RESTORATION CIRCLE

Күн бұрын

In this restoration video, I'm restoring a 1980 Vintage Ice Cone Maker. This machine is also called "Gola Maker", The device does not require any electricity and consumes significantly less power. The machine is mainly used in hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, and other places where people love having cold drinks or snacks.
After a quick disassembly, I gave the all parts a nice sandblasting with sand to remove all the rust. With the help of a handheld angle grinder, I removed all the casting marks from all the parts but before I steel weld the broken part. Then I fill the body with body filler. after sliding the filler from all the parts with an angle grinder. I gave a nice paint job with two colors red metallic and off-white.
I cleaned the main threaded screw and two handles' bolts with scotch brite after a 4h bath in rust remover. I used a self-made tumbler to remove the rust from all the screws. I nickel-plated all the screws, the main threaded screw, and the two handles' bolts like they were originally. In the end, I'm very happy with how this Vintage Ice Cone Maker has turned out. The color combination of the red metallic with the shiny off-white parts looks very classy together with the shiny nickel-plated parts and the clean golden-looking base plate is the cherry on the bottom.
Finally, the moment of truth arrives as I reassemble the Ice Cone Maker and put it to the test. With a sense of anticipation, I pour in the ice and turn the handle, eagerly awaiting the delightful swirls of icy goodness. As the first freshly shaved ice spirals into the cup,
I was reminded of the joy and simplicity of bygone summers.
Join us on this captivating journey of restoration and rediscovery as I revive an Ice Cone Maker that has stood the test of time. If you're a lover of vintage treasures, restoration enthusiasts, or simply someone who enjoys the sweet chill of icy treats, this video is a must-watch. Wow, graduating in 1980, that's truly a vintage accomplishment! Time flies, doesn't it? It must be fascinating to look back on how things have changed since then. High school memories from that era must be quite special. 🎓🕰️

Ah, this is a shaved ice machine....also known in some places as a snow cone maker. Also, why spikes on ice turning mechanism left all rusty? I do think it would have looked better in that blue that showed up under the top coat when it was being sandblasted.

Ice is an extremely good blasting medium. Throw away the first few rounds of ice and you’re golden. Thus why it’s used in garbage disposals.

I agree. The rust should have been removed from the daggers that hold the ice. The daggers should have been sealed so they wouldn't rust. I understand "some things get missed", thank you.

Nice job on a crudely, roughly made ice crusher, probably manufactured at the beginning of the 20th century in a middle-east country. But where and when ? Someone could tell maybe ? And I still don't know why the spikes weren't cleaned and left rusted, which makes this machine rather unsafe to use

I would have put an undercoat on prior to the color. It is a nice color but i just think there is a certain roughness that may have benefitted from an undercoat and then another sand. It ended up looking nice, well done!

I’m sorry but you cannot weld cast iron with mild steel rod (7018) I’m guessing. There was a lot of porosity in that weld I would be very surprised if it held. There is a special rod needed for cast iron & as it cools it has to be “peened”.

Have to laugh; we say these days, "They sure don't make things like they used to!" Implying that the quality was better in days long gone. Well, it was, and it wasn't! Things may have lasted longer, but all those bits of casting slag that had to be removed indicates some fairly sloppy construction standards! It looked better after you finished your restoration. Nice job!
