Screw holes-5200 to inject then epoxy, sand, gelcoat. Bow hole, the marine putty or some bondo would work. Just did a 26' gunnel cap joint with the marine putty, sanded, gel coated, reinstalled the rubber bump strip all the way around on a Oceanaire.

I make my living as a sign guy, who also specializes in vinyl graphics and wraps. I would not wrap the boat until that clear coat. Is removed. Vinyl is only as good as the surface it is stuck to so if the clear coat is pealing then the wrap will just peal with it. Plus any imperfections in the paint/clear coat will be visible under the wrap. Also wraps are only about the thickness of paper so it will scratch easy. I've wrapped probably around 50-100 boats in the 17 years I've been doing this and never suggest wrapping the bottom of a boat. It will peel or gouge when loading and unloading from the trailer. I usually only wrap to the waterline for esthetic. If you did wrap it then put another layer of PPF film over the wrap. It is basically clear bra material they use from vehicles it will protect the wrap and help it last longer but PPF material is very expensive. I wrapped my little 14ft fishing boat and the first time a barely rubbed the dock, forgot to put out my guards, it damaged it pretty bad. I now offer clients a layer of PPF to prevent that. If you ever have any vinyl or wrap questions feel free to reach out. Love watching the content by the way. I'm rooting for you and hope you get that on the water soon!

@@TightlineTV It’s like some other person commented… The fact that you’re willing to take on a project like this is admirable… Putting it on KZbin is beyond reproach. Keep up the good work I’m curious to see the finished product. By the way… At the end of the day those transom holes are just holes and they don’t affect the integrity of the boat. You can use JB water weld to pack it in there, sand it down and it’s paintable also. I know this because I accidentally drilled a hole in my boat from the inside out. Story for another day battery tray mount blah blah blah.

You got alot to learn, I'm 57 years old and I've made your mistakes, it's your turn to make them, I didn't listen either! There's some lessons you have to learn by re-doing.

FYI, you can push up and down on the motor when trimmed up (1st stage) and watch down the transom from the side for flex in case there was that much water in the transom. If you don't have any noticeable flex them you should be fine. If you can leave in the garage a few days with a little space heater on the transom you can make sure and get it is dry before you seal the holes. It is pretty typical to see bass boats with stuff mounted right to the boat (no block). Some of the rigged bass boats come from the manufacturer that way.

@SharpShooter98672 жыл бұрын
Not going to lie, screwing in transducer cables like that is very common, and to some extent, there will always be a little bit of water and moisture in the bottom of your boat. What you saw coming out of that screw hole is most likely from the rain from it sitting while getting wet. That's why boats have a drain plug in the stern, close to the lowest point of the boat, which also doesn't make a perfect seal all of the time depending on the style of plug. Applying some marine silicon, the 5000 for permanent fixtures, or 4000 or lower grades for slightly less durability, on the screws while screwing them in and letting them set once they've been tightened, creates a water tight seal, and is commonly used for through hull fittings under and around the boat, and transom cabling. Everything else will get drained when the boat is taken out of the water and the plug is pulled during storage or by the bilge pump if the boat is letting in enough water to trigger the pump switch or you manually actuate it. That's usually not the case unless something is significantly wrong with the boat and its taking on water. (Plug isn't in, crack in fiberglass, etc.) Otherwise, those screw holes will never let in enough water to make a difference if they're installed correctly. Hope this helps.

5200 epoxy the holes sand and re-gel. The nose can be done with bondo sand down and re-gel. If you got Clear gel flaking off then a wrap isn’t going to last, you’ll get moisture in those places and the wrap will bubble. It won’t be super noticeable but eventually it’ll be apparent what happened. Best way is to clear gel coat it again, but you’ll have to spray it on. It’ll look like it came off the showroom floor in 96’ if done right but gonna take some time and muscles to bring it back.

All you're ideas are fantastic. But first function over all.

I've done and watched pros drill wholes in the transom for cable supports and the transducer mount, however, you should put marine silicone in the holes and screw into it so that the hole is sealed from water. What you showed indicated that someone beforehand didn't do that.
@lovethedogsNC2 жыл бұрын
3M 5200 marine adhesive for the holes. I find it hard to believe that much water came from the transom out of the reinforcement/foam, it just would not run out in a stream like that. If that transom had that much water in it the motor would be on the ground ;-). Did the hole(s) go thru into the bilge area that may have had water in it? I have restored gel coat and painted boats and it is a lot of work (obviously) and it always cost more than you think. Wrapping is the way to go!

When you do a full restore like you're trying to do, there are some things worth doing and some things not worth doing. I think the wrap idea is a creative one and may actually enhance the finish look of the boat when you're all done.

# 1, don’t be discouraged kid, your doing a good job, don’t listen to naysayers. It’s open ( no wood in that area ) the transom doesn’t go all the way to the bottom of the boat. It’s draining from the bottom of the boat. Once dry , fill with epoxy and cover with gelcoat or the wrap ( it’s ok if you want to wrap the boat . Your doing good .

My suggestion is taking your time and power wash & keep working at getting that top clear coat off. here is a thought: get a plastic putty knife and try and scrape it off, and that won't scratch it. It's going to be some serious work, but worth it. Then you can get marine boat polish and gel coat wax. and buff it out with a machine buffer, you can rent, or borrow from a friend. As far as the front nose, marine putty, and sand and get gel coat color from Bass Cat to make it look right. Also, use that color to hide the holes once filled with epoxy putty and sanded, and gel coat to match hull. True, using a heater in those holes once drilled out and dry out the inside, before filling them. I would suggest sealing the inside transom at those spots as well. Looking good! How about new grey or tan carpet would look nice. I don't like wrapping boats. It's too nice a boat as it is. No need to mess with another headache, when you don't have too. Plus, boat would sell better original for sure!! The motor water hose has to have a fitting that it plugs into for it to drain. I have a suggestion: Contact an outboard repair shop and get some advice from them when working on the motor as well. That can pay off well...

That’s more than likely oxidation from years of lack of maintenance. Wet sand it with 1000 grit and soapy water and step up 1200-1500 and polish then wax. Get a decent polish snd wax with a sun protection in it. It’s not automotive clear coat I’m pretty certain. It’s simple water oxidation. The sandpaper will remove it easily. That’s why we wax them to prevent the oxidation from ever starting. The holes in the back need to be cleaned with a dremel and have kitty hair stranded fiberglass pushed inside after getting it cleaned. Go deeper than you need to be flush to allow room for other materials. Then put fiberglass strands and resin over it and cure. You can cover it with new gel coat afterwards. Be sure to go recess with the resin layer so your gel coat will flush out smooth. There are videos explaining on KZbin how to do it. I’ve bought boats with worse oxidation than yours that turned out great. Hope this helps some and good luck 👍
