This principle worked 150 years ago on Victorian carriage lamps. Great idea for camping, if a little costly to run. I like the portability and compactness. Good product and good presentation.

Thinking about one of these. Would I be correct or wrong in thinking that once the lantern is lit it is safe to stand it on any surface without any concern for fire or heat damage or fire risk? Just thinking if it's Ok to stand it on an ordinary table for hours during a home power outage?

It won't heat a tent but it will reduce the humidity and make the tent more comfortable.

I got the 1 and 3 candle version and am looking forward to using them this weekend in a snow cave camp. I melted my glove on the top not my puffy playing around with it, it gets hot!

I have four season mountaineering tent with a ceiling vent. I hang my UCO lantern under it. That eliminated the dampness and condensation.
@RestlessWonderer

It really does help with the condensation.

Looks sweet I think I'm going to get the larger one that holds 3 candles for my winter camping. Keep up the videos.

That three candle version looks awesome...5,000 BTU of heat and can even boil water on the top. Thank you very much for the comment.

@@outdooriowan I like to say that real life is always grittier and rougher than we dream it up in our heads, but the magic is in the "doing"... like you are with your channel. I posted my first video in 2016, and had 23 subs this past May. I think you are doing better than I did :)

@@RestlessWonderer thank you. I need to get out and make a video. Thanks again. I'm trying to put together a KZbinr meet it in NE Iowa at the Yellow River State Forest. I know it's a long haul for you but figured I'd send you an invite. I'm thinking late March or early April.

SUGGESTION- An option you might want to experiment with to increase the additional heat the lantern can provide. I made a circular "heat shield" from an aluminum can and it attaches it to the top by making slots in it to attach to the handle. In addition to the added heat, it provides a surprising amount of more reflective light. Great review of the lantern btw.
@RestlessWonderer
@RestlessWonderer 4 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea, and something I am going to try. Are you making a cone from the side of the can, or cutting out the bottom whole?
@grizzbuck
@grizzbuck 4 жыл бұрын
Cut the bottom & top off the can, cut can up the side and create a flat aluminum piece to cut your circle shape from it. I would suggest making a paper model first, so you know the shape & place to cut out slits to attach to the handle. Kind of attaches to the handle with the same principle that the underneath ash tray attaches to the legs of a Weber Grill, if that makes sense. Look at a pic of a Weber Grill to see what I/m suggesting. Hope this makes sense.

Good idea. There is a Pac-Flat reflector on eBay that I think is what you are aiming for. Looks like something that could be made from an aluminum can to me.
@grizzbuck
@grizzbuck 3 жыл бұрын
Cut off the entire bottom & top of can, which will leave you with an aluminum tube, basically. Cut up the side of the "tube" and flatten. Now, you will have a sheet of aluminum, which you can now transfer your paper pattern onto.

It's a shame that UCO decided to have these made in China. The springs are too weak, some parts are too sharp and will cut you if you are not careful.
