember all of my favorite hangout places. The pizzeria, the spy area, the card jitsu area, and the clubhouse. maybe I will try to make the cards from the card jitsu game. Maybe I will make a board game of the snow card jitsu game. I KNOW I'm going to draw something to commemorate club penguin. I won't lose hope, though. Maybe the reason Disney is doing this is to bring back the game themself so they can make money. Kinda a jerk move, but as long as club penguin lives, I don't care. Maybe I can get one of the DS games that have all the spy missions on them. My mom and I loved to do those together. I know there are club penguin books, so I might get some of those. I know there are plushies, too. I have a few puffles, but I might want to get Gary. He was my favorite penguin character. But I know the club penguin community will try to remember and love the game in any way we can. with merch, with art, with love, we will try to remember club penguin, and everything it did for us. It is extremely saddening to see it being shut down, but honestly the creators are at fault for this demise. Toontown rewritten has been running for almost a decade with no problems. CPR creators got greedy and often didnt hide that they was using ad money for themselves.

I started playing this wayyy back in 2017. I showed it to my siblings, etc. Sometime after Club penguins online shut down, I was worried rewritten would be next. That day never came. I had a routine of logging in on Club Penguin Rewritten every year for Halloween since the original Club Penguin shut down. The festivities, treasure hunt and overall atmosphere was sooo nostalgic that every year on this special night I would log in and waddle around, reminiscing my childhood. Today is the 31st of October and I tried searching the page and I came across this. My heart's really aching right now :( Club Penguin and all the players truly deserved better.

Wow, didn't know till today it was still active...I had thought disney had already shut down the fan efforts a little ways back, before the pandemic came about... I recall hearing something either 2018 or 2019 about disney forcing them to shut it down. I haven't played the rewritten in a while (maybe 2017ish). I felt sad when I thought it had previously shut the fan attempts to revive it down. I guess I could have played it still after all... well until now.😢

Disney shut rewritten down because they were giving out a shirt you could only get by donating 1 dollar to them which was illegal bc they were making money for in game things. They got shut down this time be ause they had items you could only get from watching ads which is also illegal bc it's also profitting from in game things they did not make. Also they got warned 2 times before if they didn't have ads they'd be ok plus they didn't even use all the money for servers they bought a house and stuff it was in their discord and someone said bragged about buying nintendo switch in the discord too but i didnt see the nintendo switch one.

I remeber when I joined Club Penguin Rewritten in 2019. I wanted to experience the original and I was not disappointed. The game was amazing and I had a good time. The closure made me feel the same way I felt when the original shut down. Now there is an empty void in my heart that may never be filled again. RIP Club Penguin Rewritten and Waddle on.

They've been "headed down the wrong road" since they started being a two-faced, corporate greed-driven, faux monopoly company that tries to make every possible social, political, generational, and fan group just happy enough to make a decent amount of money off of all of them while tricking most of the leaders and members of each one into thinking they actually care about them until the moment said group's usefulness and exploitability is put into question - then they turn around, and run to the "next big thing". They've been doing it since the late 1980s, with the time between then and Walt Disney's death being a transitional period for the company in which they went from being a large company owned and overseen by one man who actually cared about people and keeping as many people as happy as possible while still making a profit to the absolute farce of a company they are today. Disney is the Electronic Arts of their main industry - they buy franchises or make them, and then either make them so good people are distraught when the executives in the blue and white castle decide to rip them away from them, or give the already-beloved intellectual property over to a random political activist with no talent who decides to destroy the legacy of the entire franchise for the sake of making it more "inclusive" or "modernized", while at the same time quietly sweeping the times when they weren't so inclusive of others (Like a certain Mr. Boyega) under the the figurative rug.

Both of my kids grew up on the original Club Penguin and they never liked the new one. Then they stopped for a while and then wanted to come back - only to realize that the classic one had been shut down. Luckily, we were not alone and we found the Club Penguin Rewritten, which gave my kids the ability to enjoy the game once more, alas without any updates of the game. Now we see that even that is taken away. Generosity is the most expensive thing in this calculating world.

i woke up to this news at 6am and i cant believe it but i shed a tear ive been on rewritten since nov 2017 and i had so much progress and neat stuff. AND MY PUFFLES MAN, MY PUFFLESSSS!!!!!! i looked at new club penguin's discord and it was the talk of the town for 3 hours. we all were confused and making theories and everyone was nice and we all engaged in the topic together. i was the one asking the dumbest questions of course and people were still nice enough to help me understand. lots of people went to newcp after that. logged into my cpr account one last time and that was just a sad experience :'( but lets all just be happy that club penguin rewritten happened. waddle on
