Goodness. My husband and I have a five year goal to move to Italy in 2028. So appreciate your information about earlier the better to start to try to obtain citizenship for Italy. Questions- His great, great grandpa was Italian. That is the 3rd generation back, so will that make the process easier for my husband and I if he gets the citizenship before me?

I am so in love not only with your chateau, but the out buildings too. You have so much potential in those buildings. I am aware that it would take a lot of money to restore them, but they could also generate quite a bit of income too. You are both so blessed to have found and purchased this property. Good luck. I love your videos and look forward to watching them every week.

Amanda, you were in Momma Bear mode with the hunters last year and with good reason! More than the fact that it’s Your property is the fact that you, Lincoln and the girls could be out anywhere there and you don’t need to be worrying about gettin shot! …on YOUR property! There is no excuse to be there. They have plenty of areas to hunt legally! BTW I absolutely love the drone footage, anywhere, anytime. Enzo is the happiest 3 legged dog ever. Never worry about talking about hunting. I commented a while ago about my own struggles with hunters on my 100-acre country property only wanting the heads and not the rest for eating. It still makes me so irked when I once saw a young, headless buck! I booby-trapped the lane with what I can’t tell you what but there were flat tires. I also was constantly tearing down blinds on my property - I was a whirling dervish of irkness! Keep on Amanda!

Your first clip of Lincoln in the cottage was a hoot; along with the music my mind could only fathom the work (in hyper drive) as a form of hive deconstruction. Your care in maintaining the architectural details of the structures is commendable. We have watched as our antique buildings in California disappear due to the mindset of “it will be cheaper to build new”. This reminds me of eight little words, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Our 1915 Craftsman bungalow home was lost to fire three years ago, most of the above ground structure slipped into the basement and we were only left with burnt vertical sticks with no parts that could be restored. We are in the process of rebuilding in the style of the house that was lost, both inside and out. Yes, it is all new construction, but my hope is that no one walking down the street will ever be able to guess that the house was a complete loss and that it will still appear to be the original 1915 Craftsman bungalow home (that looks like it just had a fresh coat of paint). Best to all of you from a not so sunny California.

You're lucky, we moved to France last year on a tourist visa and have to renew it every year. Luckily we can do that financially but it's not a long-term solution. We're going through the process for something more permanent but it's France and it takes time. Also, the one is natural slate, split out of stone. The other looks like a fiber cement "slate". It's decent, it's manufactured, the only downside besides being very brittle, is that it seems to provide more moss growth than true slate. At least at our property. One outbuilding has it, the rest is real. Also, I would recommend removing all the ivy. I know people like it, but it's detrimental to the stone and horrific to the roof/structure. I feel you on the mowing, we're in the Pyrenees and...I just don't want to start yet, but it's getting to that point.

Great vid! btw - slate thickness is just one consideration when relaying a roof. Slate by nature varies in hardness by location of the source as it is a natural material. We recently redid our slate roof in the US and there were many options. If you want the hardest (most durable) slate at a "good" thickness it comes at a premium. A thick slate that is "softer" isn't necessarily the best option, so exercise some care. Slates erode over time as it s a natural material with the softer materials thinning more quickly. Our roof lasted 130 years, which I've learned is pretty good for the US. We had to source slate from Canada to get something that will last another 130 years. Some learning to do on this topic but I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for your home, out buildings, and budget. Great content and vids - keep up the great work!

Kudos to your hard work (and conquering heights Amanda), it really is impressive as is your stunning drone footage, which I never tire of. Your chateau and the location is truly a little bit of heaven, I would never want to leave that place and with spring on its way I cannot wait to see what your creative spirits are going to provide us with. Regarding the hunting, I completely agree; they would have to wrestle with me first before I would allow these cowards on my land to entrap and kill beautiful, harmless animals in the name of sport...despicable. It's a real treat seeing the donkeys get their treats. They are gorgeous and thanks to your love and kindness, looking in great shape. You really are a fabulous couple. I'm a US citizen, but was able to obtain dual citizenship with Ireland a few years ago ( I was eligible due to my Irish-born grandparents). It was not highly complicated-just a lot of paperwork that had to be done and sent to Ireland. This all happened during COVID, so the whole process took about two years. Ireland is also a member of the EU, so I'm glad to have the citizenship. I haven't gone through the passport process, but I do have the document showing my Irish citizenship.

I sympathise with your problems with hunters on your land. You need to place signs reading 'Prive Réserve de Chasse' (Private Nature Reserve - No Hunting) or 'Chasse Interdite' (No Hunting) or both every 100/200 metres along the boundary of your property. Check these signs regularly as hunters often rip them out. The Prive Réserve de Chasse means that you have declared your land to be a private nature reserve. However, this can take up to 5 years to come through, as hunting maps are only updated every 5 years. This can be done through your local Prefecture. You are within your rights to ask any hunter on your land (or whose dogs are on your land) for their papers/hunt licence, and make sure you photograph this, but NOT them, and take your complaint to the local Gendarmerie and Mayor. I can appreciate your anger, but it's never a good idea to confront men with guns. Anger gets you nowhere, as the hunters will often respond in kind, blow you off, threaten you in return, or quote endless rubbish about culture and tradition. There are different concerns to consider though; a neighbour banned hunting from her property and the following year she was over run with boar, rabbits and hare which destroyed her gardens, fields and forest. Another neighbour has problems with fox killing her wildfowl and resident chickens, so sometimes permits the hunt for that reason alone. Check your neighbours to ask if they allow the hunt on their land and see if they can advise you, and get the word out to local hunters to avoid your land. We ourselves banned hunting, but even after this the chasse once chased a wild boar across our vegetable garden and into our pool. Seeing as ours is an indoor pool, you can only imagine the ugly disaster that was for us! Good luck! Bonsoir from Normandie. ❤

Here's a thought: I wonder if you can use the damaged zinc bathtub and make into some some kind of water feature for the garden? It would be gorgeous. Love everything that you are doing. Proud of you both for the beauty you are restoring to the chateau and out buildings. I believe they will all be more beautiful than what was originally designed.

Amanda your property is beautiful. That walled garden makes me swoon! Congratulations on overcoming your fear of heights. I could no more climb up a tall ladder than fly to the moon!

Last time I looked you needed a parent with Italian citizenship. My grandparents on both side are born Italians I don’t think they ever renounced their nationality.

Great Vignettes About Chateau Life. I love your Chateau and property - especially the outbuildings and that intriguing architectural gem of building with the rounded dormer - it would make a great studio. Walled Garden. Your efforts in the walled garden are showing fruit er vegetables… and, soon, more herbs/flowers. I can almost feel being there with you, edging away with the wisp of Spring in the air and surroundings. Citizenship. It took me a few years to get my dual Irish Citizenship - Originally it was as a gift for my Dad but, luck of the Irish, they gave it to me, too. Now I’m intent on getting my EU Passport in 2024; I’m planning an extended visit walking parts of the Camino between France To Spain And Portugal.

Hi Amanda and Lincoln. I just love your channel and have been watching from the beginning. I really enjoy the humour and your filming is gorgeous. It’s great seeing the seasons, something which are less extreme here in New Zealand. I adore the animals and their personalities. You are good people. Don’t change. JB

Totally agree with you re the hunting dogs. I would be afraid they would go after your pets 😢 we have a hunt that goes along the road at the end of our garden and it makes me very anxious

Brilliant idea promotion of the natural deodorant, I love that it has capabilities for refills. I once saw something on TV about a store called 'The Container Store ' I think that was the name. You can bring back your containers to be refilled, shampoo, lotion, peanut butter, anything. Wishing that would take hold, especially when plastic recycling is such a joke. They trick you into thinking they do something with it. Sincerely in San Diego.

It would be interesting to go back in time and see the walled garden at its heyday. It's a huge area they must have really cranked out the fruits and veggies.

Lucky for you to have that wonderful walled garden. My friends in the US who live in a country setting have all but given up planting salad bars for the deer. The green grass in the drone shots looks delightful 😍 As do the skies and beautiful clouds.

I hate hunters with all my soul and I’m so proud of you, proud of you being able to breath and talk respectfully to such disgraceful people. Sorry, I’m just not tolerant with hunters. Love your videos and never tired of your combat to keep away the hunting dogs… those poor abused dogs. They are also victims.

A & L, I'm so happy for you that everything worked out to get Italian citizenship through Amanda's father. It couldn't happen to two nicer people. Through your improvements to the chateau and the way you take care of your animals, you are making France (and the world) better.

The grass you are removing will desinigrate into good compost if you clump it together and cover with a tarp and let it sit covered for a year!

We completely understand your views about people hunting on your property. 'stick to your guns' (in the nicest possible way...).. We obtained Italian Citzenship whilst living in Australia before moving to the EU. Thankfully my husband got his just prior to the change to the language rule coming into force. He's working hard to learn the language but it takes a little longer when in your 60s. Proficiency in Italian is now a requirement for citizenship. We believe the same rule is also being adopted in France or perhaps it has already been implemented.

Deer hunters still run dogs in the USA. Sorry, they can keep the dogs off my property. I feed the deer and l love watching wildlife. Our land was my grandparents and passed down. I pay the taxes and keep the land up for our enjoyment. Is only the kitchen the only room on that floor not finished?

Interesting to see what you are doing, I am too old for it now, but watching other people doing this is also enjoyable. One tip, when you use a ladder put it at a steeper angle, not 45 degrees but 60 or 70, then it’s loaded more favourably (I hope my english is ok).
