Masterful restoration job on this old Partner Richard. I used to sell, service and rent Partner cut off saws in my business. I sold the K65 and the K1200, with the `65` with 12 inch blade capacity being the most popular with my customers. This video held my full attention all the way from start to finish. This one is indeed a heavyweight.

What a beast! I love the versatility of that saw for its time. Partner engineers are well ahead of their time. My dad bought a partner chain saw P25 (I think) and cut a lot of firewood and I grew up with it and ended up having it and cut even more firewood as an adult. Didn’t miss a beat. Sold it to a chainsaw enthusiast who was very happy to buy it. Also sold him a reconditioned Solo chainsaw. Love your work! Richard

HI It's Nigel again in the UK. You are obviously very knowledgeable and skilled at this restoration game and I love the way that you keep the patina if possible but here's a couple of tips that perhaps you don't know. When I worked on Steam Traction engines we would often heat quite hot a Brass item seized in a casting or steel bar and then cool it in water but leave it quite some time. The water sneaks in and lubricates it but beware of course with cast iron. When you are cutting gaskets strike the punch onto the end grain of a hard wood, not fir or spruce. It will cut far cleaner. You can also just use a ball pin hammer to strike the gasket paper when it's on the iron or steel casting both along the edges (with the flat face) and on drilled holes. Quick and accurate. The proper blow lamps are great fun. 35 years ago I had a Danarm FFSS chain saw, it was heavy, so powerful and very very noisy as it had an un-silenced Villiers engine but I couldn't buy chains for it.

I've always loved seeing old machinery brought back to life and running like it did 50 or even 100 years ago. Comparing it to today's equivalent, I appreciate a lot of the safety and comfort features (such as the lighter weight, chain brake, and vibration reduction of a modern saw compared to this), but I don't think even the best saw made today can hope to last as long as this one has. My great uncle used to have a Partner chainsaw, but his was a much later model than this. I remember it lasted for YEARS even with the regular use it saw, since he heated with wood and coal.
@wkjeeping9053 Жыл бұрын
My uncle has a saw collection, and he has one of those. The odd saw they made in the 50s and 60s is a sight to see. He even has saws from the early 1800s that used hit and miss motors.

The stand alone magneto is interesting indeed. As a kid in the 70's in the US we had some old Homelite and McCulloch saws that were not too far removed from that Partner. But had the diaphragm style carbs and could be tilted. But there were lot of tilt head saws still going at the antique engine shows. A man got a good work out with the old saws for sure, But what a far better way than using the hand saw and Axe. When I got my hands on a modern Johnsered so light and powerful the Old McCulloch D-44 got put in the barn to slowly get covered in dust and lost to time. Now at 60 years of age I mostly use a Milwaukee battery powered saw. I keep in my welding truck and don't have to fuss with flammable gasoline on the job. I only drag out the Johnsered when there is serious wood to be cut. How times have changed. Nevertheless A very nice restoration and I hope you get some good fun use from the old Partner. It is a nice enough piece of machinery to enjoy the care and respect you give it sir. Cheers.

thank you, it was interesting and greatly entertaining to watch your restoration. I got the disease last year, have started collecting a few models of the older Homelites and Jonsered saws, something about restoration to near or better than new condition that becomes a driving passion. I find a large ultrasonic cleaner to be very useful for virtually all the saw parts save for the crankcase which is too large. I use a mix of detergents and degreasers that are mixed strong. Compressed air is a much used tool for me too. I do use a solvent washer and brushes at times but after scraping off the caked on grease and dirt a series of washes in the ultrasonic does well, especially on the dried and really hard black dirt layers.I saw you brush a coat of yellow paint, I am puzzled as to why you would not do a spray paint, especially when you sandblasted and had a super well prepared surface.

I had a Mc Culough with 36 inches of working bar. I repaired the hole in the fuel tank which held until the gas dissolved the cement . Like this one the bar would turn sideways to fell a tree.
