I will never forget the day Sogyal Rinpoche complete dissolved into body of white and golden light. Not only witnessed by myself. I asked the others if they saw the same thing. They did. It was a great shock to this young science student, and life changing at the pivotal moment back in 1991. He was not an ordinary being.

These are relatove truth. The dharma deals with only the ultimate truth. And you shouldnt let love have autbority over you. It makes you delusional like now. Accept only the dharma the ultimate truth. That itself contains the highest love, wisdom and compassion.

I do love Rinpoche. He did change my life. Still at the same time I acknowledge the harm he has done and trust the testimonies of the victims. It all makes me very sad and I pray that he quietly did ask for forgiveness in his last days as he always taught us to do. To me he is now a great teaching about how great spiritual qualities can coexist with the dark side as long as one has not fully integrated the nature of mind into the post meditative state. I feel so sorry that maybe through his own traumas he was so misguided. May he come back as a true student of dharma again.

Nope, Sogyal never dragged up anybody in front of a crowd to tell them how bad they are. He dragged them up in front of the crowd to tell them what f-- up they had done. I agree that firstly at times the harshness sometimes didn't really help to give the person a constructive learning experience. But he never EVER told anyone "you are a bad/hopeless/stupid person" . I think it's time that you acknowledge for yourself that in SR's case you are not objective. Plus, you are now literally beating a dead horse. And that is your problem, not Sogyal's.

petrairene and Rigpa people are the sort who ignore the cries for help from their friends when they were physically and/or sexually abused by the person they trusted most. Nice group of people you’re associating with, I just hope no one makes the mistake of going to them for help in the future.

How do you want to know, when only a really TINY minority of all people within Rigpa have ever been confronted with cries for help of this kind? You have probably been told 2923898 times already, the so called lama household had zero to do with the wider sangha. The vast majority of people in Rigpa haven't even met or known these folks. Under this circumstance, why should victims aproach some random normal sangha member attendee at some event or center. That other inner circle members didn' help is a nasty aspect of group dynamic. Victims of workplace bullying or of domestic abuse sometimes have the same problems to find an open ear within the circle where the abusive behaviour is happening.

Sorry having to correct you but SL DID drag people in front of the crowd to tell them how stupid they were. Maybe you weren't around enough or not long enough, maybe you'll find someone to tell you about "Silly Lily", for instance

@@elfiesommer7627 The cases I witnessed were always about specific things these people had done badly, mostly while organising the event etc. So what I saw was afaik. legitimate critizism. A problem there was that firstly he or Rigpa put unsuited people in those positions so they were set up to fail and secondly the pressure from SL caused a lot of what went wrong. A lot of the people I knew in Rigpa in positions needed some toe stepping in my opinion. In that respect SL was quite right. He just went about it in a totally wrong and contraproductive way.

"the belief system is not reality" thats one step towards realisation of empitness. May be Sogyal did act out the way he did in order to help people like her. The Buddha said "deal with students according to their quality, according to their character" so master may shout at you, kill infront of you, abuse you emotionally, sexually, financially in order to jolt you out of your fixed view. You are lucky to meet him. But as christians says: faith move mountains

Errr, lots of lamas pass away not in a meditation posture!!!! The 3rd Neten Chokling Rinpoche died in a car accident with a skull fracture. Do you think he was in a meditation posture? The same with the previous Kongtrul Rinpoche and many others, yet they were embalmed according to their tradition and placed in a meditation posture and cremated this way. Do you think they would be placed into the cremation stupa in a seated or supine position? Even though they may have been laid out on a bed, they would still be in a state of tukdam! Please wise up and do some research before hitting the old record button in future!

@@petrairene whatever the reason. Our center celebrated his death with great joy. But Garchen Rinpoche also advised us to chant Aspiration for good conduct for Sogyal Rinpoche to purify his bad karma and gain a good rebirth.

Vajrayana is often called Tibetan Buddhism, because it is Tibetans who upheld that part of Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings when they more or less disappeared from India. For centuries lineages of different teachings were often kept quite separate due to enormous geographical distances. A master could concentrate in practicing one teaching, for example lojong, all their life. They did not create an institution or cult but upheld compassion and wisdom as true guides for beings. Whoever is tarnishing Vajrayana as it is now disgraced by Tibetan lamas should be brought down. I am not going to leave Vajrayana or start calling myself Christan again because of Tibetan institutions are crumbling down. Christian institutions shake as well, very badly in fact. What is important is to courageously follow your heart to find true wisdom, compassion and love and then practice that.

don't forget dispassion, dhp-"dispassion is the greatest of all attributes" you are tossled because compassion is just another passion, used to make merit but useless to achieve enlightenment.

@@AniSherab dispassion would maybe be like a personal emptiness--such that all the dramas of the world will not effect you. You could see a picture of a child eaten by wolves in their crib, and feel nothing, no stirring of emotion. so it is much different than compassion which is based on duality and a belief that suffering truly exists. i guess thats enough of it for a comment.

He was mostly quite lovely in public and in private he spent his days bashing people, psychologically abusing them, sexually abusing them and financially abusing them. He kept this up for 40 years. But do go on and tell us how great he was or even better explain it to a room full of children and see how that goes down.

I AM GPGM so full disclosure, I know Tahlia personally and I know many of the victims personally. Tahlia has never claimed to be a victim and nor is she making any money out of this book, which by the way I am finding is well written, calm, honest and unflinching. Sogyal’s behaviour is reprehensible at best and if other teachers are unable to even say that it was wrong is really just a stain on the buddhadharma. I was a student of his, not now, I’m not even Buddhist anymore. He did awful things and people pointed it out and apparently they’re the bad guys. It’s sad people are so afraid of the lamas that they dare not have a thought of their own. I’ve lived like that, I much prefer making my own mind up now. We wouldn’t accept this behaviour in any other context, so I say, if you’re confused take some time out and think about it all carefully.

Veronique Hogervorst I think it’s clear you haven’t read her book nor really understand either the things Sogyal did or Tahlia’s position on it all. I suggest you read her book so you know why so many people are upset. You know all those compassion practices are for opening your heart, and if it becomes hard, just know that Tahlia has created a space where you can go without judgement for support and understanding.

Veronique Hogervorst a lot of people are still grateful for his teachings when it was direct Buddha dharma but if you read the silkin report and concluded it was just gossip, that’s kind of horrifying. Tahlia’s book contains first and second hand accounts of what he was like and it’s abhorrent. If you can’t recognise that then you should know that you’ve lost the ability to discern harm from kindness. I feel sorry for you, I know why you are like that, because I was too for a while. I hope you feel the sun one day, free of these constraints. It’s lovely out here, and we’ll look after you if you make it out.

@@veroniquehogervorst5186 I wasn't completely disillusioned, because I'd already left Rigpa and Tibetan Buddhism and Buddhism in general, 5 years earlier. But thank you for your amazing insights into my mental processes during this "difficult" time. Nice to know your experiences are more important than the suffering of others at the hand of SR. But that response is fairly common amongst Rigpa people, as long as you had a nice time it doesn't matter what other people went through. Yay Bodhicitta Training, so much effort, so little result.
