There’s a guy in KZbin who modifies forged connecting rods to fit the 2.8L PRV. Find him, and you can upgrade this engine during the rebuild.

Yeah and he's about the only guy getting that right now. Helium is near impossible to get especially since covid. He only gets it because of the things he's welding for the millitary. Then there is the price of helium. Better just welding aluminum like everyone else does with pure argon. Steve Norris got a youtuber hand when the welding instructor did those viper heads.

I see people recommending TIG welding the block. By the time you heat those areas with the torch hot enough to form a puddle, it will blow a hole through it the size of a quarter. The aluminum is SO contaminated, it would require grinding the pits out to try and get to a clean base metal. You won’t find any, and you’ll grind into the oil passages. Oil soaked, oxidized, crumbling aluminum can’t be welded properly. If you’re lucky, the best you can hope for is a wad of black, porous globs that you can cover with JB weld.

Evaporust (which is just watered down naval jelly) is corrosive, and like any other acidic or corrosive cleaner either turns aluminum black or worse eats it away. Years ago I was buying and reselling vintage small appliances and I used oven cleaner to try to clean an old waffle iron and it completely turned the aluminum griddle surfaces totally black which would not rinse or scrub off.

What would be your other engine replacement options? Something easier and cheaper than buying ANOTHER Delorean with a possible valley of death issue.
