Wow amazing! I tried to sand my headlights using 600,1500,3000 but when I sprayed X2 Gloss clear coat it didnt look as clear as I was expecting, I felt the clear coat cause less clarity

Sand it again with 1500 and polish with compound

Thats normal if the environment wasnt perfect for the clear coat commonly this happens when there was too much moisture in the air or u applied to much or to less. In many cases just applying quality vinyl wraps on headlights are better. Its faster, ezier, cheaper and it is EZ to repair! Meanwhile this has to be sanded down completely to the bear plastic if u need to repair the coating! But this works well looks great no doubt

Ya I was debating whether or not to do it that way. Figure for the amount of paint I'm putting in the clear it shouldn't be a big deal, could always put the last coat on as straight clear i suppose too.

This is so cool! And it’s 10 years ago! I was playing around with tint film when I peeled it of the clear coat came with it. No I’m looking at a job like this 🤣 My body guy told me about this. I’m going to ask him to mix a little black in aswel ..

You need a plastic adhesion promoter bulldog or any of the name brand like ppg they come in a aerosol can

Plastic primer is a nice precaution , but not necessary . As long as you have good abrasion it's not going to peel/flake.

Very nice work and finished product. I never thought about a clear primer. Adding black really helped me. You said and two to three grams of black. To what amount of clear are you adding it to.

@@tommydshelby5311 I figured it out later. If you have a clear coat with non-yellowing and UV protection built into the clear coat it will work perfectly well. Also since the headlamps are made of plastic compounds you have to apply coats of plastic primer to prepare the material for clear coating. I hope thus idea helps you

i like the clearcoat from the plastic much better then the aerosol can ,the clear coat from the spray gun is a much better difference

After sanding down my lights and spraying clear coat it didn't seem to hide the scratches. I know from past experience it does on paint but not sure why it didn't with the light. I had to end up polishing the lights then clearing. Not sure how long to will last due to this.

You can find 2k clear in aerosol cans but not likely a tinted one.

Same, in fact, car clear is more durable than any plastic clear. I don't have a spray gun so i use 2k clear which is the next best thing.

Everyone will tell you cant do this, but you absolutely can, and this is in fact the only correct way to fix oxidized headlights. Every single other method will leave you back in the same place, with nasty yellow headlights in a few months. Please keep in mind, the black tint is optional.

adhesion promoter is essentially, plastic primer. So yes. All paint jobs have orange peel, just sand using high grit after it cures.
