First off, well done! Couple of things to note. That power unit is in dire need of replacement. There are so many better options out there that will give you much better performance and filtration. I highly recommend looking into MD Manufacturing units. They tend to be the most reliable. Also, with regard to the hose - I recommend getting a hose sock for it. That will protect your furniture and baseboards, as well as make the hose SO much easier to maneuver. The hose takes some getting used to, but it gets easier with time. I recommend looping it about 5 times before hanging it on the wall. When you want to vacuum, set it on the floor and start unwrapping it by grabbing the wall end and twisting out two loops. Plug it into the wall, then grab the handle end and unwrap it the rest of the way. To put the hose away, reverse the process. Also, look into getting a stretch hose. It makes it so much easier for quick pick ups. Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with that Electrolux unit. It has the same Lamb Ametek motor that almost every other central vac used. My old house had a Soluvac from 1987 and it still worked fantastic, and exhausted outside so the filtration was irrelevant.

It's a great system. You will constantly turn it off accidentally while using it, Don't let it bother you.

I hung our hose bracket much higher on the wall, this allows for longer loops which means less loops. This made the hose fit much better on the bracket. There was so much room on the bracket the I can also hang the metal tube and and vacuum head on the bracket before hanging the hose on it. Makes it much neater with everything in the one spot. Also all of our outlets have the flap lift up not down like yours. I think lifting up is a better idea because it is using gravity to help return the flap. So when the springs get tired the flap still stays closed on all outlets and no suction is lost. The things I love about ducted vacuum is how quiet it is. It has amazing suction. And due to the size of the unit in the garage the system has to be emptied no where near as often as other systems.

This was a great video that vacuum is vintage if its from 1989 although it doesn't sound to heathy though think the bearings need replacing. Central vacuums are quite cool we don't really have them in the UK tho.

You gotta put a *top entry* on that "cat house" One thing I *love* about the whole house vac is that I can clean out the small canister vac, without the attendant cloud of dust that usually accompanies opening it.

That power unit doesn't sound healthy. I can tell the bearings are shot. I seriously hope you got a replacement filter for it because if you didn't, you will ruin the motor entirely if you ran the power unit without a filter. What I would've done is I would've upgraded the entire power unit with a brand new one. Electrolux still sells those power units today but now under the Aerus brand, they're three times more powerful than what you have currently. OVO does sell surprisingly units for under $400, I don't think there is anything better out there than the 700 AW for the money. Or what I would've recommended is either the MD Flo-Master F650t, the Cyclovac GS215, or the Vacuflo 566Q. In my opinion better than both Electrolux and OVO. Here's another thing that I would've done, I would've ordered the exact same electric square door inlets that you've replaced with the basic oval ones and I would've ordered an electric hose along with a powerhead. Why? Those powerheads today can out clean your Dyson DC28 on carpets and not to mention they won't wear up the carpet fibers as much. There's a reason why Dyson voids carpet warranty by some carpet manufactures. Or what I also would've done is instead of getting those plastic oval inlets, they make those same oval inlets that are metal. They're more pricier but they are much more durable and reliable than the plastic ones. However if you do decide to upgrade to an electric hose with a powerhead later down the road, you're going to have to order the electric hose that comes with the cord. I get that some people don't like dragging the hose around, but have you ever heard of a Hide-A-Hose before? Or how about a VacPan? If you're interested in learning more about central vacuums, I'd recommend going to either MD Manufacturing or Think Vacuum's websites. Central vacuums in my opinion are still my number one recommendation to get for newly constructed built and/or even existing homes! Anyways, that's all I wanted to add here. Cheers!

I was actually thinking about replacing the entire vacuum unit with a new one but wasn't too keen on shelling out $500 or so if this one still worked. I did order a new filter and just forgot to include that. For whatever reason it is taking a few weeks to get delivered so I didnt bother waiting to include footage of that. Thanks for your input! Things are still working as before. The system doesn't get too much use at the moment. Mostly just for dust collection on the miter saw. I'd like to replace the unit with a brand new one some day down the road.

I will be installing a central vacuum in my new house I would say it’s quieter easier and better than a normal vacuum that is portable central vacuum system is far more powerful if you have a good motors and are 30 years old I’ll be installing-year-old units

Since we got a bot vac. Built-in one took a back seat. We use it very seldom. bot vac. and mop both are fantastic.

@@tonyhwang3888 bot vacuum is a glorified broom, they don't have great suction even as a "quick pickup" machine they're awful and expensive, makes me sad so many people look at those as a main vacuum not realizing thwy will never deep clean. Only way I could see it working is if you have a 1 level house with all hard floors no kids or pets (or pets that don't shed much) and it's maybe just you and your wife. Otherwise stick to a traditional vacuum or in this case a central vacuum, that bot vacuum doesn't hold a candle to a central vacuum...

Bot vacuums in general are nothing more then a glorified broom.... however in your case it can sorta work because you have hard floors but however you don't have the ability to vacuum furniture or deep clean areas with carpet like you would with a central vac. Also as others pointed out that tank seems very tired I'd recommend going with riccar or the cyclovac equivalent or modern day, depends on what your dealer offers. Don't make the mistake of buying a cheapo unit online or in the box store those are complete garbage...

Order some “ Torndo cloths} and suck one through each inlet They will clean , deodorize and clear all your pipes on the wall and make your central vacuum tank smell, good

Usually replacing motors doesn't help a whole lot with maintaining the power on where it should be at. However replacing the motor gasket is what mostly makes a big difference.

Unfortunately bearings is something that cannot be fixed or repaired on a central vacuum motor nowadays, only the carbon brushes. It wouldn't make sense to replace the motor just because the bearings are bad, the motor should still run ok but not the greatest. I would replace the motor if either the mini breaker keeps popping, burning electrical smell, excessive blue sparks seen from the motor top, no suction at all, you only hear a "click", motor shuts down on its own but works later, or its life of 900-1200 hours had been used up. But if I was in this situation, I would've recommended just upgrading the power unit to a brand new one. Electrolux still sells those power units today but now under the Aerus brand, they're three times more powerful today than this older Electrolux. Or what I would've recommended for this house instead is either the MD Flo-Master F650t, the Cyclovac GS215, or the Vacuflo 566Q. In my opinion better than any Electrolux or Aerus Centralux units. However if price is more of a concern, then I would recommend looking into the OVO 700 AW.

Yes the motor was replaced because the original motor sounded horrible, it made a bad smoking smell, and there was just hardly any suction at all.
