I think it's great you and your dad can have a close relationship like that. My dad is 71. And we don't get along at all. 10 minutes a month is about all we can tolerate each other. I really wish we could be like you two. One day my dad won't be here. And I will regret it. But for now, that's not possible.

I think I'd probably spend a lot of time at your guys shop I wish I lived closer. I build these things I've got the trim to go around that outside opening and over your 2/4 to keep the Sun from deteriorating the wood and critters out of the ribs of the siding. Great job this will come in extremely handy in the future. Now for the ramp outside have a truck of good compactable material delivered right to the back door and spread it out as you like let that sit as is driving in and out of it see how you like it before changing it to a concrete slab that is my opinion an cover's two issues first one being it will naturally compact over the next 8 months and the second issue you can address will the trailer have clearance and not drag on the top of the slab going out. Depending on how far from the center of the rear tire to the back of your trailer will determine if you can drop quick or need more runout. Good rule of thumb 1 inch of drop per foot of run so you might have to go out 16 up to 18 ft out if it's a 16 inch drop. From slab to ground. You might just save a lot of hassle in the long run. And then when you decide to pave the ramp you will have a good foundation to start from. Truly enjoy all the videos you guys put out even these different types of things. Keep up the great work and content. As always looking forward to seeing what you have for us in the next one.

💯💯💯Love to see you growing! Why not have a fan appreciation day. Allow some fans with their skills to come for a day and help clean up, organize and donate some skills in return for a meet and greet, hot dogs... Prayer and some laughs! Just a thought. I'd drive 2 hours to help with a concrete ramp or painting. By the way... I can sell most any power tool, A/C compressor or pressure washer etc for half of retail. Grainger type stuff. It's donated assets and helps us raise money for charity. Big fan. However I can help grow your channel! Thank you for amazing content! 💯💯💯

2 2x8 with a sheet of 1/2 osb in between them would make a stronger header. You should have cut the top of the inside 2x4's so that your header would set on top of it. So your header would have been 12 foot 3 inches. I'm not nit picking. You said at the beginning, if we seen something to speak up. Lol.
@jimamundsen7029 Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the garage door install a lot, but I think the header should have gone up first then the vertical 2 x 4's would go under it, providing a lot more support than just the screws you used. Hope it doesn't sag on you.
@codystepanian9558 Жыл бұрын
That’s a long distance for 2x4s and not even vertical. The metal will add a lot of structure and strength tho

Three things that I would do is to treat the exposed wood. Paint it or oil it or whatever to protect it from the weather. Two, close the gaps between metal plate serrations to prevent water from soaking into the wall. Lastly, I would secure the metal around the door with more screws as the wind has more grip on the metal now.

I don't know what kind of snow loads you guys deal with down there, if any, but that header has too much deflection in it. Cover it with 3/4 " plywood and nail the daylights out of it. Rule of thumb for header sizing is the width times 1.1 for the height, which you got right, except that's for solid timber and the same thickness as the wall framing, in your case, 3-1/2" . Check your local codes, you really don't want gravity to sag the header, which it will do if it's not strong enough.
