The larger flames are because the 3 candle lantern is putting off higher amounts of BTU's so it creates a stronger thermodynamic vacuum. In other words, since it is hotter it is drawing more air up from the bottom and creating a vacuum while the other candles don't have enough power to do this effectively enough to make much of a difference.

Like to have some peace of mind, no gas here ( no huddling in the kitchen around an open stove in case of power out) thinking about using the modification in this comment with the tin can and also considering getting small flower pot to put on top to radiate heat more so. Thanks for your review and time. Just a correction, the original was made by Big Oak, then Northren Lights (Japan) which is the one I have, and yes that too was 20 years ago when I bought it. They will keep a small one man tent warm too as stated, but a tea candle can do that too BTW.. The original Northren Lights has a folding top cover (with vent holes) so there´s no need to slide the cylinder to light the candle. Only issue is when it´s a bit windy wax will stick to the glass cylinder thus dimming the amount of light put out.

The inlets in the bottom allow oxygen to be drawn into the lamp body. This oxygen heats as it is drawn up to the flame, since the heated air from the wick is rising upwards making it difficult for clean oxygen to be drawn down. This oxygen, already heated by the lamp body, travels up and combines with the flame of the wick to produce an even bigger flame. (Edited because I inadvertently duplicated a word [bigger] )

Yeah, I used to go camping when I was kid. Mostly to get out from under my parents thumb. Ha! Anywho, there were those kids who had money, and they had the Colem pump lanterns that burned white gas. Then your friends with money had those expensive sleeping bags. The was whole slew of things to go camping with if you had money. I was a kid, and luck if I had a quarter in my pocket. My grand father liked to camp when he was a kid, but he lived off the land. I brought canned beans. My grand father said, "You need a warm blanket, and matches, and knife. Yeah, little basic for me, but he was right. We brought Voltive canldles, and and stuck'em in glass. Mostly worked. I had my parents buy me a hamock, and with my own blanket I was set to go. Hard to discribe how much fun it is, to be twelve feet up in tree, with radio. and candle in glass hanging with a bent coat hanger. Yeah, yeak so what? A few year ago, I was in the Dollar store, and the had these little ornamental laterns that burn voltive candles. Damn things worked great. I bought five, and used them for everthing. Not bad for a buck. Then I got in mood, and threw them out. Been looking for them over since.

Here in the UK gas & electric has gone up so much many are fearing death from cold. My usual bill was £120 a month. It's now £428 a month and is increasing again in October by 50% and again in March. I'm disabled and plan to put a tent on my bed and live in it to keep warmer. Just need to find a tent with 2 openings, so my husband can get out a side and me out a side, and fit on a King size bed. ( do you know of any?) I already have 100s and 100s of 8 hour tealights ready for the planned blackouts government has told us we are having this winter, not to mention the frequent blackouts with Scottish 🏴🏴 weather, so the tealight lantern will be my choice. Is it safe to use ANY small lantern that takes tealights in a tent or should it be this lantern I need to get? I'm not worried about light as I have plenty batteries for light source, it's the heat I need. Could I have 2 tealight lanterns in a tent, or 3? Is there a danger with fumes from having them burning constantly do you know? Should I need a carbon monoxide alarm? An idea I had while watching your video was to put a layer of tin foil above where the lantern is hung (the poles should keep it in place?) to reflect heat and if put wide enough you could hang wet socks to dry overnight?
@HillbillyMusings2 жыл бұрын
that is crazy with the electric costs!! Hopefully things will get better soon. I believe I'd reach out to someone with more knowledge than me on advice for these in a tent indoors though. Maybe try contacting your local fire department or something along those lines, they would probably have a much better idea. I've used these outdoors before in tents, but thats a different story as the tents are well vented and have air moving through them. Thanks for watching and I hope those electric bills get under control!
