see the woofer being steady , with a 70´s amplifier and the loudness on they vibrate for sure, no matter the power

New Acoutic Dimension amplifiers were very good sounding compared to the series on the video

why is sound so muffled (highs left the chat)
@SavingVegas11 ай бұрын
Not necessarily hifi sound when recording with a cell phone. When these are in a larger room and when listening to them from a further distance not right up front they sound great.
@elsey197610 ай бұрын
Probably bc they don't have very good off axis dispersion
@SavingVegas10 ай бұрын
Probably due to comb filtering from the high crossover point between the 2 front tweeters.

What mod did you do on your reciever? Very curious, it looks aftermarket (put in the place of the radio dial)

No mods, just an original Pioneer SX-3700

Couple things going on here in this video clip. First and for most this clip was recorded with my cellphone without any external microphone. I know it may sound silly but the sound quality wasn't really the point of this short, dumb or not it is what it is. Second I am recording quite close to the speakers and very much off axis so that will really affect the upper range. Third is, as cool as these vintage speakers are they have a few issues that will also affect the upper range. The 2 front tweeters are crossed fairly high at 12,000kHz and there seems to be some phase issues from what I am only going to assume is some comb filtering going on. I can't be certain because I have not measured these speakers. Again this was not a demonstration on sound quality just simply a short clip to watch for fun. I didn't realize people would think you can judge the sound of a speaker on a KZbin short video, but hey here we are lol.

I should add as well the system being used here is a Pioneer SX-3700 that I got for $20 from a second hand store that came with a Pioneer PL-200 turntable. I was just surprised it worked, I cleaned the receiver up and got it working fine but I believe I need a new stylist for the turntable maybe. I'm pretty new to the vinyl scene but I am slowly learning more and more about it. But at least I can say it only cost me $20 to get started.

I bet they sound real good if you played music through them.

You need more power
@SavingVegas11 ай бұрын
Why do think I NEED more power? In this short I was barely using half of the 45 watts my Pioneer receiver is rated at and that's at 0.02% distortion with both channels driven at 8 ohms. These speakers like most of the good Vega's have excellent sensitivity ratings, the 417R's being rated at 103dB with 1 watt at 1 meter distance.

@@SavingVegas yes but you put some real powder to those baby's and they will blow your mind
@SavingVegas11 ай бұрын
If you want it loud then yes big power is always good. I have ran Crown, QSC, Behringer, Yorkville and Yamaha pro amps but I prefer home audio power amps. I currently have NAD, Sansui and Adcom amplifiers with the Adcom GFA-555 being my favorite that puts out around 350 watts per channel, it's in my shop running my fully restored D-9's. With that I have a Yamaha P2500S pro amp running two Yamaha 18" bass bins hooked up in parallel for a 4Ω load bridged which the amp is rated at 1300 watts. So I agree big power is nice but not needed, all depends on how you like to listen to music. The CV receiver saver series was advertised to be designed for smaller power receivers and still have impressive output.

the yamaha sounds a lot better than this already in 1980/81 receiver from pioneer, this with ant known brand ,somehow all btrands decreased their quality in 1980, it was told to make components more afordable to everyone but in reality not even the high-end components kept their 70´s quality of sound and with less watts it powers all big speakers above 30 watts amplifiers or receivers, Eminem was never interesting to me and i have a lot of hip hop records but mainly from NWA and public enemy at the time people call it rap music, not to forget the whitest rap banmd beastie boys who started with hardcore sound as a band
