I loved seeing Mont Saint-Michel when I was 10yo. We lived in the Netherlands and some of my American family members came over and in two cars we did a road trip to France. We stayed at Bed and Breakfasts around the outside of Paris. Visited the palace of Versailles, Monet's residence and gardens, and Mont Saint-Michel. Probably a few other locations outside Paris, but those three locations really stand out in my memory. I hope to take my child on a similar trip in the future.

If you’re planning to see Mont Saint Michel, then we recommend that you visit a few other areas in Normandy, like Giverny (Monet’s gardens) and Honfleur. Normandy is beautiful!

One of the highlights of our trip was a day spent walking throughout Mont Saint-Michel and a second evening visit walking around the outside to take photos. The best idea for that parquet floor is to cover the whole floor with sanding filler then come back with a big sander and plane it down to one even surface. Just be sure to countersink any nail heads.

When I do my outdoor bricks I mix 3:1 Sand and morter. It makes the " grouting" firmer. Just an idea.

Any foundation or drainage issues aside, I 100% would have suggested planting something in those spots. Paving (even cobblestones) right up to a foundation is a big miss in landscape architecture. It just creates a bleak hardscape. Planters would be an option to flank the doors, but they require more upkeep than something in the ground. Still, progress is progress.
