An amazing restoration, fantastic. Stowmarket is a little town about a 10 minute drive up the road from where we live here in Ipswich. It's unlikely that the Suffolk Iron Foundary Ltd still exists (probably, it was demolished years ago). It would be rather ironic (pun uninteñded) if the site where the foundary once stood, is now occupied by the BOSCH Power Tool manufacturing depot. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 Warmest Regards Wayne & Nina

Fantastic restoration and an absolutely stunning paint work has transformed this piece into a beautiful modern day tool. Each piece you do is getting better and better.
@feltshapes728411 ай бұрын
Transforming isn't restoring. Restoring it would mean bringing it back to how it was originally manufactured, which is certainly not modern. I'm sick of all these "restoration" channels that upgrade things by filing away the imperfections and maker's marks that came from the factory. That's upgrading, not restoring. (I know, if I dislike it, then don't watch it. This popped up and I decided to give it a chance, and I couldn't stop myself from finally ranting. Sorry it happened to be in reply to you, it was just the first comment I saw.) Cheers everybody!

A few quibbles. The paint will quickly be damaged at the contact point between the axle and the body. The screw securing the flywheel to the axle is probably not original. A darker wood color seems more suitable for this body color. The varnish does not seem to match the style of the era, but this is a matter of personal taste. Nevertheless. Great, stylish coffee grinder. A truly wonderful restoration. I'm happy to give you a like.

Any consideration to nickel plate any of the screws/rods for longevity?
@MWRestoration Жыл бұрын
Of course you can nickel-plate the screws. then they will last longer. To ensure a professional and durable nickel layer, you first have to copper-plate the screws and then nickel-plate them. otherwise the nickel layer will not hold.
But you watched the video very carefully. You are right, I cut the logs again. Because I wanted the grain direction to be different. I've already taken the photos of the wood, so I didn't feel like shooting it again.

17:19 The crack was cut across the grain of the wood?
@Wishbone1977 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought "why on earth would you cut it like that?", but it seems he figured out that was a mistake and cut another piece in the correct orientation, he just didn't show it. You see him mounting the wrongly cut piece in the lathe, and then after it has been turned round, the grain is suddenly magically lengthwise 😀

What happens if we sandblast directly without removing the paint?
@Wishbone1977 Жыл бұрын
He did for some of the parts, where stripping the paint would be impractical, but basically 1) it takes longer to do the sandblasting, and 2) if the paint contains lead, sandblasting it poses a health risk. You don't want airborne pulverized lead in your workshop.
@MWRestoration Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's exactly what it looks like
@MWRestoration Жыл бұрын
This is a very good question. You can actually sandblast the entire paint layer. However, it doesn't always make sense to sandblast the color. 1 Some paints are poisonous and carcinogenic, so you should remove the paint with a stain and only then sandblast it. 2 Not all paint colors can be sandblasted; extremely robust powder paints are very difficult to remove. That's why it's quicker to pickle them. 3 I first treated the parts with stain and then sandblasted them because the paint was extremely thick and it was very difficult to remove it.

Die Mühle ist zu schade, um sie danach noch zu benützen. Sie würde bestimmt gut in einem Kaffeshop als Deko aussehen.
That was why he flattened the top edge of the teeth with sandpaper on a flat surface. Sharpening the edge of the teeth again. Just no way to adjust the grind, that now is much coarser from wear and the honing. I would have shimmed the cutting surfaces closer together… if I could ever get off my butt and actually do something instead of watching other people do the work!

Warum kann man das Teil eigentlich nicht gleich sandstrahlen? Die Lackierung vorher zu entfernen ist doch eigentlich unnütze Arbeit, oder?
@MWRestoration Жыл бұрын
