I really like the idea of heating up the joints before removing the screws! BRILLIANT! I always just pulled things apart (AND HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY… so far). I’m going to start doing this too! Love the channel and keep up the great work!

Thanks for watching, appreciate it! Yeah heating plastic is useful in many toy restorations - not only for disassembly & assembly, but also for straightening bent parts - at some point, the luck runs out, so best to heat first 👍 Cheers, Dave! 🤘

Brits are the best at repairs. No matter if it’s a wheel on a horse drawn carriage or a Star Wars toy! But don’t let them near anything electronic! You can blame Lucas for that reputation 😅. Much love from stateside 🇺🇸

I love this vehicle. Only ever saw one in the wild once… a kid down the road had one and I remember us playing with it on the pavement outside his house. I can only have been 5 or 6. I have the vintage collection one, but one day hope to pick up one of these. Excited to see this restoration Dave 👍

Always tense stressing old plastic, those tiny passenger compartment tabs. O_O Been on the hunt for good plastic prying tools, saw this one that looked like a giant guitar pick that appeared useful. I think your Robo-Sun is the peak of plastic brightening techniques, yet to see any better method that that. Appreciate the commercial break there, helps put the item into context. ;)
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush Жыл бұрын
Yeah, always tense stressing plastic, but I usually heat before hand. As for prying tools I've got a few from iFixIt.com who specialise in phone repairs. That retrobrite technique came from a channel called RMC, a retro computer video gaming channel where of course they're battling discoloured cases 👍

Love your videos Dave. I've got a ITT and the record player is very temprimental. If you can't fix it, no one can! Love the Robo Sun method, mines discoloured too, might wait til summer and use hydrogen peroxide and sunlight, it was the taking it apart I was scared of and now I know how, thanks to you! 👌🏼
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kev!! 🤘 I've been very impressed by the Robo Sun method and there's no need to rely on the British weather 🤣 I'm hoping to dig right into the record player mechanics, so we'll see if there's a way to make these things less temperamental. If you decide to take apart, just be careful with the tabs holding the base to the body 👍

Thanks Mike! 🤘 I think most of the components of the record player will be the same as Kitt but as of now I'm not sure how those engineers designed a mechanism which assigned a track to each button - been thinking how would I do it, but those engineers back then are smarter than me! So am really looking forward to investigating all that when it's opened up 👍

Great video! I've also coincidentally just done an imperial troop transporter restoration after picking one up at a convention for only £15. Mine had the same issues and even the same colour variation as yours between the Left hand and right hand side doors! I think it could have actually been packed that way at the factory. Now, just need to find the top black radar dish and fix the electronics on my one.
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush Жыл бұрын
Hey bikerscout! Definitely would like to see what you've done on your restoration 👍 I found this one at Echo, was looking for the worst one there 🤣 Yeah, not sure what's going on with the doors but I imagine after 40 years they all get mixed up. It seems the one with the ridge is from the Sears release. Good luck with fixing the electronics - that's what I'll tackle in part 2 🤘

@@VintageToyRush I've got the same thing with mine, I'm missing the right door but my left door has the raised ridge and it's definitely the regular version. Maybe it's a Palitoy thing?
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush Жыл бұрын
As far as I can tell from my research, the ridged doors are from the Sears release. The photo on the Palitoy box shows a red stripe sticker on the door, but this doesn't fit with the ridges.

I think it's interesting that toys Kenner invented in order to increase sales for things that never appeared in the movies are now becoming canon in shows like "The Mandalorian". Something similar happened with R5-D4. Kenner just made up that alpha-numeric designation for the red droid that had no name in the movie. Now the name is canon and being used in the Disney Star Wars TV series.
@VintageToyRush
@VintageToyRush 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I guess back in the day, the merchandising and toys brought in so much money that it was inevitable the two worlds would merge. Can't see that happening with Hasbro and Disney today though!
