I really wanted to polish the whole thing, Seems like it would cost a fortune to get all the different shape wheels to reach the weird spots. Plus at the pace I polish I'd be working on it next year this time 😆

You went much further than I did on prepping my wife's intake and hers has lasted 2 years with no major issues. I don't think you will have any issues with the job that you did on it. Great job and nice tutorial on what and how you did it.

Intake looks awesome. If you don’t want to do a bunch of tedious masking you could put acetone, brake clean, or anything that’ll cut paint on a rag and wipe the paint off when it’s wet on the area you don’t want painted. Works great I’ve done this a a lot with polished valve covers where you want to paint the emblem that’s embedded but not the outside. Also instead of polishing that high you can clear coat the aluminum then polish that out and it’ll stay with that polished look and you don’t have to constantly worry about cleaning and polishing. Just another way to get the same job done. It’ll last until you decide to do something different with it I’m certain lol. Now let’s get that thing on and some life in the car already!!!

Sound like some decent ideas there to try cuz! Now that you mention it I will probably go back and clear the polished rails to seal it. I'm ready to hear this thing run too!

Great video! I'm in the process of cleaning my intake and getting ready for paint. I can't find any info in my service manual about the piece on the bottom. If you could tell me what it's called and explain what you're doing at 8:50 it would be greatly appreciated 👍

Thanks for watching and the kind words! Not sure exactly what the pan under the intake is called exactly. It is part of the EGR system on the car which I have deleted on this motor. Under the pan there is 5 pipe plugs. I just removed them to clean everything really good. In the video I was putting them back in with thread sealer and reinstalled the pan.

@@YerkitRacingChannel ok. I was planning on removing that piece for cleaning but wasn't sure exactly what I was getting into under there. Thanks for the response I appreciate it.

How in the world did you get the inside of the intake so clean? Mine is covered in oil/carbon and nothing has worked for me. Haven’t gone down the oven cleaner / sand blasting / hot dip methods.
@YerkitRacingChannelАй бұрын
avoid oven cleaner! almost destroyed this intake with it... I ported the intake and removed all the buildup in the process. Then I cleaned it with oven cleaner trying to make it look better. it left a black powdery substance inside and out from the chemical reaction. Ultimately had to buy a blasting cabinet and blast it inside and out to get it all off... after that I used a propane torch to burn any leftover oil in the pores of the aluminum. Then primed, painted and polished the top!

One suggestion .. is get a lapel Mic you can strap to your shirt so you don't sound so far away .

im about to restore one of these intakes for an lt1 project of mine. im building a Loyd elliott headed motor with the torqhead ignition system. I’m not sure what happened that shit is on the side of that intake or if I need it or not
@YerkitRacingChannel Жыл бұрын
Sounds like a nice build you are putting together! As far as the stuff on the side of the manifold most of it was emissions stuff so I'm no longer running most of it. Just the couple of necessary vacuum hoses and I would keep the PCV valve in it but run it to a catch can instead of directly under the throttle body like the factory has it. They get a lot of oil in the intake from the factory. 'Run one hose PCV to catch can and another from catch can to under throttle body.
