Super excited for this build. So many of these fall into poor ownership and need a lot of love. Looks like you have a lot of the building blocks to bring it back around. The interior is mint! Maybe you can find someone who can help you out with body work on these projects. Def a car on my bucket list!

I’ve had two SRT Challengers one was a 6 manual speed. and a C-5 Corvette 6 speed manual with Z-51 package. This N54 is faster than all except maybe the manual Challenger maybe. This car has been an act of love although I knew it would be. I absolutely love this car.

I recently bought a basket case of an 335i E93 with the N54. It was running with 137,000 on it. Transmission is good too. Although there’s a seal above the valve body that will make you think you need a transmission. Including a CEL and limp mode. Good video. I actually turned on notifications so I can follow content on this car.

SIR! You're sincerely awesome! I mean that!! Your heart is not hardened like so many in this modern clown show we now live in. Thank you! and please don't let it get tainted as people do you wrong and hurt and lie to you. I know you've served our country and I couldn't be more proud of you as a fellow human and man! ANYWAY......lol. Now to talk about myself in relation to your car/project. So this car really reminds me of when I bought my 2008 335XI for $1500. It was not running and was sitting for a year before I bought it. I towed it home and started doing all maintenance and repairs. I found the high pressure Fuel Pump was shot as well as the right front wheel bearing and a few other things like the turbos were leaking lots of oil. The mileage was 288,000 Miles when I got it and some things had been replaced but a lot was not done. I maxed out my credit cards and started replacing plugs coils valve cover gaskets Water pump ALL the sensors (got a couple of bum steers on those lol. Then the Turbos (VIV V3 TD04 17T's)They've been holding strong for coming up two years of hard driving but not a lot of miles maybe 10,000 at most so far. I had to go cheapest route and after watching enough "Zero to 60" channel and then the older "Swap Depot" videos I was convinced that ebay turbos are now worth the smaller cost. LOL. Oh and and inlets upgraded the low pressure fuel pump as well MHD tuner and XHP trans tuner app and XDelete so I can run the car as a rear wheel drive only. (It's an awesome group of apps). As well I bought the app "Protool" which has totally replaced my INPA and ISTA etc. I got a custom tune and running E40 (out of E85 fuel) and it's SO MUCH FUN!!! However there is no such thing as a finished E90 335i or 135i or Z4 35i or 335IS, IX etc. LOL. But MAN does it RIP!!
@DayOffDIY8 ай бұрын
Holy cow Greg that’s a properly built car! You’ve been through that thing. X delete is awesome too. I need to look into protool, I’m kinda tired of problems with ISTA connecting. Id like to know more about it! If you have some valuable knowledge on protool id love to hear it, you could shoot me an email if you’d like! Really happy to see a 335i! I’m in the uk and I’ve almost finished a complete mechanical front to rear restoration on an e91 335i msport. It brought back a lot of memories of my own work seeing this. You have likely only scratched the surface of this cars issues though I reckon, it seems a bit of an amateur’s project in the past and you’re going to be rectifying ‘repairs’. As a side note I would inspect the con rod bearings, they are not known to spin them as you mentioned, however my car was at 160k miles and the bearings were worn enough to justify replacing along with timing chains, especially the oil pump timing chain unit, if a chain does go then it’s the oil pump chain unit that will. Love the fact you are an OEM bmw guy, I’m exactly the same. By the way are the injectors that have been replaced genuine BMW/VDO index 12s? In the uk you’re looking at £400+ per injector! Keep up the good work you’re channel is brilliant and you’re a great bloke 👍🏼
@DayOffDIY8 ай бұрын
I’ll have to look into the injectors when I get home. Yeah I will absolutely cut the filter open and inspect things. I’ll have the oil pan off, maybe we will get into the rod bearings but I’m going to see how she runs first and do a thorough inspection of the filter. N54s can be A LOT of work but I’m up for the challenge. Might even just pull the motor to make life easy! Cheers

@DayOffDIY8 ай бұрын
Mmm… you could stick a boroscope down the spark plug hole and see if you can see any dripping oil from the intake or exhaust valves, do a leak down test to determine top or bottom end, but m54s usually need the heads gone through around 200-250k. I’d just pull the heads, send them out, new head gasket and give it a second chance

The carbon build up is not the back-feed out of the combustion chamber, it is the PCV combined with EGR system. If it was carbon buildup caused by back-feed, then you'd have to experience backfiring. Reason it can't back-feed is because of the pressure produced by turbocharger. Or I am just not educated enough on petrol engines, I don't entirely understand what is going on these petrol engines, only experienced with diesel powered cars.
@DayOffDIY8 ай бұрын
I think if it were PCV related we would see it on the N52, M54, 52 etc… but it’s only on this engine really… I’m not positive though so if someone could educate me I’m all ears! This is my personal conclusion I came to
