@time4clocks I understand. A lot of times, it takes so much effort to begin something or wanting to quit right away or when it gets difficult. I know I struggle with my brain telling me, "What's the point?" much of the time. Or wanting to be perfect right away that I get frustrated or self-conscious so I don't try. And of course being so concerned about being judged or criticized that it feels easier to avoid doing things or putting myself in a position for people to easily do that. It's a protective mechanism to shut down or hide away from everyone. Sometimes, it truly is safer to secret oneself away, to protect from harm. Even though a lot of times people don't realize how their words or actions cause harm, it's too much of a risk to be subject to it, because it can incapacitate you or their hurtful words will play over and over for days, months, years. I can remember many situations that hurt me that happened years ago, and even though it may have lasted a few seconds or minutes, it's never left me. And any time it happens again, whether to me personally, or hearing or witnessing it, or reading about it happening to others, it triggers that lifetime of pain to come rushing up.

You literally fix clocks...to work as designed by their creator. The individual clock may have the inclination to run poorly and you correct those issues to make it function in the true. Correct time, correct form, clear and truthful function because that's what a clock is for. You are no different. Simply because you like something or feel something doesn't automatically make it good, true or beautiful. You were created, you may have issues from the start, but that doesn't mean that those issues are the right way to define yourself. Good luck.
@time4clocks22 күн бұрын
I think the greatest harm is going through life pretending one doesn't have any issues. Socrates said "the unexamined life is not worth living." When I started examining my life, for me, that is when living began. Everyone is different but this is what I have discovered. Thank you, Keith.

I really appreciate your videos wheather thay are about clocks or personal groth. Here is an amusing story about myself. When I was young, a teenager, I admired and thought I would like to be like Humphry Bogart, not him exactly but the charectors he was in several movies. Two of the movies and charectors I liked best were The Maltese Falcon as Sam Spade and High Sierra as Roy Earle. Well I soon realized I was not ever going to be like Humphry Bogart or one of his charectors in the movies. I was way too shy, eventually as I got older I got over that. That really happened when I started working and doing well in my job resulting in being advanced to better positions. I am happy for you being true to yourself.
@time4clocks22 күн бұрын
Thank you, Elbridge. Self-discovery for me is not a journey without pain but the alternative is far worse. Teenage years are the worst. Staying busy can be a form of therapy I suppose but too much and people don't have time to really know themselves when they are exhausted all the time. It is a fine line and many years ago people never even considered such notions, only that this is the role you are going to play, father, mother and you don't have to like it, it's just expected, that feelings are irrelevant, etc. Well, I hope you have a great day! 😁

I have a 1898 wall clock that has scrollwork and finials missing from the top. My clock has a rebate in the top centre that would of held the tenon. Its a shame its missing. I need to do some detective work and find a picture of how it used to look. I also have an American Ansonia drop dial wall clock with a painted face, looks terrible. My biggest gripe is people sell antique furniture/clocks thats showing its age and a little ruff around the edges. They need to add "UPCYCLE" in the description. Grrr its just bastardising beautiful handcrafted pieces. If you own it you may do as you wish with it or whatever. Its the lack of skills that is imo ruining our historic pieces. Rant over, cannot wait to see the outcome of your Waterbury.

I did manage to have a garage sale last year with the help of my friend and sell stuff I had packed away for yeas. But what didn't sell I just packed up again, maybe I will try and sell that stuff on ebay this winter. Most everything I keep is antique or vintage so there is some value to it and I have a had time just letting it go for free. I admire you for being able to get rid of things like you are doing. I have a question, what sort of camera do you use when making videos? As always thanks for the video.

Hi Elbridge. I use a 14 year old Canon Vixia Camcorder HFM40. Giving to the thrift shop so they can resell it helps them give jobs to people so that helps me justify giving it away a little better. If I tried to sell everything to squeeze every last penny out of items, I would still have so much cluttering the place that just having the freed up space and the tidiness is worth being rid of it. Since I also have the tendency to keep things I have to recognize that can also just be an excuse not to let go. I have also seen how older people save items to the point where when they pass away, they are literally surrounded by mountains of stuff. I just made the decision that that will not be me. Everyone needs to make their own choices though. 😁
