Rather than bringing you a video packed with music and dialogue, we give you an oddly satisfying experience of what it takes to bring this thing back to life.

Chapeau!

My father owned one of these for years. Great cars and fast cruisers for their time. Like being on a magic carpet. Everything hydraulic. Funnily enough ours had a fibreglass front bonnet as opposed to the aluminium one found here. They must have realised it was cheaper to make. I remember well because some dude with road rage (nothing new here) tried leaning in on the front bonnet to damage it and it just sprang right back into shape 🙂 Only slight damage was a crack in the paint but it kind of polished out. I'd love to have one today. So comfortable and in advance on their time. I never realised how well situated the engine was. So low and behind the front axle ! No wonder the handling was good too.

Best Auto ever made for the average working guy. I had the pleasure of having two of them. A 1958 DS21 Black and White (Comfort, Speed and Dependable). Also, a 1961 ID 19 Blue and White Engineered way ahead of it's time. I enjoyed them both through the 70's. lost both of them because of rusting out the enclosed tubular frame from salting the roads here in PA. I'm now 82 and enjoyed your video, it brought back so many pleasant thoughts and memories. Citroen is and has been a real car to fall in love with. Driving down the Hi way on 3 wheels always brought a lot of attention and conversations. Thank you and God Bless the work of your hands. Allan

I kind of like the unnarrated episodes because you don't pause and explain everything you're doing. I know by now well enough what you're up to so it flows better. I think you may reach a broader international audience this way, too. Anyway, much success to you and yours, and merci beaucoup !

You are observing the strangest designed and constructed vehicle of the century. Nothing you think you know about how a vehicle should operate is applicable here. Just the hydraulic suspension alone is a maze of piping, pressure balls, pumps and fittings. When first manufactured in France, it was considered the most advanced and compliant system ever conceived. The quality of the ride is spectacular. Did you also notice the engine is installed backward? Things get more complicated from there. Reviving this little beauty will be a lifelong challenge for anyone not experienced with Citroen servicing. 🙏

Its quite simple once your used to it. The gearbox is infront of the motor, the driveshafts are massive and carry the braking forces as well as the motors power. The brakes are massive inboard disc brakes. They use an intricate clockwork mechansim to take up the adjustment as the pads wear (for the handbrake, that is on the front, it can't be on the back as the wheel base changes as the car lifts and drops due to the trailing arm design)

At that time the DS19 and ID21 were the best and most original car made in France (with the 2CV in a different class). So many features that it amazed many foreigners when they saw this very designed or sci-fi car for the first time. Over 20 years my father had three to five of them; the latest being the all leather hupolstery Pini Farina convertible; that was class. I never saw a car that was more outstanding in my family history. Buying and driving new cars after that was like going back to the world of "ordinary". Great video : no talking. Hello from France, kudos to the mechanics and the director who perfectly filmed this resurrection. My father in law owned 2 DS and this is a monument of the French Culture. You are restoring a French monument Guy's! We are looking for the next episode.

Very much enjoyed this. My Grandfather used to have one of these in the 60s and 70s and he’d regularly take it completely apart. I’d help some and I’ve always wished I had one of these. The ride was superb. I like the silent format, but some reaction to the scorpion find in the cylinder was probably muted out.😂

My friends parents had one of these Citroen DS many times I sat in there and had a comfortable luxurious ride with them, as a 10ager. Always loved them and found them futuristic looking.

This one is for the true believers. An admirable effort. Having some experience with these 'steam irons', l would expect a myriad of challenges to make this ex ID19 anywhere near reliable for future use. More than a million of these were made, so there will be spares available. Wishing you guys all the best of British luck 😆

I used to own a successor to the DS, an XM 3 litre V6. Where that car came into its own realm was at high speed, so quiet and smooth. The comfortable interior of the XM was outstanding with its large seats and legroom. I had a few Visas aswell. Citroen were different and worthy cars.

I worked on these for a while in the early '70's, and had a '59 ID19. Awesome cars. I recognize you all's skills and the camerawork is great. Watch out for rust. I once had one up on stands like you and they punched right through with no warning. There's a place to bleed the air out of the hydraulics on a regulator on the intake side of the engine. It has a sphere on it. There's an 8mm stub on the side.. With the engine running, crack it open for a minute, then close it. You have to reach down in there. Barring leaks, the car should rise. It takes a special hydraulic fluid. I want to say castor oil based, but I'm not sure. Nice work.

For me, it's more satisfying to hear father and son talking throughout the video about the car they're working on, the problems they're having and so on. The silent stuff is kind of creepy.

Imagine the fine, sleek lines and space age technology of these Citroen DS 19 compared to the early pre-war Citroen Traction. Well, the Citroen factories were churning out both cars at the same time, and the assembly workers must have been awestruck by the leap in technology and innovation.
