5:28 You no longer have to edit .lua files manually in DCS. Eagle Dynamics silently added the _OFF binds last year and somehow most people still don't know they exist. They're also great for adding secondary functions to switches. Some ideas: - Trigger off and pickle off for guncam screenshots - Pilot salute in the left hand pinky toggle switch - In the Hornet, A/A mode for button down and LDDI OSB 18 for button up to prevent FLIR from automatically coming up on the left DDI (thanks to CptPickguard for this; ED also needs to fix this FFS)

That's pretty much what I just said --ED and third-party developers put the code in there for us and it generally falls under the special category. However , not all aircraft control settings have it optimized from my experience but it's nice that they are improving it. There's still a few things to improve.

@@AIRWARFAREGROUP No, that's not what I said. You absolutely do not need those "special" and "else" binds anymore. Go bind a button and after pressing it, check the dropdown box. for each BTNX entry, you have a corresponding BTNX_OFF one. It works for every aircraft.

Cool video Juice. I'm ordering the winwing metal HOTAS and throttles this week. Have been using the same TM warthog throttles for several years. Have a Virpil warbid base and TM F18 stick. I'm upgrading all my flight perifals. Going to keep the old stuff around. I ditched the old TM warthog base a while back ( in the closet). At least I received my tracking number from MFG! lol. Good review on the throttles and the winwing throttles and new base will mount directly to my Foxxmounts woohoo lol

If anyone is looking for a new throttle do consider Virpil too. I owned all of them. The downside to the Orion base is that many buttons etc. are too close to the actual throttle. As an example if you have bound the switch marked as landing gear to that action and are taking off (full throttle), you can’t aces this switch. Also look at the red button in the middle of the base, it’s beneath the throttle grip and somewhat hard to find.

@@Dyson_Cyberdynesystems I just wanted to point out that the number of buttons and switches are dependent on the position of the throttle. Another example would be the wing fold rotary, it’s impossible to turn if you’re near full throttle. If I were in the market for a new throttle I would look into VKB too which seems to have a more modular design.

I have the Warthog and used to create scripts in TM‘s Target software, but DCS now supports button off in the UI when configuring controls. Scroll for the button off entry in the drop-down instead of the button.

Yeah that's great, but the it's still finicky. The Winwing's versatility really shines on how it handles axis'. It will simulate both the axis and progressive buttons simultaneously. And it will let encoders act like axis too. The software isn't nearly as much of a pain as TARGET is. It makes dealing with different module limitations much easier.

I have the same TM Warthog base and HOTAS, but i was wondering what the winwing base compatibility is like with TM sticks? I believe they use to do an adaptor but not anymore? I have 3 sticks, the TM A-10/F16 stick, the TM F-18 stick and the Virpil F-14 stick. I mainly fly the F-14, so don't want to give up that stick!

I considered keeping the TM stick grip to put on an extra WW base for F-16 with force sensitivity but was reminded that this would not work because of the mating collar. Perhaps with a custom extension it would work but it defeats my purpose of recreating a Viper feel for side stick control.

Moved from a 10 year old warthog hotas to the Orion with the f18 throttle and the f16ex stick last year. It is so much better, even airrefueling is easy now. I should have done it many years ago.

Generally the more the product costs the less accesories you get. If they wouldn't be sold separately the price of the product would be higher and for most people they would be sitting collecting dust. On top of that the default cams/springs are perfect for flight sims, which is their primary target market.

It's almost never in stock, but yes, they do. My main use case is warbirds and early jets, so I haven't been terribly interested in going with a force sensing base.

Me? NO cash!! TM Warthog Throttle, AVA Base with Warthog Stick and Virpil Control Panel #2 (brilliant!) and VKB Pedals. It's taken 4 years to amass that lot and I'm good with it. I know the TM Throttle's buttons are a BIT of a PITA but the CP#2 gets around that. All that said, I'd be more than happy to test someone's products for them if they feel the need!! 😉👍👍👍

I have a WinWing Orion 2 and it has a three-position switch for autopilot. Path, Alt/HGD, and Alt. Problem is, the control binding screen only accepts a single button input even though it says it is for a 3-position switch. How can I bind this switch to work for 3 positions? Module is A10-CII.

You should see bindings available for the 3 separate positions in the list. The one you are looking at is more of a toggle between the three. This is a common feature in all modules where they are accomodating for those that don't have three position switched on their HOTAS to use. But the THREE positions should be in the list as separate bindable options for each of your switches three positions.

Juice, let me know if your finger lift kit (FLK) rear adjustable piece snaps off. Mine lasted about a week. The piece you lift past to go into cutoff. FLK has three adjustable moving pieces, the rear is fragile.

Hi I've had 2 of the Orion 2 Throttle bases for over a year now one for the F-16 so doesn't count on this issue and one with the F-15EX throttles and I know of a few in my DCS Flight school that have had them since launch not one of us has had the finger lift catches break. I think you either had a bad one or as mentioned it's been overtightened and cracked. The small bolts for the detents only need to be just over finger tight.

That Winwing throttle looks insanely good! I just upgraded my GTX 1060 to a 4070, and will be needing to focus my funds on photography gear as I am entering the second year of my Commercial Photography degree in the fall, so it may be quite a while until I can upgrade from my Logitech 3d Extreme lol. But when the time comes I will definitely be choosing Winwing or Virpil over what Thrustmaster has to offer. When I was a kid in the 90s there was nothing better than TM but today that has changed and there are so many nice grips and throttles available now. BTW Are you in the PNW as well?

Pro tip: set the deadzones to 1, apart from the TDC that needs 2 after a couple of months. For some reason they are really high from factory.

Amen to that brother and thank you. Yes, I am trying to get the throttle dialed in for the after burner zone at the right level and it was easy when I used the curves on the warthog in the old days. I tried the same numbers on the Orion throttle and it did not work. Let me know if you find someone posted a set of settings.

Unfortunately this Orion has many buttons highly redundant with the PA2 of the same Winwing because it came before it. In comparison and for people flying mostly the A10CII, the warthog is really perfectly adapted and labeled. Coupled with the new AVA base for the stick that solves quite all problems of the former base it still makes a not perfect but reasonable cost effectiveness solution HOTAS. Using it from years and after considering moving to a whole new Winwing bundle, I finally decided investing in the AVA base and a Winwing PA2 in place of loosing probably more that half of my initial investment by selling it 2nd hand.

Remember the limitations of the TM WH...not all switches work both ways....and there's a huge lack of used real-estate there. But, for those guys only, limiting themselves to just A-10C, it's perfect. Unfortunately, of hundreds of guys and gals I know that fly DCS, it's not the case. But hats off to the sole Hawg pilot dedicating himself/herself to the CAS mission! The AVA addition was a great move for TM. But for people going to upgrade from stone-aged sticks/throttles sub-WH, the Orion blows the TM stick/throttle out of the water. Especially when we consider most guys don't just fly A-10C or for that consideration, only DCS. The Orion 2 throttle is the best all-around controller for someone jumping up from that Saitek, Logitech, or T160000 type controllers. And for those guys with Atari sticks still...

Personally I own quite all DCS modules and so I use the warthog for all of them including helicopters even if it is fitted for A10. The combination I’ve described with warthog and PA2 also using a modifier activated by the stick lever please me a lot. Playing always in VR I find that using a throttle with too much buttons makes difficult muscular memory learning and increases the risks of blind touch errors.

I like WinWing's throttle handles but not the Orion2 throttle base. If they had replica bases to go with the handles then I'd dive in. It's a shame they discontinued the Super Taurus throttle base. When I bought the TM F-16 throttle I chose the plain base because all the generic switches were a no-go for me. Too expensive to have random switches under the throttle. I am trying to decide between the ORION rudder pedal or the TM pendular rudder pedals. The cost isn't the main focus but how they feel is. I want something that's got fine enough control and detail for both jets and helos. I am looking forward to see how the Cyber Taurus compares to the AB9. So many great products coming out.

Except that Winwing NO LONGER SELLS the twist for rudder control. I owned the Orion throttle and stick, and it was good but here are the down sides. Firstly, all the buttons and switches in the front part of the throttle are very inconvenient to use because the actually dual throttles are just in the way. I ended up just never using them because it was no longer HOTAS if you have to look down at the buttons and move either hand to use the buttons! The stick is very good, but I got it because I was going to get the twist adapter because I cannot use pedals, but Winwing has been "out of stock" for literally more than a year and I looked EVERY week. So I sold them on Ebay and bought the VKB Stecs throttle and VKB stick and LOVE the throttle much more than the Orion by far. Way way better throttle and the VKB stick has built in twist for rudder, so I love it.

I wouldn't say detailed review as I could've gone way deeper… But that wasn't the purpose of this comparison. I think the WW SimAppPro software was easier for me to figure out than the T.A.R.G.E.T. Program, but that might just be me. In my opinion, neither one of them are perfect.
