Great to have you back, Chris!! 2022 will be a special year for us all, and I think you've got many months (if not years) of Callaway content coming. Thanks again!

Are you going to be putting R12 in it? You'll want to make sure to replace the drier/accumulator as that's a must anytime the system is cracked open. Many years ago, since I could tell mine had been running low, which can damage the compressor. I bought a good used compressor and went ahead and replaced the orings on the case. I replaced the evaporator, which was a pain having to reseal the black plastic casing. And I removed the condensor and all the lines and flushed them with whatever a/c cleaner and blew it out with compressed air. I replaced the orings for the sensors on the lines, and put in a new R12 orifice. And I got a universal oil that can be used with either R134 or R12. And got a tank of R12 and scale and gauges, and rented a vacuum pump from the auto parts store so I could pull a vaccum for a few hours, and filled the components with the proper oil amount and added in the R12 in a liquid form. It was a whole ton of work. But it's still holding up.

Hi Chris! I like your work, and I enjoy to watch your channel. A couple of comments to this episode: like some already has mentioned, what you did to the compressor is more like repainting, not restoration. Repainting is of course a part of the restoration, but a full restoration would also involve to check for mechanical wear and tear. I dont know how the rules are in the US about disposal of R12 gas, but it's maybe worth mentioning that this is a gas you normally don't want to get out in the atmosphere... Looking forward to the continuation :)

Chris, Do you know if that compressor is still good before going through the work of cleaning it up? No refrigerant in the system when you disconnected the lines means that there was/is a leak in the system & moisture has certainly gotten into the compressor & condenser over the years

Hey, Chris! Hope all is well. On the compressor, check the air gap between the clutch shoe & the clutch. Saw you just tightening the bolt up with impact. Also, make sure you spin the compressor to make sure it spins freely. Have a good one & have fun!

Hi Chris! Happy New Year Buddy! Missed you and your videos. The compressor looks great again. Why didn’t you just use the Aluma-Brite spray? Wouldn’t it have restored the finish to original? Or is the casting too rough? Can’t wait to see that engine bay completely restored to better than new! I know it will be awhile…but it will be an interesting journey getting there! 😎😀😁

Hey Chris great to see you back working on the Callaway. Hope you and your family had a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year! Is there any way you can get the AC compressor tested before you reinstall it?
@macgroober13962 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. I figure if he goes to the trouble of cleaning up the old one, replacing all the lines and possibly the condenser, gets the system filled, and finds a leak...then has to go and get the system evac'ed, remove the compressor again, get a new one anyway, put it back together, get it pressurized again, that's a lot of lost time. Plus, you ended up buying a compressor again anyway. There's three scenarios and two of them result in buying a new compressor. This car is so special, it should just get a new one right off the bat (says the armchair quarterback). But I get it, it's a chance he could save some $$$ for now. And it creates more content for us :)
