I've done that "rinse out the cans with another cooking liquid" trick in some of my own recipes, as I don't like to waste ingredient remnants, either. I wonder if condensed cheddar cheese soup could be substituted for one of the cream soups in this recipe? (I have 1 can each of cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup in my cupboard, and would like to use them up.) I also might substitute canned or leftover cooked chicken, as my husband doesn't seem to trust that raw chicken will cook through in the oven if there isn't a brown, crispy skin on the chicken pieces. That being said, this recipe is VERY similar to a chicken & rice casserole my mother-in-law used to make; the main difference was that she used bone-in/skin-on chicken pieces (and maybe removed the foil for the last 15 minutes for a little more browning).

The flavor was great, the chicken was tender! Be extra careful how much liquid you put in. I could've sworn I put what you said, but it came out way too wet & soupy and I had to cook it more to "dry it out". It made my rice mushy!

Sometimes it depends on the type and even the brand of rice, too.
