Good restoration. The stakes and stumps cleaned up amazingly well. That's very similar to the restoration that I did on my K&D 600 series watchmaker's staking set. With the condition of your tool holder, I probably would have cut off that entire top piece and replaced with new wood. The top panel of the box lid on my set was cracked, through where the handle was. I cut off the top panel and glued on a new piece of mahogany. These are great tool sets and deserve some TLC to make them last decades longer.

Thank you! Old tools are surprisingly well made and should be preserved, I agree. Often, I don't know the best way to proceed on a repair and it just works out. 😁

I just purchased my first K&D staking set, it is in rough shape but hoping to restore it fully like yours. I had no idea you could use evaporust in my ultrasonic cleaner. That info alone was priceless for me and earned my subscription. Thank you very much for making such a detailed repair video

I appreciate that! I never found just one thing that took care of rust, but Evaporust is a good start, followed by polishing. 😁

Hi Ab, What an amazing restoration. The end result looked fantastic. I also bought an old staking set which only had light rusting. I put the stakes into my power drill and used wire wool to bring them up. Ive been experimenting with other hobbies lately but recently fell back in love with my clock restorations so I'm looking forward to buying some old clocks to fix up. Johnny

Nice to see you again Johnny! Using a power drill seems like a great time saver and wish I had thought of that. Since you are back in love with clocks you should be able to find some great antique Japanese clocks if you are partial to them. England imported a great many during WWI. Best regards to you!! -Ab.

@@time4clocks I need to move on from all these French clocks and explore some other stuff. By the way, whats happened to all your old videos? All I can find is recent uploads? Anyway, I hope all is well with you and am looking forward to more of your relaxing restorations

@@treetopspider I deleted my channel and started it anew with a fresh new look and no subscribers. I have been reworking the older videos I wanted to keep but the others I did not deem good enough. Anyhow, it's nice to see the old subscribers and the new coming over. Sometimes the best way to move forward is by taking a step back. :) I had personal issues going on as well but won't go into that since we all have our problems in life to work out. :)

Thank you, Mr. Timothy! Restorations can go bad but this was in such poor shape that anything would be an improvement! lol
