Very pretty... Restoration Bronze by Melange is a color that pairs just beautifully with dark wood tones in a two toned mix, next time your undecided on a color, and I believe Benjamin Moore has a match called Sterling Forest.

Im working on a piece that is from the 1860's-1890's its a nice feeling giving something new life
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gregarious- The thing I should have mentioned in the video and I did not think about it until now is the fact that you should always do a lead test on furniture this old. I DID test this one for lead and it showed no lead but I had another wardrobe that was a consignment piece that DID test POSITIVE FOR LEAD and it was not painted. It was stained with some sealer that apparently had lead in it. I gave the piece back to the owner with a full refund. I did not want to touch it or even have it in my workshop. You can buy lead testing kits on Amazon.

If by restoring it you mean made it eligible for the Ugly Duckling contest as the Ugly Duckling then bravo. I SUBSCRIBED because I did like the platform of this video. The steps taken, the hints for restoring, and the pace were GREAT! We just didn't have the same taste, and I apparently am a shitty person. 😔 But I di look forward to checking out your other videos and seeing the new ones coming out. Well done you! Be well.

I mix my own paint inspired by your formula. I mix half paint 1/4 polyurethane and 1/4 calcium carbonate in water. It seems to me that the calcium acts like gesso and I haven't needed other primer. Thank you for the education you provide.
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit2 жыл бұрын
Good to know! I tried mixing calcium carbonate into my all -in- one paint recipe and I found that it really did not make any difference in the final quality. So, I just leave it out. I wonder how well your recipe would cover black paint or prevent bleed through?

I love the custom color you came up with. And I love two-tone furniture, the color complements the wood so well! Why did you decide not to restore the inlay that was on the glass? I thought that was so pretty
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon. It was hopelessly damaged. It was missing so many pieces that I simply would never have been able to fix it. I knew this piece would not sell for more than $350 and chances are to replace it I would have had to pay over $100 for a replica. I would not have recovered my costs and not been able to charge more.

This came out absolutely beautiful and all your extra tips are so helpful. They say that painting a piece that is over 100 years old which is considered an antique instead of vintage devalues the peace. I guess this might be true but some of this furniture will end up in a landfill if it is not re-done. With that being said, do you think you should have just restored the paint finish on the blue part as well? I have an antique sideboard and I’ve been wanting to paint it but I was afraid of this issue. Also how can you tell how old a piece of furniture really is? Thank you so much for all of your videos.
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit2 жыл бұрын
I thought it would sell better if I painted it and it did sell within 5 days of posting on FBM
@LindaM19762 жыл бұрын
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit Yes of course it sells better but you might want to check if it’s valuable first since it’s over 100 years old. It could be worth a lot more.

Really came out beautiful. I do have a question as I have a lovely old dresser that has the drop pull hardware similar to the ones on your hutch, that has a screw and the decorative nail that keeps the pull in its proper position. My issue is that there are several of those little nails that look exactly like yours that are missing. Do you know where to get replacements and what they may be called? Thank you for your very informational videos. I really enjoy watching them all!
@FurnitureFlippingForProfit2 жыл бұрын
Hi It is not until your message that I realized that when I replaced the knobs I did NOT replace the nails. Therefore, I would say that they are not really needed. If you secure the knob tightly thenit should stay in place without the nail. It is not top heavy. THe nails are just brass nails. You can probably get them at a hardware store or big box store. I am glad you enjoy my videos. Please give it a thumbs up to help by channel.
@hickorygolddoc2 жыл бұрын
@@FurnitureFlippingForProfit thank you! This one I think the screws and all just have gotten so they don’t stay tight. And the wee nails definitely seem to help them not loosen. I am just missing 3 of them and those are the ones I keep having them loosening on. It’s been well loved and is really in great condition with a lovely mirror. We had to tear down our old used to be a two room schoolhouse built in 1886 and it was turned into a house in the late 30’s. It was going to cost 5 to 8 times more to repair than to rebuild. So we salvaged the full dimensional clear fir floor that had actually been cut locally (willamette valley area in Oregon) and used it on an entry ceiling and for a barn door between the kitchen and the family room. We had lived in the old place for over 20 years and it took us 7 years to get to the point we could move in…. But Covid soared costs and availability of materials like paint, wood, furniture, appliances (still keeping my 1964 Monarch stove with two ovens ), etc. and we have done a lot of the work. We have been waiting since July 4, 2021 for new furniture so I started buying off fb market and some local flippers. We already had some old pieces from hubbys family who came to Oregon in covered wagons…they actually split from the Donner party, thankfully, and had a huge agriculture operation and we have a few historic pieces. Urie Samuel Alderman used to employ a ton of folks at Alderman Farms in Dayton Oregon. They have a lot of archived videos and such at Oregon State University so it’s been rewarding to pick up some old pieces. And nice to find some wonderful pieces that just have had the minor missing parts. Or just need a good cleaning and some good elbow grease to bring their beauty out. It’s been an oddly wonderful solution to furnishing our house when it’s hard and quite spendy to get new furniture …that just can’t compare to the pieces we have found. It’s also been quite helpful watching you and others who tackle all kinds of pieces with many different issues and solutions. It has helped me choose pieces wisely, ones that I can evaluate if it is a piece that I can fix if needed ..or not! So thank you for sharing all you do I totally have benefited and honestly I am happier than if I would of bought all new pieces!!! All because of a virus. Always nice to have something positive and practical in times like these! ❤️

I'd like to know the purchase and sale numbers on this one. I see these old hutches from time to time but am worried about the resale value.

I purchased this as part of a matching dining room set with the table and 6 chairs, a LARGE buffet , a small buffet and this hutch for $200. I currently have this priced at $350 on FBM. I do not know how well it will sell in my area. Antiques are not very popular here. I mainly purchased it to make videos showing it's restoration.

For those who like painted furniture it's nice. But, I hate to be negative but this is not "restoring" furniture. It is painting over things that need repaired and then stained etc to Restore. Just saying.
