This was an awesome lesson on saving a tree. I did 1/3 compost/soil/worm castings mix, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 peat moss for my goji berry. It really enjoys the drainage and has been able to handle the desert heat here in Vegas. I also used it for my dragon fruit by further adding sand and cactus mix. I will apply this mix that you showed us in this video for my citrus trees. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Elder! APTTMHY!

I'd like to thank the video for its helpful guidance on restoring my Myers lemon tree. I purchased it from Walmart for a steal at $7, and it was in a pretty bad state when I got it - it had no leaves at all! But thanks to the video's tips, I was able to nurse it back to health and get it thriving again.

Also, I live in Zone 7B in Lower Maryland. I have some Trifoliate Citrus. They are about 7 to 15 inches. I might be able to get away with some Meyor Lemons. I want to grow some sweet Citrus... maybe something like a Satsuma or something. Before I take a risk with something so delicate I will learn as much as I can to ensure that I do right by the spirit entrusted to me. I'll take up the challenge soon enough.

Hi, enjoying your vibe so you have a new subscriber! I have two brand new trees ready to pot, a Meyer and a Kefir. Because I'm starting from scratch I'm confused on exactly what soil ratios. I will be using a similar size pot, but would like something a little more attractive (any hints). My trees are about 3-3 1/2 feet tall with no branches, but leaves all the way up the stem. How do I help them branch? I live in zone 9 Florida. Any extra help would be so appreciated. I look forward to my citrus trees looking like yours!

Hello GFary I do not use the mix you use, but I can say to pay close attention to your trees, especially in the summer months. Keep them in partial shade and provide a overhead shade cloth.

Hey my friend..doesnt vermuculite hold moisture and perlite repel moisture? Wouldn't vermiculite make the soil soggy?.
@elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg84252 жыл бұрын
HI, Actually vermiculite ph is neutral while perlite is slightly alkaline. So to answer your question both holds water but vermiculite holds onto water longer. Perlite does not repel moisture. So if you are growing plants that need wetter soil than vermiculite would be a better choice. Hope this helps.

IT SHOULD WORK! IF IT IS MIRACLE GROW THAN YOU'RE ON YOUR OWN. Be sure to make the soil amendments light so that it is well draining.

Mine is in 70-80% sand and it's doing just fine, has over 50 lemons right now which are almost ripe. And it's in full bloom, by the way. So sand can be used as main ingredient as well.

I am having a lot of success with using mainly soil conditioner (12 parts) with some perlite (1), vermiculite (1), and coconut coir (1). I do live in the Pacific Northwest, and I noticed the more perlite I add the sogier the soil gets, but the more soil conditioner the better the drainage and light moisture. Probably because it is colder up here, and it would make more sense to add more perlite in warmer areas like California to retain moisture. =)
@elderyehudahwatchmanoftheg84253 жыл бұрын
No perlite or vermiculite in my mixtures. I have no problem with drainage in my mixture nor do I have a problem with water retention. I'm glad what you do works for you. Always good to find and experiment within your climate and region.
